Is This A Bad Reason To Learn Martial Arts

I want to learn Martial Arts!?

I am a 14 year old girl and I want to know if it would be a good idea if I try to learn Martial Arts of any kind. Please recommend a type. I am not really healthy though, I am a bit overweight. I really want to learn because just a few days ago, two young girls around my age was beaten and raped. I just want to know how to protect my self! Please help me!

Why do Soldiers learn Martial arts?

I was watching this Military program on soldiers going to warzones like Afghan.

One of the trainings they were doing was a martial arts training e.g boxing, Judo, Knives etc..

Then they picked up their rifles and were charging at these dummies with their bayonets and venting out aggression and grunts and yelling and trying to make themselves angry.

My question is what is the point of Soldiers learning martials arts, knives, boxing etc...? Correct me if i am wrong.

This is 250Bc anymore we dont live in Ancient Greece or something. We are not going to fight these modern enemies with hand to hand combat are we? we are not using swords or spears?

So physical strength or being able to have a one on one scrap doesnt count for nothing does it?

For instance a soldier has a gun. You press the trigger and boom. A dead bad guy. Or call in a helicopter airstrike?

Or bring in artillery guns load the chamber and BOOOOOOM.

So why waste them time learning boxing and Judo and other such childish time wasting tasks? Are they trying to act like Tough guys?

(Give me a break. I bet anyone of them would break water if they came face to face with a Taliban)

So why learn martial arts when they could be sitting down playing backgammon, or reading a nice novel before they go to battle?

Why is karate considered a BAD martial art?

The answer I'm posted is from a question I answered yesterday. It fits both questions:

**************************************...
I don't believe it's the style or the practitioner.

I believe it's the teacher, specifically, his training, knowledge and experience, and whether or not he is willing to pass that on to you.

You can have a great work ethic and achieve great things, but if you're training with one of the many "teachers" who lack knowledge and believe that they have "tradition", then you're only going to learn the movement of the art and not how these movements actually work. Many mean well. They believe what they have is the full version of the real thing. But sadly, they don't.

The Asians are solely responsible for this. They are the ones who held back on the knowledge and now the arts are regressing and regarded by some, aka - the misinformed, as "obsolete" and "useless".

This is why some Asians decided in the recent decades to pass on REAL knowledge to certain chosen students.

Master Oyata Seiyu is a prime example of this. The Seniors in Okinawa were angry at him, attacking him physically, for teaching his full art.

If he had not done so, the art would have had an even WORST reputation in the west. They should be grateful to him.

His senior students are very knowledgeable and have great skill. Was it because they were naturally good? I do not agree.

What if they had trained with that fake "grandmaster" Sin Kwang The' ???

What does natural ability do for you when you are learning BS?
**************************************...

Regarding "pros and cons", if you use the above as a guide, you will see that their are no cons, just lack of knowledge. That is the "con" that everyone should post.

I would say that karate has many more techniques than Muay Thai. That's a pro for properly taught karate.

Can I get into some form of martial arts if I have a bad lower back?

I just got rejected from the US Army after waiting for 5 months to hear from them for a possible waiver for the herniated disc in my lower back. Either Marine Corps or Army military service has been a dream of mine since 7th grade and now I can never do it and I'm 28. I didn't do it out of high school for very good reasons. Honor, discipline, respect for others and oneself, and a strong mentality. These were the reasons I wanted to get into the military. I used to be in karate, but that was when I was like 10 years old before my back got screwed up.

I know there are ton of different martial arts out there. Is there one that would be key for me with my back. I noticed that some martial arts forms require some weight lifting. Not a problem, as long as squats and deadlifts, basically anything that targets the lower back, is not included.

Any ideas if you know about martial arts?

Are Jehovah's Witnesses allowed to learn martial arts if the person only has good motives to do so?

Like only using it as a very last resort if there is no other way to diffuse the situation, and even then only go as far as needed.
Also maybe to exercise.

I know Jehovah's Witnesses are allowed to defend themselves if necessary, so I was wondering if they are allowed to learn techniques to do so.

There is this self-defense art that caught my attention, which is effective, but also teaches people to stay as calm as possible. So according to some people that talked about this art, it should even help people to stay calm even if you were to get in a fight, meaning you wouldn't get caught in the moment and do more than necessary.

I'm not an aggressive person at all and if possible, I would avoid trouble and fights.
I wouldn't mind learning a self-defense art though, seeing it can help if the situation arises and it's also a form of physical exercise.

Please provide biblical scripture in your answer if possible.
Also, please let me know in your answer whether you're a Jehovah's Witness or not.

Thanks everyone.
