Is This A Good Enough Reason To Go To The Gp

Can i just go to a hospital and ask for a bloodtest/ultrasound?

The past few months I have been having slight low back pain, and Ive missed 3 periods (not pregnant though) along with some abnormal vaginal discharge. Sexual intercourse hurts and it just doesn't feel the same. Every time I go to OBGYN they just do a pap smear and say I have a little bacteria and send me on my way. But I've had enough and want make sure I don't have a hormone problem, or cysts on ovaries so I want an ultrasound of my ovaries and a blood test... can I just walk into a hospital and demand it? Or should I make an appointment? I feel hopeless.... help :/

Are these good enough reasons to get my tonsils removed?

i am 14, female. i suffer from tonsil stones and i have had them for about 1 1/2 years. they are just gunks of white stuff and they smell of death.

this is just some background info-- so when i first realized that i had tonsil stones i had felt like something was stuck in my throat. so at first i thought it was just food and i coughed it out. a few weeks later it came back so i went to see my GP and the first thing he said was 'this is a sign for tonsil removal' he gave me some antibiotics which actually kept the tonsil stones gone for about 3/4 months but then it came back so i went to see my GP again(this was about a month ago.) and he made me an appointment with ENT doctor (NHS) on the 27th December and with that he also gave me some more antibiotics but this time it did nothing what so ever they came back almost instantly.

so moreover my reasons to get them removed is because my breath smells horrible and its making me feel self conscious, every time i get them i can feel something stuck in my throat and i get a sore throat.

ive done some research and ive heard that you need to have had tonsillitis at least 6 times- i have only ever had tonsillitis once when i was about 10. also my entire tonsils are NOT filled with stones i only have 1 big one in my right tonsil with loads of nooks and crannys and they occur once every half/one month. when i leave the ENT appointment i was to leave with a date of surgery and not antibiotics that dont work etc.

some people also say that no/very rarely GPs will refer you to ENT but mine has from the moment he saw my tonsils he said about removal? i'm sorry i wrote so much but i'm quite worried so thank you.

What is your reason for becoming a doctor?

If you ask aspiring doctors(medical students and residents) why they choose this profession, most would give reasons such as -I want to help humanity. Being doctor is a noble calling. One of my family member or myself is suffering from a grave disease and being the empathetic person I am, I choose to join this field. My father/mother is a doctor. Hence I am destined to be one too.I love the subject of medicine, I am in total awe of it.I don't like math, hence I choose medicine.I could have done anything, I am very talented. I choose medicine because I think I am the best fit for it.Having been in medical field for the last 7 years, these are the many things I heard people say. And there were few of them who secretly admitted to the lucrativeness of the profession as their reason.I joined medicine for reason 4, but now after finishing my internship in a government hospital, I can say without doubt that the most important reason for me to continue with this profession is ‘helping people’. This may look pretentious to people outside our field but I believe most people who have worked in government hospitals would know what I am talking about. The satisfaction and the happiness we get from helping a sick, poor patient is beyond words. I request you to pay a visit to your nearby government hospital and see the passion and the dedication with which most interns and residents work.Sincerely,Dr Rahul

How do you know if you are good enough to be a doctor?

Are you smart enough to be a doctor? Take a quick minute to think about that question. Got your answer? Now answer this question, what criteria did you use to define smart enough? Did you think about a medical doctor and attempt to compare your intelligence to his or hers? If you did, I bet you thought of someone you think is really smart. How about trying this, think of the least intelligent physician you know. Are you as smart as that person? If the answer is no, then it is likely you just don’t know enough doctors. As a matter of fact, I bet many of you reading this are smarter than me. The point is, there’s a lot more to being a doctor than intelligence.Students (and medical school admission committees) often fail to realize that you do not have to be as smart as the guy to your right or the girl on your left to be a doctor, you just have to be smart enough. You need to be smart enough to take in and process information; smart enough to ask the right questions, and smart enough to pull on available resources. Once you reach that threshold of intellect, being a good doctor is completely dependent on other personal characteristics such as discipline and passion. So, instead of asking yourself if you are smart enough to get into medical school and become a doctor, ask yourself if you are passionate enough to dedicate your life to this; to dedicate your life to that of others. If the answer to that question is “no”, then this isn’t the field for you. If the answer is “yes”, then the next question is “Are you disciplined enough to be a doctor?”That indeed is the real question! Are you disciplined enough to be a doctor? You don’t have to be a genius to practice medicine in this day and age (afterall, it’s probably more important that you know how to find the answer to a question than having that answer stored in the back of your brain), but you do have to be disciplined.. You’ve got to be disciplined to get up every morning to make it to class on time, Disciplined enough to study every evening and stick with it until you know the subject matter cold, and Disciplined enough to go to sleep at a reasonable hour so you can get up and do it all again the following day. ALL doctors are disciplined!

