Is there any growth in technical support engineer job?

YES & NOLet me explainFirst let us see the scenario where there is no chance of growth:You come to job, take the calls go for break. Smoke and gossip with co-workers. Blame your TL and manager for not giving hike or for making you work like a dog.Go home drink and party with friends, shag off to porn and sleep. Get up next day and repeat. After 5 to 7 years you will maximum be a manager or TL and still frustrated. I am not telling its a bad job. But cmon, if you are working in a BPO (another name for tech support) at age of 32 or 35…you are not living up to your full potential.Second let us see another scenario:You work as a technical support engineer. You try to know the product you are supporting inside out. While working take notes of the technical issues that customer is facing.Parallel to this you do a technical course like MCSA, CCNA, Python etc or anything which interests you. Google anything which you dont understand. Resolve doubts.Do smart work. try to stay good in books and maintain a good relationship with your TL and manager. this really helps you in long run. Try to study as much as possible at work place without anyone chiming in. Stay humble and never gossip. At home enjoy, go out with friends but still devote some time to practice what you learn, on virtualization softwares, which for sure you cannot do at office.Learn the job market. Decide which area you would like to go. Develop a killer resume and attend as much job interviews as possible. Now see the difference. There is definitely growth in technical support. Its about how much you put in. Many jobs like security, networking, system engineering etc look for candidate who has technical support experience because tech support engineers come from grassroot level and know the business much more than that coder who sometimes do not even know what he is coding for and how it is going to help the end customer. And trust me on this that, you will be surprised to see the take home salary of the engineers who start from tech support.! Its freaking huge!Good Luck!
