Islamic People Who Can Read/speak Arabic

I want to convert to Islam but I don't speak Arabic. Can I pray in English?

Not at all :) I converted about 2 years ago, and I only know a handful of phrases in Arabic... when I pray or make du'a, I do so in English. I'm pretty sure God speaks all languages ;)

If you ever, ever, ever have any questions about your conversion (or religion in general) - you can email me.

DOes LOUIS FARRAKHAN speak and READ ARABIC?

When he joined the nation of islam, Elijah Muhammad was running it and he wanted his followers to learn Arabic so Farrakhan certainly learned some. Farrakhan can speak Arabic but, not being an Arabic speaker, I can't say how well Farrakhan speaks it, much less reads it.

Muslims: Arabic Reading?

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله
Asslam Alikum Wa ramatu Allah
The Holy Quran is Written In Othmani script, Khalef Otman (R)
It is kept in this format so it won’t be change, and after so many Non Arabs Converted to Islam, It was difficult for them to read Quran without the " Tashkeel" which is fatha, Dammah, Kassrah, Sukun...etc, this was added during the period of Saiduna Ali Bin Abi Talib (R), So the main reason for that is to sure that every body will read the Holy Quran in a correct way, Because a small change from Dammah to Fatha will change the Whole meaning,
If you want to memorize Quran I advise you to Use B7thy Quran toolbar,

Do Muslim Iranians speak Farsi or Arabic?

Islam has always been associated with Arabic. The Quran was originally written in Arabic. Since Iranians are of Persian descent and speak Farsi, do they speak Arabic during religious ceremonies(much like English speaking Christians who speak Latin) or do they have Farsi Qurans and speak Farsi?

Can Pakistanis speak Arabic?

Pakistan is not an Arab or a Middle Eastern country and Arabic is not an indigenous language so most people in Pakistan can’t speak Arabic.Pakistanis speak several languages. Urdu is the national language and almost everyone can speak and understand it (many people speak it with very strong accents). Additionally, we have Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi, Balochi, Brahui, Shina, Siraiki, Kashmiri, Hindko, Darri and several other local languages. Also, English is the co-official language (with Urdu) and many people can speak and understand it.Almost all Pakistanis can read Arabic text even if they can’t understand what they’re reading because Urdu looks quite similar to Arabic. Here is a comparison of the Urdu and Arabic alphabet:As you can see, the alphabet looks pretty similar but Urdu has some letters that Arabic does not have. For instance, Arabic does not have a letter that has a ‘P’ sound (which means that a lot of the Arabs can’t actually pronounce ‘Pakistan’ properly and instead go with ‘Bakistan’). Additionally, some characters are pronounced differently despite looking the same, for instance ‘ض’ gives us a ‘z’ sound in Urdu whereas in Arabic, it has a ‘D’ sound. Now, let’s have a look at a sample sentence, for simplicity’s sake (and because Google translate messes up more complex text), the sentence we’ll use is ‘How are you?’:As you can see, the Urdu and Arabic text doesn’t look anything alike despite using the same script and additionally, the way the phrases are spoken is quite different too, yet both mean exactly the same thing. Most people in Pakistan would be able to read the Arabic text, they just wouldn’t have a clue as to what it actually means. This is quite similar to English and other languages written using Latin script, for instance ‘How are you?’ in Latin is ‘Quid agis?’ and while most people who can read English will be able to read the words, their pronunciation will probably be slightly off and they’d have no clue what it means.Hope this helps :-)

What percentage of Muslim population can read and write Arabic, the language of Muhammad and Koran?

The Arabic which is in the Qura'n and the Arabic which is spoken by native speakers or non- native speakers is different. The majority of the Muslims in the Islamic like UAE, SAUDI ARABIA, MORROCCO, EGYPT, TURKEYetc countries reand and write Arabic except INDIA, PAKISTAN, NIGERIA , BANGLADES etc.Very less percentage of Muslims in India write Arabic language (approx20%).In India only islamic scholars and the NRI's (doing jobs in Islamic countries) may read and write the Arabic language. Now the Qura'n , majority of the Muslims knew how to read Qura'n whether they are from Islamic country or non Islamic country. For example for every five, three or for of them knew how to read the Qura'n.

Why do Turkish people say they are Muslim when they can't read or talk in Arabic?

The same way I'm Hindu and I can't speak a word of Sanskrit. The only minimum Arabic that a Muslim would have to learn would be this:Yes, the accesion of faith. And possibly the first Surah of the Quran, Al-Fatihah:Anyways, Islam is not an Arab-only religion. İf Prophet Muhammad SAW was born in India, the Quran would have been revealed in Sanskrit or Pali and the ever popular phrase Allah Hu Akbar would have become something like Ishwara sarvashakti Hi (I suck in Sanskrit anyway, no fatwas on me please :p). İslam and the Quran were revealed in Arabic because that was the language spoken in the place where the Prophet PBUH was born. Nothing else.We Indians have more Muslims than the entire Gulf states combined. All of them either speak in their regional language or maybe Urdu, which is a Persianized register of Hindustani. They perform the 5 pillars dutifully. Are they not Muslims then? Show me the verse from the Quran or the Hadith where its said that all Muslims should know Arabic.Even if they did speak Arabic, I heard it from my Muslim friend that inorder to truly understand the Quran, one must take up a Bachelors in Islamic Studies. It's plenty of work you know. And Arabic is such a language that if I speak the Iraqi dialect to someone in Morocco, he'll just give me a blank stare. Okay, fushaa is there, but still, it aint easy. And you're talking about Turkish people. If I know right, Atatürk paşa had set forth a council to purge the Turkish language of Persian and Arabic words. Of course, some of them are still there though. And what about his rule of chanting the aazan in Turkish? Or his rule of teaching the Quran in Turkish?I personally believe that what Atatürk did was right. You can get more closer to religion and God if the same is revealed to you in your mother tongue. I think thats why I feel Turks are cool. But then, the Wahabi mullahs in Saudi Arabia have already declared me and the people of my faith as kafirs who deserve to burn in hell. Even the most hardline Ayatollah in Iran has never said something like this. Anyways, the Saudis have the moolah, they get to decide. So, this answer may be conveniently ignored as well. I wrote what I felt by the way!
