Kansai-ben, Osaka-ben, Kyoto-ben?
Osaka-ben and Kyoto-ben are very different. The word "Kansai-ben" is often used as the same with Osaka-ben. So it generally means Osaka-ben. If you want to have some examples, In Osaka-ben, "ya" is sometimes put at the end of sentence. In Kyoto-ben, "yasu" is sometimes put at the end. We say "gomen" for "I'm sorry" in standard Japanese. About osaka ben/kansai dialect?
a friend of mine from Kyoto would say these; uchi = watashi (female) ookini = arigatou se-hen = shinai homma? = hontou? ee-yan-ka = iija nai nan-de-ya-nen? (stress on 'de') = doushite? *She was insisting that Kyoto-ben is different from Osaka-ben (....;) ------ but I think the above is also used in Osaka
Is it important to learn Kansai dialect if I want to study in Osaka?
No. You want to avoid dialects and speak standard Japanese which is closest to the Kanto dialect. Focus your effort on speaking that well. It won’t hurt to learn the Kansai dialect vocabulary so you understand it if you are based in Osaka, but focus on standard Japanese first.I love the sound of Kansai-ben. It’s warmer and more personable than standard Japanese. But it just sounds weird when foreigners speak it.The same is true of English. If you are studying British or American English, learn the standards and avoid dialects.
How do I learn Kyoto-ben?
Make a friend from Kyoto and ask for a list of phrases and words.Try this is moderation.Keep in mind: Kyoto-jin are viewed as two-faced and stuck up to Osakans and Kobe-Jin. Don't practice your Kyoto-Ben in the wrong place.Just learn a little Kansai-Ben but don't overdo it.Foreigners who try to lay on the Kansai-Ben extra thick end up sounding like the Osakan grandpa from some anime. How would you react if a newly arrived Chinese man used “Hee-Haw” or Country TV to learn English? Come to think of it.. That sounds kind of cool! :P

If you don't know what Kansai Dialect is, its spoken in areas such as Osaka, Kyoto, Wakayama, Nara, etc. I need help finding a website that teaches Kansai Dialect. I know a few Kansai phrases like, akan- do not. really- honmoni. iiyo- thats ok. thats close- oshii, etc. So does anyone know any good sites?
What is the meaning of "yarahatta" in Japanese (Kansai-ben)?
"hatta" is a honorific suffix. "yarahatta" = yaru(do) + hatta Note: "i + hatta" is used often in Osaka area, while "a + hatta" in Kyoto area. ex. "yarihatta" v.s. "yarahatta" In the standard Japanese: けれども、あの新聞記者のおばさんもなさったと、旅館の人が言っていたよ keredomo, ano shinbunkisha no obasan mo nasatta to, ryokan no hito ga itte ita yo The person in the inn said that that press woman also had done it.
