Jobs On Computers Open A Pc Repair Shop

I want to open a computer repair shop. What good advice do you have?

Our shop is currently in its fifth year and doing well. We've seen more than six shops open and close around us. Here are some things I learned along the way:- GET A CPA! (The tax liability is on them. It's worth it.)- Location is important! (Try to be on a main road)- Businesses are less work and more money. (Many tech's I know just work business contracts. Consider doing that instead.)- Time is money. (Getting work done quickly and not wasting time on overly-complicated systems will keep you afloat.)- Know your competition. (Don't open a shop in a location that already has enough support.)- Fixed rates build trust. (Have fixed rates for popular jobs like virus removal, your clients will appreciate it and the time averages out in the end.)- A shop costs. (It cost me ~$100,000 to get my shop to the point where I was making enough money to start paying back loans.)- Your first year (or two) will suck. (It takes time to establish a shop.)- Use bins! (I put all of my computers and their provided peripherals in large bins, my accidents were cut in half.)- Have a lawyer do a sign-in form a client has must fill out to leave their computer with you. - Use digital logs. (Paper notes are sloppy and filing them for future reference is nearly impossible to do well.)- This job is %75 customer service, maybe more. (Be presentable, keep your shop clean!)- If you don't have the money start smaller. (You can get clients and contracts to support you before you start getting huge loans for a shop.)- Don't forget other avenues of profit. (Selling gift-card, phone minutes, repairing tablets, selling used things on ebay, and many more!)- Don't sell refurbished systems at your shop. (Honestly it's more trouble than it's worth.)- Advertise. (It will take time to find out which advertisements work better for you but don't think Facebook and Yelp reviews are all you need.)Hopefully that helps!

MY OWN COMPUTER REPAIR BUSINESS?

Can I suggest to you that if you don't have the finances to go full swing at the the moment, that you start off small, as in advertise your service in the local paper, drop letterbox leaflets etc. and do the repairs after work and on weekends. This will give you a chance to get established with a client base and also let you see for sure if this is what you want to do and that you can do it. As for components like mother boards, I think most people expect them to be replaced rather than repaired, so I would not worry about that side of it. Can I also suggest that you make yourself a network expert, especially wireless, there is an ever growing need for this in the domestic and small business market. Once you gain some confidence you can target the small business market, the ones that can't afford or justify an in house IT person. Real estate offices are are good place to start, they will have a small network and a room full of dopey salesmen hitting the enter key til the system freezes..... can't beat regular customers
Good luck.. hope you do it & succeed

Computer Repair: Why won't people subscribe to my course?

Have looked at your site. Having it at a well known name is reassuring to me, but that  might not mean anything to your target audience. I  would like my computer to run faster, but even if your course was free, I would find the prospect of 17 lectures offputting. It sounds like a lot of time input from me, even the term " lecture " has  a negative ring about it - module might sound better. ( eg Don't you lecture me! - negative. Typical college lecture - 1 hour of boredom, with 5 mins of useful info - negative )So scanning down the course content  ( remember that I am looking for a way to get my computer running faster, it has been gradually slowing down over the years, don't have the money to buy a new one ) - the first thing I see is on backing up my computer. ..good advice, but not what I was there for...A bit of the same for the rest. It looks like a mini course in understanding your computer better, but that is not going to excite people too much. Yes,  in principle they want to, in the same way they want to budget better,  take more exercise blah blah.So I my opinion, if you are targeting a group of people who want to ma k e their laptop run faster the course outline would run maybe like this..Module 1 - why it is running slowModule 2  - 5 first to last steps in approaches. Then optional modules on hardware upgrades, installation of linux?? etc Optional but included in price, so that people know that they don't have to go that far just to get the machine back to original speed.Hyper critical answer I know; but I assume you want that. Also Remember that many of your customers may have fallen for crappie freeware that promises to speed up their pc, and now may be a bit skeptical about paying out. Also most people underestimate their abilities to learn this stuff, so you need to emphasis on the beginner / intermediate friendly nature of lessons.I also agree with the other answer, that advertising in conventional media may hit a different audience. Letting it go for free for a limited time with a donation option may let you know whether the price is a issue. In any case saying that a refund is available is different from saying that a refund is easily available. ..automatic,  no hassle, no quibble refund etc. Most people are honest, won't look for a refund if they got anything out of the course.Hope this is of help.

Why do computer repair people need my laptop password for a hardware repair?

So my laptop cracked near the hinge as a result of poorly made plastic. It cracked under the pressure of opening and closing it.

They said they would replace that part for free but asked for my password. Why would they even need that? It's Windows 8.

How much would it cost to start a computer repair business?

I'm considering starting my own business, but I can't seem to figure out a good figure for what it could cost. I'm planning on doing repairs, upgrades, virus removal, etc. I'm not sure yet if I want to start it out of my home at first or not so if anyone could give me an idea of what it would cost to open it out of my home as well as opening it as it's own location that would be great.

What are the qualifications to repair a computer?

The standard entry-level industry certification is the CompTIA A+ certification.  If you expect to get a job repairing computers, it’s fairly safe to assume that your potential employer is going to ask for one or more of the CompTIA certifications. For example, if you’re going to be spending a lot of time repairing computers that are running Linux, they might expect you to have the CompTIA Linux+ certification.  If your potential job encompasses installing networks, then they might also want you to have the Network+ certification, and possibly the Security+, Server+, and Cloud+ certifications too.  If the job includes troubleshooting and repairing mobile devices like smartphones, that falls under the Mobility+ certification. And, of course, there’s all the other certifications.  For example, if you’re going to be configuring networks using nothing but Cisco equipment… and since Cisco equipment runs 70% (or more) of the Internet, that’s a fair assumption… an employer might also ask for the Cisco CNP or CNA certification.  (The CNA includes everything that’s in the CNP, and then some.)If you, or the company you work for, has a maintenance contract from another company, then there might be even more certifications.  For example, I am a Dell field technician.  In order to keep that job, I have to keep up-to-date on my Dell DCSE certification tests, which includes everything you need to know about taking apart and re-assembling Dell products. But for just repairing computers in general?  The A+ will get your foot in the door.  That’s the starting point for all desktop and laptop repairs.
