How can I put together a Katniss Everdeen costume?
Great idea, if you already have brown hair this will be great! If you want to look like Katniss during the games heres what I suggest: A black or forest green v-neck A black or brown (waterproof jacket) Green cargo pants(marshalls has really nice ones for $10) Rain or combat boots Put your hair in a braid Add a few scars and cuts (maybe not if you want to look cute) Carry a backpack like her wear a black belt Go to the halloween/dollar/party store and buy arrows Buy a mocking jay pin from some store lke Hot topic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS4od8p3NoE <-- this video is great and wear minimal makeup you prob. dont need nail polish but I'd go with a clearcoat or a china glaze nail polish since they have a hunger games collection. Where in the book does it describe Katniss' braid as a side braid?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it never says in the book if she has a side braid or not. It always says "I put my hair up in my usual braid" but it never specifies. In the movie, her hair is a side braid, most of the time. In the reapings its a back braid, but in all the pictures it's a side braid and I believe in the Games they are side braids.

Should Hunger Games be a YA book when the gore would compete with books from Scott Sigler or Stephen King? ;-) Can you compare it to "Battle Royal"? Or The Running Man You could see how many people you upset by saying so in the future the Ozarks don't change much or maybe she is from the Appalachians ( I'n not sure if my answer helps)

I really like the raven idea, I think that would be cool. If you want something relatively easy, dress in a long dress or skirt and long sleeves that cover your arms, a bonnet and a big red felt "A" on your chest- unmistakably Hester Prynne, and you'll impress your teacher. Have fun!
What are some ideas for other Quarter Quells in The Hunger Games?
Here are some ideas:1. No random lottery drawing. Instead, someone from each District must volunteer to be a tribute. If no one from a District volunteers within a certain amount of time, the District gets punished. The more time goes by without a volunteer, the worse the punishments get -- e.g. after an hour, a few people get beaten by the Peacekeepers; after two hours, someone is executed; after 6 hours or some other limit, the District gets firebombed.2. Each tribute gets randomly paired with a tribute from another District and they must work as a team. If one dies, the other is automatically killed by the Gamekeepers. The last two tributes face off against each other.3. The Hunger Games meets WWE Royal Rumble: Instead of everyone starting together, two random tributes start and another one enters the arena every 3 hours until they are all in.4. The Survivor Games: Instead of killing each other, the tributes compete in various challenges and hold "tribal councils" to vote on who gets killed off.4a. Hunger Idol: Same as #4, except the viewers in the Capitol do the voting.5. Add a secret exit from the arena, with clues to its location scattered throughout. First tribute to find it automatically wins, the rest get blown to smithereens.
