Joining A Gym For The First Time

How should I prepare for joining a gym? It is my first time. My age is 19 years old.

Thanks for A2A.As you are new to training , there are many things you should know .As you asked for prep before joining gym, you should work on your stamina and make it a habit for your body .For first 2 weeks :For stamina and habit part , you can start by running.Keep increasing the distance or decrease the time taken ,This will help your body and brain to be in habit of physical activities as well as stamina and this can be done without any equipment.Be regular , never skip. Its more about making it a habit as most of the people start skipping their gym sessions after a few sessions.Just make it a part of your day just life daily chores , eating ,school/college .For 3–4 weeks :At later stage(From 3 weeks) , add some push-ups ,pull ups and bur-pees to start working on muscle training part.Start following a basic home workoutIt can be achieved by a simple home workout .Keep increasing your count and intensity. If you follow it , you will be ready for joining gym .Beside this , the MAIN thing you should start focusing is your diet. This is most important part.Start tracking your diet at the very start and it will help you a lot ..And a suggestion , never ever feel inferior by watching that guy who can do bench press of 100–150 kg or can do 100 push ups .Always remember you are beginner and you re there to beat yourself ,no one else .I Recommend you to read this article .12 Principles You Should Know Before Going Gym. - Muscle Gain IndiaMany point are covered here .You can Follow my blog also : Muscle Gain IndiaHappy to help

Help with going to gym alone for first time?

dont worry about anything. theres nothing to worry about. everyone starts somewhere. most gyms have trainers that can help you and explain everything to you. if your gym doesnt then you can just look at the machines most of them explain how to use them on the machine. or just watch what other people are doing for the correct form (id only look at people that look like they know what they're doing) lol. dont be afraid to ask for help. im sure people would be more than happy to help

First time at a boxing gym what do i need to bring with me?

bring a gymbag with the following items inside: boxer shorts, tanktop or t-shirt, extra underwear, pair of socks, 2 towels, showershoes, soap/shampoo, lock and key. (you will need these items to change into and then shower after your workouts).

next, as far as equipment goes, you will need handwraps, punching bag gloves, and a good jump rope. as you progress in your training and increase your stamina, get yourself a quality mouthpiece and train with it so that it feels natural when u begin sparring.

later on in your boxing training when you begin sparring, you will need to purchase some boxing shoes and a headguard that fits comfortably for you. i've seen alot of amateurs adjusting their headgear after receiving punches then getting hit some more in the process because it didn't fit correctly or was not adjusted properly. this way u won't have to adjust something in the middle of a match that is probably not the right size for you.

although most gyms will provide you with 16oz sparring gloves, a protective cup for your groin and a headguard for sparring, in the long run it is better if you get your own. this way you will know what feels comfortable and right for you and not some worn out/used equipment.

arriving to a boxing gym ready to go is a good sign of your maturity and shows attention to detail and commitment. this is the way a professional prepares himself for training and your question is a sign that you want to take this serious.

get yourself a coach/trainer and they will be able to guide you in the direction you need to go. he will inform you of the equipment you will need in order to succeed and develop you into a future champ.

good luck.

Whats it like first joining Boxing?

Regulations: Only that you work hard and try and give 100% everyday!

5'9" & 141 pounds: Your height and weight make you skinny but it isn't a bad thing for boxing. Muscle isn't needed in boxing, your body movement is what creates power (core strength).

Nice People: Yes very nice people, don't get me wrong people aren't going to make it a point to go talk to you because it isn't a social club but there is a lot of respect in boxing gyms. Usually everyone will shake your hand as they come and go and you should make sure to do the same with any of the older kats there.

First Day & Exercises: These 2 questions go together, at my gym I have everyone work on conditioning for the first 3 weeks for 1 hour per day, 5 days a week.

This is just me but I believe that if they have you working on bags right away then they are just going threw the motions as a trainer and don't really care about producing fighters. Now I maybe a little extreme but then again my fighters have many National Championship wins and I also have 3 current pro fighters with belts.

Tips: take a look at the guys in the gym, are they good? how often do they go to fights, this will tell you a lot about the gym and the coach. Ask these questions so that you don't wast your time being in the wrong gym. Also if this is a MMA/Boxing/Kickboxing type of gym then you are wasting your time unless you are just there to learn the basics.
A real Boxing gym is just boxing and is usually free.

Joining: I think this is a great idea, I also think its the greatest sport in the world!

Self Defense: yes it is good for self defense, its also good for physical fitness and self respect. The biggest bonus is the confidence you get from this great sport.

I hope you decide to take up this sport and really enjoy it. If you have any questions please feel to write me. Good job on asking the right questions, take care and good luck....
