Why is it morally acceptable to boil a live animal?
It is morally acceptable to cook an animal and use it for food as long as care is taken not to kill it in a slow or cruel way.Most animals that are boiled alive are crustaceans or snails. It is dangerous to cook a (non-frozen) crab for food that has already died, because crab meat spoils rapidly and it can be hard to tell whether it is safe to eat.Crabs get torn to pieces in the wild by seals and fish as the natural end of their lives, so getting boiled is a quicker and less painful death. Snails are trodden underfoot everyday, or poisoned, or gathered and fed to ducks. Boiling a snail that is in a dormant state kills it so quickly that it never shows any sign of pain and probably never awakes before death.In order to cook a crab safely and without causing it undue pain, it might be best to put it in the freezer first for an hour, so it goes to sleep and does not feel anything when cooked. A large live crab can break a human's finger easily with its claws. The salted water should be at a rolling boil as this will kill the crab or snail in a few seconds.It is possible to kill a crab or saltwater snail by putting them in fresh water (that isn't boiling), but I'm not sure how long this takes or how much distress this causes them.If the OP wants to argue that killing any animal should not be morally acceptable, sure, there is room for that position.But crab meat is a good source of iodine, sulfur and protein, aside from being delicious. And not everyone wants to be vegan.

...but if someone makes a 9/11 joke, it's considered disrespectful or terrorist-related? I honestly think jokes about both subjects would be pretty crude. You can't argue that 9/11 is more serious just because it was terrorist-related or that more people died. That's just morally wrong. Numerous of lives were taken on both days, and they were both tragic events. My deepest respects go with the deceased. And yes, I know that the movie version of Titanic is probably the reason for all those jokes, but c'mon; it's still disrespectful.

There's absolutely nothing funny about being raped, especially from a girl/woman's viewpoint. Just imagine how a rape victim would feel - the trauma of being abused and treated almost like an animal, the shame, the fear that there might not be any guy who'll love them and take them seriously after that. Now, what's so funny about that? --- Of course not, there's nothing funny about those, EITHER. So why do some make fun of it?

animal rights only to a certain extent though, i mean we cant just let all animals roam about free but just to make sure they live a life free of unnecessery pain (which by the way, in that definition of animal welfare - testing and killing animals for meat I consider to be unnecessery) and are safe and protected in a habitat thats natural to them x

I was asking people this on Omegle and watching two strangers talk back and forth. When you do this you can not join the conversation. The reactions I got from this question were: -because its good, i guess you never had bacon, i don't care about animals, they aren't all tortured, we need it to survive,you can still be against animal abuse and eat meat, if you eat vegetables you kill plants that are living, vegan food is expensive, what i do't know won't hurt me, animals don't have feelings....ugh what did I expect from people on that web site anyway!?
Why are sexist remarks/jokes in the media tolerated but ?
racist remarks/jokes are not OK. It seems it is not OK to make racist jokes in the media, that is not tolerated it is frowned upon. So why are sexist jokes tolerated. Why are such jokes not off-limits the way racist jokes and anti-semitic jokes are off limits in the media. In this country sexism is tolerated when racism and anti-semitism will not be tolerated abd should not be but why is sexism tolerated. Why is it when most people will object to racist and anti-semitic remarks/jokes they don't object to sexist remarks/jokes. Don Imus was fired for his racist remarks but Bill Maher gets away with his sexist remarks. So much outrage at Imus remarks but no outrage at the countless of sexist remarks Bill makes.
Am I Overreacting About a Rape Joke?
I saw the new Family Guy the other night, the one where Meg goes to prison, and was really disturbed by the bull raping Peter "joke". Peter is riding the bull, gets bucked off, the bull tells Peter he's gonna show him what a "breeding bull" does, grabs him, pulls his pants down (on his back, like how a woman would be raped vaginally), all the while Peter is crying and trying to fight him off for an uncomfortably long time, just to be overtaken in the end. Also...that was the whole point of the joke, that the bull rapes Peter. And it wasn't a matter of "Haha, PETER getting raped, that's okay because men are never raped" - it was much more like depicting Peter as a female rape victim. When I saw the scene I was totally confused - rape is a joke? Was an eerily realistic rape scenario really just THE joke? I've personally never been sexually assaulted but just from hearing other women talk about it it's so devastating that the fact that anyone would think it was something to laugh at is really scary to me. You can see the clip on YouTube and decide for yourself, just search "Peter raped by bull"... the comments are mostly from idiots, don't even waste your time. I feel like people, guys especially, don't see the big deal and just think it's funny but I'm really concerned about the direction the writers of Family Guy are going with this whole "sexual assault and violence against women is no big deal and let's joke about it" when they're just making it more acceptable. Your thoughts? And PLEASE, mature people only...seriously. I don't need to hear how awesome Family Guy is - I'm a fan, usually. And I KNOW they're equal-oppurtunity offenders...but shouldn't there should be a line somewhere?
