Johns Hopkins or Brown University?
Honestly, it depends on the program, but I don't think you'd be placing yourself at a significant advantage or disadvantage if you chose one over the other. The real difference, and the factor you should be looking at in addition to the specific program you're considering, is the "feel" of the campus. Despite being an Ivy, Brown is more laid-back, and places more value on creative pursuits. Hopkins is more studious, and students who are going into science or politics tend to get more attention from the administration. Providence and Baltimore are also very different environments, so don't ignore that aspect.

What is your review of Johns Hopkins University?
★★★It's a great school with many interesting students and professors. But that doesn't make it the right school for you. Hopkins has a long history of both excellence and focus on teaching theory over application. It's also unique in that it began as a graduate school (the first in the U.S.) and tried on more than one occasion to get rid of its undergraduates. But since undergrads help pay the bills and also, to a lesser extent because there was a sense that undergrads have to be trained in order to have grads, they never did. When I attended as an undergrad in the early 80s, there was a sense of being an afterthought. Having just attended my 30th reunion, I'd say there's a very different sense now. Undergrads are a major focus these days. I think it's a much better school today than it was back then. And yet it's still a place for those who are very serious about their studies and for those who are willing to seek out opportunities to learn rather than having it delivered up on a platter. If you're thinking of going there, be sure to visit. While there, speak with professors and students. Sit in on classes. Do this at other schools too. And then trust what your gut tells you. Honestly, Hopkins was not the best choice for me. But it may be for you. I recently spoke with a girl who chose Hopkins over Princeton and she expressed certainty that she had made the right choice. The thing many fail to recognize is it's not just about the place. What makes a good match is how well the place lines up with your individual interests, likes and needs.
Can You Get Into Johns Hopkins University With a GED ?
I could not find anything on its website that categorically stated that GED is acceptable or that you must have a HS diploma. If your SAT or ACT scores are good enough, apply if you like. Here is a summary of the middle 50% of those admitted last year: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/ac... I am not a fan of JHU undergraduate - you can do so much better elsewhere at a saner cost. The grad school is world class. Here is a summary of what JHU looks at in considering undergrad admissions: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...
