Job Promises And Supposed Employment.

I am being passed up for a promotion that was promised to me. I want to quit, but love my job. Should I go?

I passed up a higher income a couple of months a go after the boss said I was being promoted. The promotion/income at my current job would have been higher than the other so I declined the offer. Instead of promoting me a person is being hired from outside. I believed the boss when I was told I would be the new head honcho. I feel discouraged and feel that I was being led to beleive this in order to keep me there. How can I trust anything this person says to me in the future? I want to leave and I feel like a fool for declining the previous offer. I really enjoy what I do and love my coworkers. I dont want to work under another incompetent, that takes the credit for everyones work. I was so counting on that promotion in order to get out of the poor house. And here I am again @ square one. I've worked my butt off for 2 years, spent more time @ work than home or with family. Trying until surpassing every challenge. Putting in so many hours, so much dedication! I feel so let down

Career Advice: Is work supposed to be fun?

Not necessarily. Fun is a byproduct of what work is really supposed to be. I’ll get there in a moment. It might be useful to first reflect on what work isn’t supposed to be, and here are two obvious adjectives: unethical and destructive (unless you’re a demolition expert, ha). Fun is definitely desirable. Everyone should aim to include or experience fun in their work, and especially so in their office or workplace. But if work was fun-centric, there would be some adverse implications on productivity and other relevant aspects of a business’s operations.Work is supposed to be purpose-driven. The easiest answer to pursuing a purpose-driven career is to pursue one of your passions. When a person believes they are conducting purposeful work that has a positive impact on the world, it opens up the possibilities of what work is supposed to be. Purpose-driven work allows work to seesaw between being fun and stressful.Work isn’t supposed to be skewed towards one side of the range of human emotion. It is anchored in an individual’s authentic purpose and their subsequent values. Find your purpose, and I promise that you will have fun!

Is the closing of GM plants a betrayal of Trump’s promise to create more jobs?

Well, while promising jobs is not a solid promise, it’s not a betrayal if jobs are lost. BUT……………………there is a much bigger problem here that no one seems to have seen, obvious as it is.The mainstream news………………..yes, it’s accurate, lets keep the dumb conspiracy theories at bay and be grown ups…………has reported since the trade wars began, many losses of jobs from industries to farming, companies closing many of their facilities around the country and many other business declines around the country in many fields. YET………official federal stats say we’re at a new low for unemployment and jobs have never been better in a long time. Both can not be true. The news is more accurate than anything coming out of the Trump Administration. This is clear evidence that Job reports and unemployment statistics may be simply falsified. This is very common…..if anyone reading this has worked for government at the Federal, State, County or City level, you’ve seen inaccurate statistics and either dishonest or incompetent statistics being published, to make it look like the government agency is doing very well. I’ve worked for government, and I’ve seen it lots of times. As a result, I refused to voluntarily participate in studies that I knew were churning out inaccurate data.So folks, we’ve all been betrayed by inaccurate stats on jobs and employment coming from the most corrupt administration since the 1800s. The so called strong economy may not have been strong at all.

If a company promised the HR person will contact you for an interview, how long should you wait to ask if they forgot?

The best time to call is now. It looks to me as if this question itself has likely been up for some time, and you've already been waiting for a while. The job doesn't give itself to you, and so you're best off NOT taking the risk. This should be especially true for yourself if this is a job that you are pursuing. You should not feel as if clearing this issue up by calling them will actually affect your chance of being hired. Why would it? An employer (unless he is a douche bag) will only care about HOW MUCH YOU CAN MAKE FOR THE COMPANY, he WANTS to see if there are more people to consider, and you want work experience, you want a little bit of cash in your pocket so you don't starve in the streets. Call him now.Sometimes, people may not have the confidence to fall their employer or engage with them. Well, if you cannot address this fear, you are not going to get the job anyways, and you will flunk the interview. No pressure. Call your employer right now, ask him what the HELL is taking so long (kidding, just tell him that you didn't get when the call was going to happen). Now — there is one CRITICAL FACTOR to consider… That is, unless you're sure otherwise, you DIDNT GET the interview. But, if you've waited let's say, two weeks, it DOESNT MATTER, just call them. Because if you didn't get the interview, it's BETTER to make the call, as you won't be wasting your time any longer waiting for a call that isn't going to come. So, if I can sum up, it is definitely in your best interest to call immediately. If you are too much of a pansy, I'll give you two weeks MAX… If it's already been two weeks, make the call. No offence of calling you a pansy, I'm just joking around.

