What are some good movies for kids 10-14?

A question for the kids from the 1950s/60s? What did you do in your spare time?
I wanted to picture what a kid's (or teenager's) life was like back then because I wanted to write a story based during around that time. So I was wondering if any of you could help me out. What did you do for your hobbies? What did you do with your friends? And what was your neighborhood like? Where you from the city/suburbs/countryside? Girl or boy? What country? Parents, do you let your kids watch tv?
My kids are not allowed to watch TV Monday through Thursday. They can watch Friday evening until Sunday evening. It all must be age appropriate. When my oldest was younger, the TV was a built in babysitter. I have since seen the error of my ways and strictly limit the amount of TV that they are allowed to watch. The only exception to the rule of watching during the week is if they have to watch something like the presidential debate or something like that for a class assignment. The same rules apply for the computer or video games. The computer may be used to do research for an assignment though. I don't neccessarily think that even educational TV makes them any smarter than their counterparts that don't watch TV or don't watch educational TV. If a child has a desire to learn they will learn. My kids love learning about animals and spend a lot of time learning about them through books and asking questions. The don't have to watch animal planet to get the information, it can be found in a million other ways.
Any one know any good movies on human evolution?
Just watched a couple with my kid on Netflix, he seems really interested in the topic. Anyone know any on human evolution or evolution in general? Please don't suggest "Journey of men" or "what makes us human." As he's watched both, thanks.