Questions about mental illnesses---bipolor and depression?

i think i have bipolor disorder or depression.
but i heard someone that if you think someone thinks that have it it means they dont because bipolor people are unable to reconize it.
i wanted to know if that was true.

also i have a personal question: i often feel sad (most of the time i dont want to be with my friends) but when i do end up hanging out with them i forget im sad but as soon as im home again it starts over.

does that mean im imagining it?
does it mean that im just over-looking my this and i only think im depressed but really im not.

is paranoia connected to depression/bipolor disorder?
and last question
if paranoia happens only about onces a day but last about a half of a hour, is it paranoia or just being scared?

Size of penis has gone down?

OK its all very well taking the p*ss guys but there is actually a disease which can cause this unfortunately for the moment I cannot think of its name it is very very rare but it can happen sorry I cannot be of more help will ask my brother's who are doctors when they get home and get back to you asap but my best advise is to go and see your doctor if this is genuine

Jill X

PS cannot find medical name at the moment but this condition is linked with type 2 diabetes I think a trip to the docs may be a good idea

if your 16 you do not have to discuss this with your parents you are old enough to go see your GP on your own he/she is bound to confidentiality
or just explain to your parents that you need to see the doc on a personal matter but its not sexual to put their minds at rest

good luck kid Jill X

PS be brave your on your way to becoming a man well this is one of your first independent steps so go ;-) XX

Pregnant but still have a Period? Ectopic Pregnancy?

I need help please! I had unproctected sex on March 9th & 20th, used "withdrawal" method both times. Took 2 Home Pregnancy tests around late April, BOTH came out NEGATIVE. I've still been having my normal menstrual cycles. My concern's are, for the past 2 weeks, Ive been feeling flutters all over the place in my stomach, mainly my lower abdomen. I have no pregnancy symptoms(the ones i've read about) what so ever, Although I have one child, and had no pregnancy symtoms with that either ... Could I be pregnant and still have a normal menstrual cycle? Could it be Ectopic, and just be the few pregnancies that show up "negative" on the home tests? Should I go see a doctor? I dont have Medical Insurance so I want to be sure that its a good enough reason to go .... or not.

I'm wondering if could deal with all of the stress I have going on in my life right now? I'm also really paranoid about the whole situation ....

Please, any information would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Avoiding Work: What is the easiest illness to fake in front of a doctor so you can get him to write you a note so that you won't have to go to work for the next couple of days?

I’ve had several staff & co-workers fake illnesses before. Back Pain, migraine and PMS are the easiest to fake, but if you are planning to be a liar, just remember that the consequences of your deceit can follow you for years after you’ve enjoyed your ill-gotten days off.Back Pain: Two of my staff were so blatant about it that they even went to see the doctor together and took sick days together. They were in their late forties and always complained of chronic back pain. We knew it was fake. These two ladies worked on shift and at first, they always had back pain when they were rostered to do front desk duties. Then we instituted a policy that if someone covered a colleague’s front desk duty, they had to be “paid back”. The two fakers promptly only fell ill when they were not on front desk duty. They were culled in a retrenchment exercise.Feeling Under The Weather: One of my bosses was sympathetic to those who worked in high-stress teams. So when a staff wasn’t feeling good and wanted to stay home to rest, she didn’t mind. A few hours later, the boss comes to the office in a fury. She had gone to the shops during her lunch hour and ran into Mr Not-Feeling-Well who was happily shopping with his family. The Useful Parents: An ex-coworker had run out of excuses of his own - fever, mysterious aches and pains, hangover, lost wallet, lost passport, lost memory (he forgot when his vacation ended). So he started using his parents: elderly father not feeling well, mentally ill mother throwing a tantrum. We knew it was all faked because all the days that he missed work were the days when his project deadlines were due.
