Which is better, curly hair or straight hair?
I spent a good 10 years of my life trying to straighten my curly hair, only to have it dry and damaged from all the heat. I wanted to look pretty, to look just like the rest of the girls with silk straight hair. It’s funny how badly I wanted to sport straight hair that I completely missed the part where I was damaging the very same hair I wanted to look pretty. And boy, there’s nothing pretty about damaged hair.Even when I had them straightened, I received criticisms with regard to my hair. The worst being, “your hair looks like my pubic hair”. That hurt me so much I locked myself for days. I felt like death when I had to go out and meet people. I really wanted out.Years of straightening my hair finally took a toll on me. I woke up one day and decided, enough is enough. I had contemplated it for the longest time, but I finally found the courage to do it. I shaved my hair off.The transition was anything but easy. I struggled every other day. And I realised that I could shave my hair off, but they’d grow back. And then what? It was about time, I told myself. I needed to love myself. I needed to respect myself. “Embrace your curls Fash!” I told myself every morning.That was five years ago. Now my hair is fully back, and I keep them short so it’s easier for me to manage. I know whats good and whats not for my hair, and I take no offense when someone has anything bad to say. And guess what? Nobody has anything bad to say! At least not to my face.Once in blue moon I’d straighten my hair. But most of the time I just let them bounce. Acceptance is a big word. I have curly hair and all my boyfriend loved it! Honestly, i think both look good. Just let your hair breathe and only straighten them for a special occasion PS: If you doin't like your curls, John Fre(e)da has a serum (?) that makes your hair more curly and neat after you dry them with the hair drier (and I'm sure other brands do it too). Are you from America are another Western country? In America white people virtually own everything (seriously) and white Americans pretty much decide what's attractive and whats not. Just look at Hollywood, must of the "black" actress aren't even fully black, their mixed black and white most of the time. I think it's sad that people of color are brainwashed into thinking blond hair, light skin, and blue eyes are attractive. You may want to switch iron if you don't have a ceramic iron and ALWAYS use Heat Tamer what ever you do use a protectant against the heat!! I don’t really know why that happens but I really did agree to get my daughter’s head shaved twice in order to get back her original straight hair ;-)It is my husband’s family custom to shave the head of a girl baby 3 times, once a year for the first 3 years.My daughter’s hair was so straight when she was born but after we shaved it the first time, her hair started growing curly. really curly!when my in laws insisted we shave it again after her second bday, I was not so happy but it suddenly occurred to me that she might get back her straight hair and agreed!now, she has super straight hair and am happy about the decision!what about the third time - well, am really not planning on that one ;-)