Are jobs posted on craigslist legit?

I just had an interview for a legitimate office job I found on Craigslist-it is one of the Job Boards I scour daily. Just use your common sense...If it sounds too good to be true and they promise you a lot of money-no experience needed, it is probably not legit.

As I said just use your common sense because there are some legit jobs on there....

Good Luck!

Is it worth the risk to work as a Customer Service Representative?

I have the opportunity to take a new job as a Customer Service Representative w/c pays a handsome salary that doubles the minimum wage. But the distance from home will be quite far about 15 kms in the next city. But my friend said not to worry since they provide transportation only in going to the workplace.Currently i work as an internet cafe cashier pays lower than minimum wage but the job is a relaxed one since i get to listen 2 music, surf the internet during my graveyard shift.I took the job bec.my aunt offered it to me while i was still looking for a job for a big company. So i am considered underemployed right now in this job since i graduated w/ a 4-year Business degree in College.I know i had to take a serious career that pays well w/ what i studied for in college. But will the high pay & hardwork be worth it when i know i won't be as relaxed & in control compared w/ my present job.

What should you do if an employer who says that he will call back doesn't?

It's not really a deadline for your potential employer as they have all the power. It's more of a promise of what they intend to do. Things could change. I've seen them change. In a low key way you might send an email, thanking X company/agency for the opportunity to interview, that you realize that the contact window has passed and you realize you weren't chosen yet hope to learn from the experience.Ask if there are one or two areas that you might build your skill bank (or whatever they're looking for) for your future. Ask for a pointer or two thanking them for taking the time.Sometimes things happen, a death or serious illness in the org or family of a major player can stop the clock. Also you may not be the best but were second best. Maybe the best will get a better offer and the org will then be liking your mature attitude in the face of disappointment. There are often situations in which the hiree is known before anyone interviews - although no one will admit this. Then the unexpected happens. That's the way it goes.I've seen second or third best turn out to be surprisingly reliable and enthusiastic employees. It's important for you to keep up your skills, a positive outlook, and your sense of humor as you continue interviewing.

Why has the Modi government been unable to create more jobs in the country?

Govt in any country do not create jobs themselves, but it provides a platform for entrepreneurs to give jobs to people. In my opinion they have failed because:Biggest factor is overpopulation- number of jobs not matching large number of people. — and nothing has been done to control it.Many competitive exam papers were leaked in past few years repeatedly and no one has been arrestedFailed to implement the labour laws in IT sector efficiently, leading to mass unjustified layoffs by many companies.Result of previous competitive exams have not been declared, or postings have not come yet of exams held 2 years before (eg. SSC exams)Including JIO institute in list of 6 eminent institutes even before it is built. (https://www.thehindu.com/educati...)Unable to catch bank defaulters who have taken loan and escaped the country. This increases financial burden on country. Ultimately total money in a country in limited.Making Phd compulsory for teaching in even average engineering colleges. — was not required as there is no major research done in most private colleges. But now if one wants to become a lecturer in private college he/she has to waste 5–75 years of his life. What should have been done:Bringing new policies and laws to control population growth.Changing syllabus of schools and colleges to industrial oriented.Changing evaluation in colleges to project based than just written exams. - to increase skill of studentsTaking strict measures to avoid exam paper leaks in competitive exams.Implementing labour laws efficiently in IT and private banking sector — to decrease unjustified layoffs.Disclaimer: this is just a personal view not to oppose any person, organization, community or state
