How many hours should a 21 year old sleep in order to be super-productive?

To answer your question first, its 6 Hours Minimum. The amount of sleep required decreases with age and stays flat after your mid 20s. Out of my own experience i am telling you. I am 29 years old. Till last year i used to sleep between 8 to 10 hrs and believe me i was not productive. Since last year i have been sleeping for just 6 hours but i make that 6 hours count. I learned about rem cycles and bunch of other stuffs about sleep so that the moment i hit the bed i am in deep sleep. I dont dream much even if i do i dont remember them wen i wake up. By this way I gained 2 hrs in my routine. I utilized that 2 hrs well with studies and workout and quora etc etc. That is being productive for you.Next to be super productive you need to learn to art of "POWER NAPS". These can be upto as small as 5 mins. I always do 20 mins power nap. Again I did some tricks on how to perfect it. I tried various techniques before I could perfect it. Try to get minimum of 1 or 2 power naps in the mid of the day. I do it in the noon session and after work.Nowhere in my day I give room for the st*pi*  snooze button. That is a definite no no.

If I sleep 4 - 5 hours per workday but I sleep as long as I want in the weekend, will I still have long term side effects?

Absolutely. It almost killed me. Seriously.(By the way, I’ve never answered questions in a health section, as I usually talk about investing here. But, this topic effected me so much that I had to chime in.)Let me elaborate…I used to work as a firefighter for a very busy city. I worked 24 hour shifts that were often scheduled in consecutive days. Many times I worked up to 7 days straight - no time off. Always working. Now, there are beds in fire stations, but in busy stations they are rarely used.A lot of guys will just sleep in big “TV chairs” with their clothes on because emergency calls go all night long. So… anyway… after you’ve worked 7 days straight, with maybe a couple of hours rest each day, your body starts to deteriorate. On the outside this is very visible. I went from looking like a regular guy in his mid-twenties to some dude that most people thought was in his mid-forties. I had dark bags under my eyes, bad skin, dull senses, and a very stoic attitude. My hunger for sugary foods was insatiable, as I was constantly looking for a new ‘high’ to keep myself awake. My back hurt from stress, my head hurt from lack of sleep, and my joints were stiff from lack of rest.Even though I can’t see my insides, I can only assume that it’s worse. Heart disease, blood pressure, blood sugar, and numerous other health indicators are negatively affected by lack of sleep. But the worst part is your mental status. You start to think irrationally. Your body literally goes into survival mode and your surroundings begin to get sacrificed. Your relationships, daily routines, and excitement for life are completely smashed. And here is probably the most important fact: you cannot ‘catch-up’ on sleep. Trust me. I’ve tried it.On my days off I would try to sleep or nap, but I could never get a rhythm going. I’d either sit in bed tossing and turning or be thinking about all the things that other people were doing because it was day time.I can tell you that if you do not sleep enough, you will never be able to compensate later on. Furthermore, aspects of your life will begin to deteriorate in ways that you never thought imaginable.

How often do your newborn wake up for feeding at night?

most newborns wake up every 2 hours

Why is 10 pm to 4 am considered as the best time to sleep?

Your internal 24-hour sleep-wake cycle, otherwise known as biological clock or circadian rhythm, is regulated by processes in the brain that respond to how long you've been awake and the changes between light and dark. At night, your body responds to the loss of daylight by producing melatonin, a hormone that makes us sleepy. During the day, sunlight triggers the brain to inhibit melatonin production so you feel awake and alert. Therefore, you must have experienced it yourself that when you delay your sleep by 2 or 3 hours and go to bed after 1 am or 2 am. You get up 8 or 9' o clock in the morning you don't feel fresh and active like others who went to bed by 10 pm and got up at 5 or 6'o clock in the morning. This is simply because you do not tend to get sound sleep during the morning time as atmospheric noise begins to enter your ear and disrupt your sleep.During the night, your sleep follows a predictable pattern, moving back and forth between deep restorative sleep (deep sleep) and more alert stages (non-REM) and dreaming (REM sleep). Together, the stages of REM and non-REM sleep form a complete sleep cycle. Each cycle typically lasts about 90 minutes and repeats four to six times over the course of a night. This is why if you are sensitive to waking up in the middle of the night, it is probably in the early morning hours, not immediately after going to bed.
