Items To Stock Up For Winter Months

When do stores begin to sell winter coats?

I would say fall/winter stuff will start coming out by August at the earliest. I also looked at Nordstrom really quick and they have a Coat Shop year-round. If you click on that and then click on view all coats, and then pick the size she needs, you should definitely find something. They didn't have XXL that I could see but they do have pluz sizes, so maybe that would fit.

Just find the measurements for XXL articles of clothing on another website and then compare those measurements with the measurements for Nordstrom's sizes and you should find something that fits

Do you keep your cupboards stocked for the winter?

I live in the east of England and the last three winters have been bad with heavy snow lasting for several weeks. My cottage is seven miles from the nearest town and off a main road and I don't have transport. I start stocking up on things in September but it's not just the worry of storms that sets me off filling my freezer and cupboards. I get an urge to stock up generally, bit like a squirrel! And like a squirrel I gather wild fruits like blackberries and hips and make jam and syrup.
My cottage doesn't have central heating, just two open fires, so I go out in the woods (my cottage stands in a wood) and bring home sacks of kindling and wood to saw into logs. I saw my own logs and stack them.
So, yes, I am another one who is well prepared.

What are the most important tips on winter driving?

My #1 Tip regardless of what kind of car you have:Get a set of snow tires. They don’t have to be studded (illegal in some states) nor do they need to be very expensive. The thing is snow tires have a different rubber compound than summer or all-season tires that provide grip at lower temperatures. Even driving on dry pavement in very cold temperatures, snow tires will provide more grip. Grip is what allows your car to accelerate, turn, and stop. All important things!I buy a second set of cheap wheels for my cars and have the snow tires mounted. Then I can switch out wheels when I want. In Colorado, where I live, we frequently have below-zero temperatures for a week and then 60F temperatures. I do various motorsports in my car, so I will switch out my tires depending on what I’m doing. But the normal temp, Summer tires live in the house when the temps get too cold.Miatas doing Miata things: autocross on a frozen lake with rear wheel drive? Thankfully I have inexpensive snow tires! BTW, that day my fastest time through the course was in reverse. Go figure…Tip #2: Another poster mentioned following distance. This is especially true in winter driving. Even if the pavement looks dry, you may hit a patch of “black ice” where the ice sheet is so thin you see right through it and it looks invisible. Watch your mirrors if you have to come to a stop because the guy behind you in the 4WD SUV may not have snow tires. 4WD doesn’t help him stop but your rear bumper will!Tip #3: On really bad days in Colorado, I skip the car entirely and take public transportation for as much of my drive as I can. That way my car is safe in my garage or in a park and ride parking lot while someone else deals with the craziness.Tip #4: If you get a chance, take a winter driving school or find an empty parking lot and intentionally make your car slide around. You’ll learn why people like “drifting” as a motorsport.

What are some of the products that sell well during the month of December and January?

The list is long and there are variety of products that sell most during the winter period. some of high moving products areDecember -Sweaters, heavy coats, Pull Overs, Winter boots etc. Also keep in mind of the New Year coming in. Start bringing in limited edition items, eg calendars, souvenirs, personalised memorabilia etc.January -Stock up on raincoats, boots and umbrellas for the coming few months.. People will start getting tired of the cold weather and will be anxiously waiting for summers. Summer clothing, accessories and shoes . Valentines day shopping also picks up.

Is it okay to leave a car unused for two months or more?

The only thing it's bad for is the brakes, depending on were you live and wear the car is stored. The brakes will rust especially drum brakes, don't keep the parking on if you can. The only other issue is ethanol fuel it will grab moister from the air and turn to shit in a hurry , it can also phase seperate were the ethanol will sit at the bottom of the tank , it can't be remixed once this happens . So fill the tank with a premium fuel with out ethanol. Do not remove the battery or disconnect it with some cars this will screw up the ecm or something like that .

Do you shop at thrift stores or consignment shops?

I dont usually go into a thrift store but there is one in our town and it's pretty decent. I went shopping for my toddler today to go ahead and stock up on some winter clothes. I went to several stores and bought her some new stuff and then decided to pop into the thrift store and just take a gander at what they had for her size. I got her:
(3) pairs of sweat type sleepy pants all Carter's brand

(1) pair of name brand (Arizona) jeans with adjustable waist bands (I always buy her pants with adjustable waist so she can grow into and I was so suprised to find these at the thrift store)
(4) long sleeve tops that look brand new with not a mark or hole in them.
(1) Fleece pullover hoody that looks new
(1) fleece jacket that is just precious

all for $7.59. I think I may have to start going into there more often. I did get everything tax free because it's tax free weekend in our state but still it's awesome prices. Every item was tagged at less than $1. :)

Do you shop at thrift stores? What do you normally buy? Is there anything you wont buy second hand? I wont buy things like sheets, pillows, underwear, bras, or swimsuits or socks second hand. I will buy my toddler tops, pants, dresses, and sometimes if I find me a top or my husband I will buy. Mostly just go there to check the kids stuff though.
