Is This A Fever - If Not What Could It Be

Can fever cause death?

To answer your question succinctly, fever by itself can never be the lone cause of death to any human being. Fever is a manifestation of some type of pathological process occurring in one’s body. Fever is defined by an elevated internal body temperature greater that 37.8 degree Celsius elicited from the mouth or greater than 38.2 which is elicited by the anus. To have a better understanding of how one develops a high internal body temperature, one must understand the basic pathophysiological process that causes it.Normally, the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center maintains the internal temperature between 37° and 38° C. Fever results when something raises the hypothalamic set point, causing the blood vessels to narrow which causes a shunting of blood from the periphery to decrease heat loss. And that will tell the body to shiver, which increases heat production. These processes continue until the temperature of the blood bathing the hypothalamus reaches the new set point. Resetting the hypothalamic set point downward (ie, with antipyretic meds) initiates heat loss through sweating and reflexive vasodilation. The most common cause by far is due to an infection of some sort, the second most common cause is any condition that can lead to an inflammatory processes and the third most common cause is any condition associated with tumors. All of these can lad to death if left untreated but with today’s advancement in medical technology and education, it rarely occurs.I hope that I did not get too technical with my answer. Sometimes, I can get a little carried away, but then again, that’s my evolving process. I hope that I’ve answered your question. God bless and take great care

What could happen if you get a fever if 100.5?

thats not too much to worry about. When you get to 103 or 104, for extended periods, it can cause some problems. 100.5 is not that far out of normal, you can get to that on a warm day. certainly, tho, you should keep an eye on it. drink lots of fluids, and dont move around a lot.

My daughter has a 100.9 fever. What to do?

If you really can't take her to the doctor now. Check her throat and see if it is irritated. Give her ibuprofen or children's aspirin which should help with the fever. Put a cool damp clothe on her forehead and wipe her arms/legs,torso down to cool her down. And give her lots of water and something like Gatorade. Usually popsicle helps a lot for the fever and throat also. DO NOT let her fever get any higher than 102; if her fever keeps rising and gets above 102 then you need to get her to the doctor. Just get prepared for that like extra set of clothes should she vomit, blanket, trash can, wipes, etc. And keep track and type of meds you give her & write down the time. Do not mix aspirin with medicine that already has pain relief medicine such as Tylenol Plus.
We just got over my nephews and niece's cold. I helped my brother and his wife out and it has been 4 days of fevers and meds and less sleep time. Good Luck and don't forget to take care of yourself too.

Can i take a shower if i have fever?

Taking a shower is fine. It's actually good for you, as the hot water turns to a bit of steam, which loosens up phlegm in the lungs.

The warm water also heats up the body, killing the virus that is making you sick. If you have a fever, you are likely warm, and sweating. Sweating is the body's natural way to cool off and eliminate toxins from your body. Taking a shower wipes off the sweat which includes dead virus.

So you should certainly take a warm to hot shower. You should also keep as warm as possible when out of the shower to assist your body in fighting off the infection. Lastly, you should never touch your nose, eyes, or mouth after sneezing or blowing your nose because you reinfect yourself when you do. If you have to do so, use hand sanitizer or wash your hands first.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better.

Why do I never run a fever when I'm sick?

There are a couple of things which come to mind when you talk about not having a fever.

(1) Elderly people can be very sick and yet not run a fever. They can have a serious case of pneumonia, influenza or urinary tract infection without a noticeable change in body temp.

(2) People who have weakened immune systems can be very sick without any noticeable change in body temp. Some of these people, ones who have a primary immune deficiency, often have a lower than "normal" body temp. So when they get a fever, it can register as only slightly above normal.

Perhaps you fall in one of those categories, perhaps not. Has your doctor ever had a blood count done when you are sick? If it fails to show evidence of a bacterial or viral infection (elevated white cells, higher than normal neutrophils or higher than normal lymphocytes), there could some sort of dysfunction in your white cells.

Of course, this is all conjecture. What's going on with you may take some testing.

Do you only have a fever if you are contagious?

no you can have a fever with almost every kind of infection and you are not always contagious ex. a kidney infection you will fever but it is so not contagious your co-worker has no clue what she is talking about

Is 99.8 considered a fever?

Depending on what time of the day you took your temperature could tell you if it's a fever or not. I would consider it a fever if it was taken early in the morning. Because by the time evening comes, you would probably be up to 101 degrees.

Chills come when your fever is going up.

Also, don't take tylenol or aspirin for a low grade fever. Only try to lower your temperature if it gets to 104.
