Difference between District Attorney and Prosecutor?
Not stupid, lots of people, even those in law enforcement who work with these people, get confused. The DA is the prosecutor for the county. In some states they are called States Attorneys. Sometimes small counties will share a DA/SA. Most criminal prosecution work is done at the county level Usually the Attorney General (AG) is the prosecutor for the state. All are elected positions, all can claim to be the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the county or state. In most larger counties the actual work is done by assistant or deputy DA's (ADA) or assistant states attorneys (ASA). With the real DA/SA only taking cases that will help get him reelected. Just to add some more the Federal top boss is called the Attorney General and is appointed by the president with advice & consent of the senate. Each Federal judicial district has an appointed US Attorney and the real work is done by the Assistant US Attorney (AUSA). Street working law enforcement folks usually refer to the prosecutors by ADA, ASA or AUSA.
What do Indians on Quora feel about the recent arrest (and the alleged strip-search & cavity-search) of the Indian diplomat in the US?
I think if you look at the overall picture, there are a few interesting characters and questions :1) Preet Bharara : Attorney who is involved in pressing for the arrest is considered as a man of integrity who has little respect for riches and reputation. In short, he is like a mini Lokpal. He was involved in the case against Rajat Gupta, former chief of McKinsey too.2) India vs China vs Russia : There are a lot of people who are saying they wont do something like this to Russia and China. Well, a few days ago, Preet Bharara charged 49 Russian diplomats in a medicaid scam too.3) Racism : Preet is also an Indian and if it helps also an OBC - So finding ulterior motives Racism, Casteism etc are excuses to divert the issue.4) Law : As per law, VISA fraud has been committed. As per rules, the salary paid is different from what was mentioned in the VISA papers. This may seem like a technical issue for Indians but if Indian Government is not paying its diplomats enough to be able to pay as per US mandated law, it is a problem and not really a great excuse for stating this as a technicality. 5) US Action : It is fair to assume that US Action has been over the top and probably unwarranted. 6) Maid Story : Lets also remember the maid is also an Indian citizen. The Indian diplomatic community is trying to make her the villain here. There is also an arrest warrant against her and her husband and family members have been arrested. The question is : What is her crime exactly ? Whistleblowing ? 7) 6 Months : This has been going on for 5-6 months. The maid disappeared six months ago and Indian government had lot of time to correct this - getting the diplomat back to India etc - afterall there were some illegalities involved.8) Last but not the least - The family owns a flat in Adarsh Society. Not sure about its legality but wasnt it meant to be for Kargil widows.The US has probably taken a high handed approach, but we are appalled for the wrong reasons.As a society, if we have any nationalist pride, we should be more aghast at how the high and mighty have sullied our nation's honour by disrespecting our soldiers but we feel more happy to support a false sense of diplomatic immunity as a national pride.

He is being honest and telling you the truth. Basically you face two prejudices- firstly your race, secondly that you're an American (which come with bad morals etc (in their view)). I live in Asia, and for most Asians, while they will tolerate a *****- but they won't allow their children to marry one. This is because ****** are seen to be highly socially undesirable- basically they are seen to lack all the qualities desirable in a spouse- wealth, stability, manners, breeding, class (not my views btw). Most commonly, it's a black man marrying an Asian girl. I have known several men who have completely disowned their daughters (completely cut off all of their money, etc) for having relationships with blacks, when studying in the US. Now, the mother occasionally visits, the father refuses and her siblings visit in secret- not wanting to incur their father's anger. The racist & class attitudes that prevail in Asia are so persistent- they can never be erased- an example is how the US is an enlightened society but still unspoken elements of racism are very commonplace. You have to remember too, in Asia, that family is more important than the individual. This means many marriages are often business or power related, in that Asians like to either marry up or into th same class, very rarely down (no assumptions made about yourself) so that trhe family also benefis from the relationship. An example: A Chinese father has a business and the daughter is keen on the boy of a politician- the father will push for the marriage as it will mean not only financial stability for the daughter but also for the family. Unless you're quite wealthy or at least as wealthy as this Indian boy, I strongly suggest that you move on and find someone more suitable You can almost be guaranteed that all/elements of his family will never accept you (however attractive, polite etc you may be) and the mother will always think that her darling boy could have done so much better with a nice Indian girl.

People who praise Indira Gandhi , anti India policies are usually Muslim Loving Left Wingers. The same people Hate Narendra Modi , who showed far greater strength by winning Elections for three consecutive terms. Indira Gandhi success was due to the fact that the Gandhis had successfully imprisoned India ( in terms fo Information & Technology ).They actually kept India backward Deliberately ( License Permit Quota Raj - ) This helped Nehrus & Gandhis indirectly - an Imprisoned people were held to ransom. She did bring DD ( Doordarshan ) but this was to become a congress mouth piece. DD ( Doordarshan ) helped her popularity a great deal ( including Rajiv Gandhi ). Doordarshon Samachar only showed News about Gandhis ( Indira Gandhi ). So did the mainstream Newspapers. All this helped build congress into a powerful fortress ...until "...BOFORS.." ( which announced Indian PM had taken Bribes ).Congress had a Brute Majority in Parliament. Had it not been for Bofors , Congress would have still been in power & its crimes might have never seen the light of the day.Congress would have kept India backward ( & Imprisoned just like North Korea , or Iran ) both Technologically & Knowledgeably We Indians would never have had Liberalization Programme ( under PVNarasimha Rao ) We Indians would never have had Cable TV networks ( Which had been there around the world since 1940-50s ). Do Sikhs like being called indian?
bro, i've been there and done that. i've been wearing a distaar sense i was in 1st grade. yeah i was made fun of alot, got into more than enough fights and more then enough **** i couldn't handle, but i made it out alive. and you shouldn't care what other people say about you, you are who you are, and if another person has a problem with that, then they can go jump into a well for all you or anyone else cares. if i can make it with the sikh identity intact then you should have no problem without it. all i can tell you is if you like our religion then continue to tell those who misunderstand us for terrorist, that we're not, and if you have to learn all about our history and beliefs and explain to the misunderstood then you should. but be careful, most of our history was written by anti-sikhs, if you don't know already, our people were brought to the brink of extinction more than once, we were hated alot, and still are by many. :) hope this helps. and our guru says "if you argue with an idiot, your the bigger idiot" so don't argue with anyone just tell them what you know and move on, if you don't know something, say you don't know and find out about it from someone who does. and people are idiots, you should tell them that not all muslims are terrorists, thats like saying all whites are inbreeds.
