Is This Too Much Food For A Sedentary Person

Can you be sedentary and still lose weight?

i don't want to sound extremely lazy i just got curious because i am one of those typical girls who wants to lose weight so i control my food intake and lightly exercise but my dad doesnt and he still lost weight. he eats like all the time he even says its like he has a beggar in his stomach. but he lose some weight. he cant do any exercise (or you know what i mean) like he is one of those people who works all day sitting in his office in front of the computer for chip engineering. and only does golf during the weekend as his exercise.
he told me that its because he uses his brain all day and that burns a lot of calories and that he wants me to eat more because im in college and when i go into college after the winter holiday im going to have to use my brain a lot and not all calories are burned just by bmr and exercise. Is this TRUE? can someone explain to me more about this or give me some sort of link with more information? cuz then i think i would need to increase my food intake a little more because i eat 400-500 calories a day. thanks so much. and happy new year. Is a 1,500 calorie diet too low for a very sedentary male?

If you are 6′8″ and 22 stones possibly. If you are 5′2″ and 8 stone maybe not so much. Supposedly an ‘average’ male uses 2500 calories a day through routine bodily function and general movement. A large male uses more and a small male uses less.Sedentary males come in different formats!.I’m 6′3 and my weight creeps up to about 17 stones when I dont watch it. I usually drop to about 1500 calories when I need to bring it back down a couple of stones and, at 1500ish, I’ll lose a stone in about 4–6 weeks.

Is it OK to consume 1000 calories a day if I'm sedentary?

First, start with your goal. Is it to maintain current weight while not being active (working on a project, injured and told not to move)? Or, are you trying to lose weight while not having to do much exercise? Then, how tall are you, what is your current weight, what are your waist and belly measurements and how many calories will be enough to just maintain your current weight? Too many key pieces of info need to be compiled and reviewed before a health professional can answer this question. There are algorithms that will tell you your Basal Metabolic Rate (calories required to stay alive with no activity), vs Active Metabolic Rate and Very Active (athlete) Metabolic Rate. All need to be taken into consideration before you even think about a very low-calorie diet.If you are truly sedentary (literally sitting or lying down almost all the day), then you can do movement even while in a chair or bed. It is very important to your health to keep moving, no matter how limited that movement may be. I would be happy to help you determine what will be the healthiest approach. Is 1200 calories enough for a female who is completely sedentary?

No, 1200 is not enough. Your Basal Metabolic Rate would be about double that. This suggests eating about 500 calories less what you would need to eat to maintain your weight, in order to lose weight: How Many Calories Do You Really Need? On that chart it's 1800 calories but that doesn't take into account your current height/weight. Here's an estimator. For 5'8", 245 lbs, and 25 years old (which has about the same BMI as 36.8) it's 2300 calories a day. Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator So if you subtracted 500, you'd get 1800 calories. I'm not sure this is optimal but I think it would be much easier than 1200 but still would be reasonably effective. Finally have you considered doing exercises that don't put strain on your ankles? Best of luck to you.

Why do athletes eat so much food?

Athletes require more calories due to several factors. One key factor is that due to the caloric expenditure of their sport, they need to replace the nutrients to recover. They also require enough food to be able to perform the sport with optimal effort so they don’t tire out too quickly. Some athletes are trying to “bulk up” or put on muscle and/or weight, so they may be eating more calories for this reason. When a body has a lot of muscle on it, it burns more calories even while at rest, so many athletes eat more protein so that they prevent any muscle wasting. These are several reasons that athletes eat more than sedentary people.
