Will a week of not exercising make me fat?

Bodies burn about 1500 to 2000 calories per day just off the basic functions of life, like breathing, keeping your core temperature at 98.6, blinking, and so on. This is your basal metabolic rate. You can calculate it at IIFYM  As long as you're eating fewer calories than your body burns you could actually lose weight. The main benefits of exercise aren't limited to weight management but also include improved mood, improved thinking, cardiovascular and joint health, and of course muscle tone.

Does riding a horse count as cardio exercise?

Just using your brain to solve a problem burns calories. But cardio exercise requires a sustained elevation in your pulse and respiratory rates, and a particular type of energy expenditure that horseback riding in itself is not likely to accomplish. If all you are really asking is whether you can burn calories by riding, then the answer is yes.
Add....riding is more of a core strength training exercise than an aerobic exercise. Cardio is aerobic exercise.

How do you knock off 200 pounds of weight off a horse?

I wouldn`t give your horse any grain as that can be fattening and she probably doesn`t need it as she sounds like a "Good Doer" - meaning she could live off fresh air and not lose any condition/keep her weight on!

Give her carrots/apples a day as a treat if you want?

Start riding her in walk, doing lots and lots of hillwork so as not to strain her legs too much to begin with. After 2 weeks introduce her with some short trots, again hillwork. After about 4 to 5 weeks introduce cantering but keep them quite short to start with and canter gently up a gradual slope. Build her up over the weeks and trot/canter up hills for longer periods of time. After 8 weeks she should be fairly fit.

Keep riding her every day but give her a day off in the week. Also, start with riding her for an hour and then build up to 2 hours a day if you can. The longer the better.

I would still feed her fibre i.e. Hay or grass as they are essential for their health and wellbeing. Just cut out the hard feed/grain as she sounds like she doesn`t need it. Lunging is ok if you haven`t got the time on a short-term basis but i wouldn`t do it very often as it can put a lot of strain on the horses legs and tendons.

Before you know it, she would have lost the extra weight and built up some muscle and tightened up her belly area too! Best of luck!

Why should you keep your heels down when riding a horse?

As others said, heels down, or all of your weight somehow pushing down your heels, isn’t the goal. But it is one analogy that riding instructors might use to remind students to be cognizant of their posture on horseback. You will hear many similar analogies, if you spend much time in the horse world. Some examples I can think of right now are, ‘elastic’ elbows, ‘quiet’ hands, and a ‘deep’ seat. While none of them is meant to be taken literally, they are all important concepts. Your instructor might say, “heels down” to help you bring your upper body back, and stop pushing down with your toes. The student rider’s legs and upper body frequently push forward, as if they were sitting on a bench, and leaning forward. The instructor might suggest, ‘sit up’ and ‘bring your legs back’. As their leg comes under them, students frequently press their toes down. That’s a normal reaction to anxiety about having something - like a big ol’ horse and a hard saddle - under some of your most delicate areas. But correct posture will help you be more comfortable, and makes riding safer. When you get it right, and your body weight is jostled up and down by the horse, your heel can rise and fall with the motion, behind the stirrup, creating a nice cushiony support for the weight of your hip, thigh and leg. The angle of your pelvis and your straight, supple spine, flex to keep your seat comfortable. One great indicator for how your posture is working, is the hollow of your neck. When we are standing, the hollow of our neck is always above our center of gravity. So if you have acquired a well balanced position on your horse, the hollow of your neck will be on a vertical plane aligned to pass through your tailbone, and your achiles tendon will be along that same plane. It should be easy to simply push down with your thighs and feet in order to stand above the horse - without leaning forward, or pulling yourself up.Most of the ability to stay on the horse comfortably, while it moves, requires overcoming the forces that send your body up and forward. A ‘heels-down’ posture (a balanced, vertical, flexible posture) helps your spine and leg (including your ankle and foot) absorb - rather than be catapulted by - the horse’s movement.
