Just Changed My Honda Civic Hybrid 2008 Oil And The Oil Service Shows That It

How often should I change the oil on my 2008 Honda Civic??

Between 3 and 4 thousand miles. Depending on if you are in stop and go traffic. Check your owners manual. It will give you a maintenence schedule for everything from oil to coolant and transmission filter.

How do you change the clock on a 2007 Honda Civic?

Hold the AM button for 5 seconds, it will start to blink. You can rest the time my using the large channel keys for the radio/cd player. Two of the keys have arrows. One key has a "H" and one key has a "M". H changes the hour and M changes the mintues. Once you have set the time just push the clock button again and you are done.

A mechanic put 5W30 oil in my Civic but 5W20 is the one recommended, it is even written on the oil cap. What should I do?

Nothing.5w30 means the oil is at a 5 weight when cold, and a 30 weight when hot. 30 weight is thicker than 20 weight. What you mechanic did was put slightly heavier oil than what it says on the cap, nothing drastic. He was probably of the mindset of 20 weight is too thin, even if it’s what’s recommended. If your car is saying 5w20, I’m guessing it’s a new(er) car, as that weight is not used in older cars. My 1995 says 10w30, but I’m used to using 10w40. I’ve always felt that that extra weight adds a little protection, even if it has a little more resistance.20 weight just seems a little too thin to many mechanics, as they are used to seeing heavier weights. There is a “balance” here, why not get crazy and use really heavy oil, more protection, right? No. If the oil is too thick it won’t flow right, and it can be like no oil at all. Also if it’s cold the engine won’t be able to turn over- easily. (Cue Heinz Ketchup commercial, and you’ll get what I mean). Also, if you have a car that burns oil, using a heavier weight will burn less oil.Engines have tighter tolerances, as cars have progressed over the years, hence the thinner oil in the newer cars. My 1982 motorcycle takes 10w40, my 2009 Versa takes 10w30 (newest car I own).In summary, this extra weight (20 vs 30) might cost you .05–1 mpg with the heavier resistance, but will protect the engine just the same. It’s not heavy enough to cause a problem.

Can I drive my 2013 Honda Civic on 0% oil life?

The oil life monitor on your car is simply an algorithm created by the manufacturer to estimate when your oil is likely to need changing based on the engine operating conditions, such as number of hours, rpm, and cold starts. The manufacturer will always put some sort of factor of safety in this calculation (perhaps 20% or so) to pretty much guarantee if you change the oil by the time it tells you there's 0% life left that you won't do any damage to your engine. The oil doesn't magically fall apart when the number hits 0%, like Cinderella's coach turning into a pumpkin or anything like that. What this means is that you should get the oil changed as soon as is practical - within 2 or 3 weeks or before any really long trips. The real reason to change your oil - you shouldn't have any metal shavings or chips in it or anything like that because that's what your filter is for - but is because your additive pack is nearly depleted. If you do a used oil analysis this will show up as your TBN - Total Base Number. Your oil has additives in it to neutralize the effects of the acids resulting from the combustion of gasoline.

What happens when I put the wrong oil in my 2012 Honda Civic?

Your Honda uses 0w20 motor oil. This viscosity is only available in a fully synthetic formulation.A lot depends on what viscosity oil you put in your car ….I’m assuming you’ve done this. This is why it is *IMPORTANT* to read your owners manual before you blindly start screwing around with your car.Now. What kind of oil …what viscosity oil …did you put in your car?If, for instance, you used 5w20 or even 5w30 ….things should be okay. But you should really stick with what Honda tells you to use which is 0w20. I know because I have 2012 Accord sitting in the garage. But just to make sure look in the owners manual for your car …you’d be amazed at what all manner of useful information you can find there. On the other hand if you put in 10W30 or 10W40 or, god forbid, 20W50 ….you need to drain this oil and replace it soon …like tomorrow. These oils are waaay too thick for life in a very modern engine. The reason for the very light 0w20 has to do with quick oil flow when the engine is cold …this helps mitigate the highest wear cycle of any engine; the cold start. Modern engines have very tight bearing clearances so they need to use a light oil in order for it to flow easily into these bearings. Heavier weight oils will not flow easily into these tight spaces and you run the risk of premature engine wear. The light 0W20 oil builds oil pressure quicker, flows faster and will reach the nether regions of your engine that much sooner. Plus it saves gas; it takes horsepower to run the oil pump as it tries to move molasses through your motor. The engine in your Honda may use what’s called variable valve timing …a system where the cam timing is adjusted according to what the engine is doing. All you need to know is the engine oil is what makes this system work …kinda like hydraulics …and in order to make the system work correctly the oil cannot be too thick.Like I said, 5w20 or 5w30 shouldn’t cause any issues ….but don’t wait until the oil life monitor tells you to change it …do much sooner. With any of the other oil viscosities I mentioned you need to change it out for the proper stuff ASAP.

2006 honda civic SI 5w30 oil vs 5w20 car experts only?

i own a 2006 honda civic si. i put amsoil dominator 5w20 oil in for my last oil change, but im considering switching that out due to it may or may not harm my engine if i put it under stress. the recommended oil to use is 5w30. i have heard that 5w20 oil will give better gas mileage and more hp, which is so far true because the butt dyno says that theres a little more power. anyway, what should i do, should i switch out to 5w30 to be safe or would i be alright with the 5w20. keep in mind my redline is 8400 rpms and i do track the car every once in a while. please know a thing or two about cars before posting an answer, i would like some facts not opinions.

Honda civic 2008 how do i reset the trip odometer?

get in car.

put keys in ignition

turn key to on postion(if manual u must hold clutch in for it to start)

(release clutch after its started)

u should have 2 trip meters. A and B. if u simply press sel/res button, you will cycle through the different displays, their should be trip A, Trip B, Odometer, Temp, Oil Life percentage. and i think thats all of them..

switch it to either trip A or B(which ever u want to reset)

Hold the sel/res button for about 3 secs. it should beep and reset them to 0

(I have an 08 Civic Si, and i just reset my Trip B using this exact method, so i dont see how it wouldnt work)

unles your trying to reset the oil life percentage? thats a different button combo..

My horn will not work on my Honda Civic 2007?

Hi everyone. My car was broken into a few days ago. The perpetrators disconnected my battery and rummaged through my stuff. Those jerks! My horn has failed to work after this too. I believe they might have disabled it. I had the dealership loosely check the engine for anything out of the ordinary - ripped wires for example. He didn't see anything. I checked the fuse box below the wheel. My brother claims that "all fuse boxes have a cover." Mine has none. Which I suspect they messed with. (They seemed to be professionals - breaking in 15 cars at my complex) However, I checked the panel description and nothing seemed missing and nothing seemed connected to the horn. This might be because I'm not an auto technician, however. While my insurance agency is paying for everything, I would rather be proactive and find the problem myself IF I can. It will also divert a potentially hefty reimbursed repair bill. ($100 an hour diagnostics, YUCK!)

Does anyone have any idea that I can check or what could have been messed with?

What type of oil does 2008 honda civic take?

It's listed on your oil cap, 5W30
