Is This A Healthy Way To Lose Weight

A healthy way to lose weight?

First, let me say when I weigh 180 I look like I weigh about 160, and when I weigh 162 I look like I weigh around 140 or so.

I am a month away from being 15 and about to enter high school. I have always been over weight, when I was little I was severely obese, but I started losing weight and I got my weight to about 180.

I started doing volleyball (I didn't have P.E) and kind of watching what I ate (not much because I know I'm still growing and I need food) and I got my weight down to about 162. Then my life started getting really hectic, volleyball ended, I spent some time in the hospital, and a bunch of things with my family and I went back to about 183.

I am not very happy with my body right now and I want to get back to around 160 or so before the school year starts. I was thinking I could go back to doing my volleyball exercises everyday and go back to watching what I'm eating might help, but that would be kind of hard since I don't have a gym I could go to, and another thing is I have very, very hungry lately and I don't know why (yes, I know i'm not pregnant). I was wondering if there was any way I could get back to 160 or so before the school year starts? I don't want to go on some sort of crash diet or anything, just a healthy way of losing weight and keeping it off. Any suggestions? They will be greatly appreciated. ^_^ Thanks!

Is it healthy to lose weight without eating?

Well you have to consider what kind of “weight” it is you would be losing. What you want to lose is fat. What you don’t want to lose is muscle. Muscle burns energy. Fat just begets more fat.Brad Pilon, who wrote a pretty good book on fasting called Eat Stop Eat, says that as long as you don’t fast longer than 72 hours, you won’t lose any muscle. Past that, you do.Do enough NOT eating and you will throw all kinds of things out of wack. When your brain senses that things are out of wack, it goes into full scale protection mode.So you can lose weight by fasting, but you should have a once a week eat what you want day to reset your hormones and reassure your brain you aren’t starving.Make sure you drink plenty of water through all of this.I’ve fasted for 3 days about half a dozen times. I don’t do it any more because when I have fasted for three days, get me near food and I am hungry. But eat a big meal and you will often pay for it with gastro intestinal issues. So now I stick to 36 hour fasts or fast for 18 hours then eat in the remaining 6 hours. Our bodies aren’t computers or machines. Rather our body/brains will choose to fight back against any and all threats. So fasting? Sure. Sensibly? You bet.

Best way to lose weight?

If you want to lose weight, you need to two things: eat less and exercise more. Weight gain happens when you create a calorie surplus (eat more than you burn). Your body takes the excess calories and converts them to fat which get stored around your stomach, arms and thighs. The longer you remain in a calorie surplus, the more weight you'll gain. To lose that weight, you need to do the opposite. You need to create a calorie deficit (start eating less than you burn).

Your first step is to figure out how many calories you burn on a daily basis. This calculator will help you out http://calorieneedscalculator.com The number you get from this tool is what your body burns on a daily basis. To lose weight, simply eat less. It sounds a lot easier than it is but making small changes helps you adjust to a new lifestyle. Don't think of this as a diet, think of it as a new life. Instead of eating foods high in sugars, white flour and saturated fat, go with fruits, vegetables, whole wheats, fish, lean meats, nuts and beans. In addition to eating less, you also need to exercise more. Start off at 1-2 times per week and work your way up to 3-5 times per week.

Don't make all of these changes at once or you won't be able to properly adjust to them. Generally, eating healthier foods will decrease your calorie intake. Compare a doughnut to an apple and you'll see that healthy foods are lower in calories. You can find some more information at the Beginner's Guide to Dieting - http://straightdiet.com
