Jobs To Do With Geography After Uni

What can I do with a B.A. in Geography (GIS) ?

The military needs people who are good with maps and satellites and GIS. Believe me, you'll be welcome with a geography degree in the military.

When you get out, you can become a cartographer; or you can go to work for somebody like Rand McNally (world's largest map maker); or a satellite mapping company; or a GIS company.

A degree like that is also an excellent stepping stone to a wide variety of masters degrees... including masters degrees completely unrelated to geography. History degrees are like that, too.

And, of course, you could teach... only at the high school level, with just the bachelors (and only after getting a teaching certificate). But once you have the masters you could either continue teaching high school, or you could teach at the undergrad level in college... including teaching geography, which you clearly love.

Contact the department of the school where you'll be getting the degree and ask them for a prospectus on career opportunities with that degree. I think you'll be surprised by what you find.

Hope that helps.

Depends on the area within Geography that you focus, right? It might be easier to get a job if your expertise is in quantitative subject areas that allow you to be a market researcher, data analyst, or transportation analyst. I have my master’s in geography from Ohio State in the U.S. I had to find work on my own, as the dept didn’t have any outside connections to the real world. But I was able to articulate my skills, like using SPSS / SAS for analysis, when I applied for jobs. Best of luck to you!
