I'm 17 and i have just started using tampons. I have had my period for 5 years now but up until today, i have always used pads. I know all the rules about them and TSS and all that stuff. But when i pulled out the tampon after about 3-4 hours, the tampon looked like it split open revealing the string inside. Is that supposed to happen? They are tampax. What is buttermilk supposed to look like?
Shake it and it will be okay. My 76 year old mother says that buttermilk is "clabbered" milk, so it really never goes bad. The yellow specks are supposed to be there. She tells me you can use it a long time after the expiration date, if you shake it first. I have seen her do that with her biscuits a number of times and they taste great and no one has ever gotten sick. If you don't feel comfortable with that... put 2 tsp. of lemon juice in regular milk then stir it, that is a substitute for buttermilk. The lemon juice clabbers the milk.
It may be hard to believe but life does get better. Keep writing, keep frying. When I was younger I bounced from factory to factory and was NEVER happy. I didn't feel challenged, I didn't feel like I had a purpose. I tried the military and while it did challenge we initially, once training was completed it was just another "job". I came home to another factory job. I still was not happy. When I was about 27 I decided I was going to go back to college one way or another. A course here, a course there. (AND this was before the internet and ONLINE classes so it was MUCH harder). I worked and went to college and finally in 1993 I became a nurse. I still bounced around from job to job (in the nursing field) but at least now I was doing it with a decent wage. My wife and I had children, moved about 550 miles away from the little town we were raised in. THEN we raised our children, now having grandchildren, had ups and downs and AS TIME went on, things did get easier and the future did get brighter. I guess as I'm writing this I realize it was the JOURNEY that was wonderful, even with the struggles at times. Just remember one thing. NOTHING stays the same forever. Good times, bad times, and all the times in between are only temporary so enjoy the good times. KEEP WRITING, and don't let the bad times get you down because they are temporary as well. I used to wear them when i was younger so i suppose my answer may help. If you should remove during full on menstruation they will expand and becquite heavy with blood, clots , etc. With moisture they expand so it depends on how much moisture there is. Some tampons expand alot and sometimes just a little. Most important take them out and dont leave them in for long periods of time whether they expand or not. And dont wear while sleeping if at all possible. I hope this question helps.

I don't know if a hymen is typically considered white-ish, but it's probably going to be a little lighter in color than the surrounding skin. Also, as we're all different, unless you're having pain or some sort of problem, I wouldn't be concerned. You say that it surrounds the opening - but is there still an actual opening visible for blood to flow through? There are different types of hymens. If their is no opening or it's too small for blood to flow through, your doctor can do a minor surgery to correct this. Otherwise, the different types of hymens shouldn't make a difference.
