How come most somali people have soft hair?
It's just part of our genetic makeup, which comes from our Bantu-Arab mixing lineage. But mind you, this is something that varies from Somali to Somali. Somalis are part of the Afro-Asiatic sub-grouping, meaning historically, we have strong Arab-Islamic (Asian) influence, and this resulted in the mixing of the 2. Let me remind you that Afro-Asiatic peoples are not only in the East African region. The Hausa of Nigeria are Afro-Asiatic as well. Please recognize that some of the pics posted are Somali girls with STRAIGHTENED hair! That mean they have blow dried it, flat ironed it or straightened it with a straighter. Somalis, like all Africans, come in different shades and shapes. Please do not generalize. I know many non-Somalis that have soft hair and many Somalis that have tighter, kinkier curls. Nothing is wrong with either, but never believe when a Somali tells you that they are not Black or African. It's all BS.
Do you live alone? How does it feel?
Lived alone for 10 years in an apartment, in a quiet corner of a big city. How does it feel? It is the norm of life for me.The home is quiet, which is great because I am hyperacustic. More quiet is always better. Nobody is watching the TV unless the person is me.I can do cooking experiments with abandon! When you need to cook for someone, you need to ensure your food is edible. I can cook in any manner I like, since I am the one eating up all the failed experiments. How to cook for one person, some may ask? I usually cook once but for lunch and dinner ( I eat the same thing for both meals). Can’t finish up the cake I just baked? Not a problem, I can always give some to my neighbours and make them happy. Usually I give away some, and freeze some.I can read and think without anybody interrupting me.What to do when I are sick? Yes, that IS tricky. Best to have some food at home that don’t need much preparation. Or sometimes I just call for delivery. There was once I lived alone in Singapore, I was too unwell to get up to cook for myself, leave home to buy food ( it was just mere 50 meters away, but I simply couldn’t), had no ready-to-eat- food at home because I just moved to the country and did not know how to phone order food, I didn’t eat anything solid for 1 day and a half until I was well enough to walk 50m to buy some. Very sad indeed, but I lost some weight as a result. How to get to the hospital if needed? Call a cab, if you live in a city that is not much of a problem.Some people fantasize about walking around in their underwear at home. I don’t know about that, since I still have neighbours with windows that can accidentally look into my windows. I think living in your underwear is overrated. I could do that but I never did. But I do like to live in flimsy T shirts with no underwear.Is it lonely? Sometimes. But I am introvert, so it is mostly heaven! My home is the best place on earth. Sometimes when I am on leave for a stretch of 5–7days, I actually spend it at home and don’t go anywhere. However I do enjoy it when my sister stays over, even though she will be blasting the TV watching Netflix at full volume. Sisterly love can overcome a hyperacustic introvert’s hermit like tendency.Sometimes, I go out to my wet kitchen/ herb garden and spend time with my plants. Am 23 turning 24 next month and am still living at home with parents to save money while attending school.
