How to clean silver ring turning black?

Alright, if the ring is real silver then the black stuff that youre seeing is called tarnish and its relativly easy to clean, you can to one of two things without having to go shopping-
1. brush the ring thuroughly with toothpaste, lather it up till its all foamy and keep scrubbing- there's a chemical in toothpaste that cleans silver tarnish
2. get a pot of water mixed with some baking soda, put it over the stove and then put your ring in with a large piece of tin foil lining the pot, make sure the ring is touching the foil in at least a few places

Nose ring is turing black?

I've had my nose pierced for a couple years, and the other day I went and bought some new rings. I put in one of the new rings and I noticed a couple days later that the part of the ring that goes inside of my piercing is turning black. It's only the part that goes inside of my nose piercing. The rest of the ring is still the same color. Why is the metal changing to a black color?

How do you get a mood ring to turn black?

The best & fastest way that I know of to turn a "Mood Ring" black is stick it in the refrigerator or freezer. It will more than likely be damaged if this is done too often &/or for too long though. They do advise to avoid placing any kind of "Mood Jewelry" in water or in any kind of temperature extremes.

Why is my Gold Wedding ring turning black on the band ?

Do you wash it often? Or do you work in a job with chemicals that can damage it? I am not sure it is real gold. Take it back, complain and get it checked out!!!

Why is my ringfinger turning black while wearing my gold rings?

Skin blackening from jewelry is most often due to nickel allergies, electrolysis or metal abrasion. Nickel allergies are the primary cause. Nickel is often used to strengthen other precious metals like gold, because 24k gold is soft. The body's electrical currents or skin acidity can cause metal corrosion. This is especially true with metals that contain copper or nickel. A green ring around your finger indicates your jewelry contains copper. If the ring is gold plated the brass core can become exposed and leave a dark residue on the skin.Metallic abrasion occurs when jewelry is worn with makeup. Some compounds in cosmetics contain tiny abrasive particles that look like black dust. These particles form dark smudge upon contact with something absorbent like skin. The bottom line is that discoloration of the fingers is not necessarily an indication that your jewelry is fake or of poor quality.

When your finger turns black from a ring does it mean it’s fake?

Not exactly “ fake”; but it means your finger or skin is “ REACTING” to the metal, or put another way, that the metal is oxidizing from being in contact with your skin. Therefore it is not made of gold or platinum, nor is it plated with one of the platinum family of metals. Some “ silver” rings will leave a discoloration on your skin, although many jewelry manufacturers now plate silver with a metal from the platinum group of metals to discourage tarnishing. Pure silver will tend to turn black in time , if NOT worn. I wear silver all of the time ( different bracelets from all over the place), and NONE of them discolor my skin, and once they loose their “ just polished” shine, they just stay a warm, “ worn silver” patina. I like that look, as do most silver wearers. So IF you always get dark color on your finger, it could be brass or copper, pewter or what some people call “ pot metal”. Of course, if it is pretty, or has artistic work, or contains a real stone of some sort, it could still have VALUE, it’s just not gold or platinum. If you LIKE IT, it DEFINITLY Not “ fake”.

Why is my ring from Tiffany & Co. turning black around the edges?

ok so i bought this like 4 weeks ago and i wore it the whole day. But the next day the edge of the bottom and top of the ring became completely black. So my mom and I went back to the store and asked about it. They said that its because of sweat, but I seriously don't think so. We left it in their care for cleaning anyways. After we got it back, it was super shiny and clean. The next day the same thing happened again. So i tried cleaning it with the green jewelry cleaner. It only got shiny but it didn't help with the black stuff.

Is Tiffany and Co. selling fakes, is it really because of my sweat, or is it something else?

I'm kind of clueless here.

My Aggien ring turns my finger black but my wedding ring does not?

For some reason when I get oily things on my hands my Aggie ring turns my finger black, but my wedding ring does not. My aggie ring is a 10 karat antiqued ring. You can see pictures here: http://aggietraditions.tamu.edu/aggiering.shtml. My wedding ring is a plain 14K gold band.

I first noticed this when I got hydraulic fluid on my hands one day, buthtought nothing of it because it was somewhat dirty. I did make some hamburgers the other day though and the fat in the meat made my finger turn black.

I will not quit wearing my aggie ring that is not an option. I would rather live with a black finger. Does anyone have an explanation or a fix for the problem. Thanks for the help.

Why does my skin turn black when i rub a gold ring on it?

It's a chemical reaction between the metal and your skin.
