Its A Good Job Americans Dont Care About The World Cup Since They Wont Be In It For Long

To all Americans: What do you think of the World Cup? (Football/Soccer)

As a young, 20 years old, American soccer fanatic, I can say that without a doubt that the United States gets more and more into the World Cup. Even people who hail soccer as “boring” and “unbearable” find themselves staring at the television screen when the US plays in the World Cup. As long as you have a minor interest in sports, plenty of national pride, and the media hypes up the team, then there is a good chance you will be a “fan,” even if it is only during the World Cup.Now I remember the effects the 2010 and 2014 World Cup had on many of my non-soccer fan peers. There was a “soccer fever” and along with watching the USMNT, many of these “soccer haters” would find their pick-up American Football games turn into a regular football (soccer) game. Most wouldn’t be any good, but still have a ton of fun. Now instead of hating soccer, as they may adamantly say they do still, they have a soft spot for soccer. This is key in American Soccer growth. Their difference as a half-hearted fan will mean little in the grand scheme of things, but having a soft spot for soccer will. Now when they have children soccer may be the sport they sign their children up for. And that child could be the next star for the US. That child could have never touched a soccer ball because their parent(s) would never want their children to play that wimpy, European/Mexican sport. But they saw the US play, they saw Donovan’s late winner against Algeria in 2010, they saw Abby Wambach tie it up against Brazil at the last possible moment, they screamed at the refs when a wrong call was made, and still felt proud of our athletes even after we lost. They caught a case of soccer fever, which I hope gets passed on genetically.

Do you feel it’s important to fake caring about the World Cup at work so you don’t seem out of touch?

Nope. I stuck my £2 into the work sweepstakes (got Panama, doh!) but that’s all. I won’t watch a single game, unless I’m in a pub that happens to have it on.Sure, a portion of conversation at lunch time in the canteen will be about the football. But that’s not really different to normal (we are a predominantly male business, with a good selection of Liverpool, Everton, United and City fans). There will typically be at least one other person on the table who similarly isn’t bothered, so I’ll talk to them for that period. To be honest though, there’s probably more social pressure to be up to date with Love Island. And I don’t watch that either!

Van jones at americans future now... wants america to be like south africa?

Van jones gave a speech at this conference where he said something in the way of taking the government from the bottom up and how they will do it much like it was done in south africa. Well , i can't find the video of him saying this, but if anyone knows what has been going on in south africa , you will know that this is not something we want.

So, is the liberal extremist plan to turn the United states into the next south africa? Well, I have been saying this for some time now , but hearing it from Van Jones the man himself , lol . South africa didn't turn out that good for anybody, do we really want this?

Why don't Americans respect soccer?

I do not think they it is about respect.. most of the people that do not understand the history or meaning about the sport.Have to be educated on what the game is about and why it is played the way it is played. With the MLS making its march in our sports culture, things can only go up and the people will be educated more and more every year. They will see that soccer or futbol is a worldwide sport that is played all over the world with alot of passion. ,and soon the whole country will wonder why we have not won this prestigeous trophy. The USA has a good program from youth to professional and the more people see that hard work they will wonder how Brazil has won the world cup as many times as they have,or maybe they will remember the NASL and so many good teams and players that participated in making a lasting impression on the American sports culture.. The USA has alot of potential and always have ,,look in 1934 the USA did well on a world stage and in 2002 ,we were a post shot away from being in semifinals against Turkey. The Country is doing well and they support the USA team, but with a World Cup win that would really get people even more exited every time a soccer game is played.
