Kindle Voyage Preorder Question

Do you regret buying a Kindle?

Yes, About 1%.I bought a Kindle Paperwhite in the recent Amazon Sale.I got a great deal actually.I got the 11K device in just about 8K. I waited for some months to get a deal like this. Why did I not opt for basic Kindle? I will explain. This is the basic Kindle. It costs about 6K Rupees. It also has a 6″ inch display. The only cons,No built-in light or backlight. So you can’t read on this in a completely dark environment(can’t help such scenarios while traveling). You will always need a secondary light source to read the content.Screen Resolution is only 167 ppi (paperwhite has 300 ppi). Hence there is definitely some pixelation.Hence I waited for months for Paperwhite to be on discount. And when I did, I did not wait a second before ordering it.Here she is,I was more than happy to get one finally. But I got served a slight blot of disappointment on that happiness. I even replaced the paperwhite for a new one. The picture is of the replacement. So why did I replace it? Because I first thought I had received a defective piece. But alas, I searched it on the internet and came to know about a design fault in the Kindle Paperwhite.I will explain.See this,The backlight of Paperwhite is created by these 4 LEDs. Fine. Great. But they also create an unwanted wavy, dark line at the bottom of the Paperwhite. Each and every piece made. For clarity see these images,While on the commercial photo displayed, Amazon has clearly hidden this design flaw.Though I like the concept of saving paper, space and carrying thousands of books with me anywhere, but even after paying almost $150 for this device, I have to live with a design flaw, helplessly.Because I simply like the concept of a Kindle.Though I have learnt to ignore it, it doesn't feel the same when you had so much to expect in the first place. And, now, showing off my awesome Kindle cover before signing off :PFYI, the design I chose for cover is a very famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh called “Starry Night”.Image/s :My phone‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’ by Mark MansonAmazon India

Why are books I ordered from Amazon not showing up in my Kindle library?

There may be a number of reasons for this, but it should be easy to resolve. I’d suggest the following troubleshooting steps:Check that your Kindle device is registered to the correct Amazon account (ie. to the account where the books were ordered on). You can do that either by signing into that account on the Amazon website and going to “Your content and devices” and then to the “your devices” tab. You should see your Kindle there if it is registered to that account. I suggest you then also check your orders on that account (or your content) to make sure that the books were indeed ordered on that same account. You can also check the registration on the device itself. How you get there depends on the type of Kindle, but generally the path should be something like: Home > Menu > Settings > My Account > Registration. The email address and password used to register the device should be the same as that of the Amazon account (NB. you’ll see the email address but you may not be able to see the password). If the device is registered to the correct account then you just have to access the content you’ve ordered. On the device you can choose to either view what’s on the device, or what’s in the cloud. “Cloud” just refers to all the content you’ve purchased on your Amazon account. “Device” refers to all the content you’ve already downloaded onto your device from the cloud. So, if you don’t see the book in “device” then tap over to “cloud” and you should see it there. Then you simply tap the book and it should download to your Kindle. If you’ve checked the registration on the device itself and confirmed that the email address is correct, but you still don’t find the books in “cloud”, then it’s possible that you have more than one Amazon account with the same email address (but different passwords). So the Kindle device is registered to one account, but the books are orders on the other account. To confirm this, sign in on the website and check “your devices” and “your content” (or your orders). If this indeed is the issue, then you should contact Amazon customer service for help. In many cases they may even refund the books on one account so that you can re-order them on the correct account.

What are the differences between the Kindle, the Kindle Voyage, the Kindle Paperwhite, and the Kindle XHD?

You cannot use a Kindle in the dark. It's exactly like a book in terms of readability. Great in sunlight, great in reasonably lit spaces indoor. If you want to read at night, you must turn on a light, or use a a clip on light. Something like this:The Kindle Paperwhite is a more expensive device that has a built in frontlight that lets you read in the dark without hurting your eyes like your phone or tab's backlight does. And all the way up the price spectrum, we have the Kindle Voyage. This device has a light sensor that automatically adjusts the screen's brightness as per the ambient light. It uses the same frontlight technology as the Kindle Paperwhite of course, which is no strain on the eyes. Read all night long, and the only problem for your eyes will be the lack of sleep. And oh, the Voyage also has buttons that you can use to turn the page. This is in addition to the usual Kindle touchscreen. All 3 devices come in WiFi only and WiFi+3G versions. That's it. No other differences.

Why doesn't the Kindle display book cover images?

I don't know why that happens, but this does occur on my Kindle Fire.Especially for personal books transferred to Kindle device or Kindle app. I prefer to read books with nice covers thus I tried to work it out with free Calibre. When adding the Kindle book to Calibre, click "Edit metadata" button to reset the cover. When it's done, add the new version to Calibre again and convert to Kindle MOBI again (the same as the original format). This is a little odd, but works well.Source:How to change Kindle book cover
