Laptop Under Performs And Shuts Off Unexpectedly

My laptop shuts off at 40% battery without warning?

Hi den!z,

If you are using Windows 7, right-click the battery icon in the lower right-hand corner, click Extended Battery Life Options and click the Battery Health tab.

If you get any message other than -Your battery is performing normally, the battery needs to be replaced.

Also, remove the battery and use the laptop only on AC adapter. If the system shuts down, connect the AC adapter to a known good power outlet and check the status of power LED on AC Adaptor. If the LEDs on the AC adapter is on, but the system still shuts down, check the AC adapter and system power port for any damage.

You may try with a different good known compatible AC adapter.

Windows 7 Power Options provides the option to set the percentage at which the battery should show up as low or critical.
The setting also has an option as per how the system needs to react at Critical Power Level, when operating in Battery.

To set the battery notification in Windows 7, follow the steps mentioned below:

1.Click on Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
2.On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings.
3.On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings.
4.On the Advanced settings tab, expand Battery, expand Low battery level, Reserve battery level, and Critical battery level. Change the percentage of battery remaining that you want for each level, and then click OK.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards

Why does my Acer Nitro 5 laptop randomly shut off?

My suggestion is to immediately clean the cooling exhaust system and apply new CPU heat sink paste (disassembly required & clean old cpu paste and don’t leave any Arctic Silver on the microcircuitry since you only need a small amount). It isn’t rocket science but a few techniques, tools and patience will be needed.Watch some youtube videos on that machine and process of doing such. Check your video card with free software to test its performance and get a free app to watch and log your temperatures and voltages to the CPU & Vid card, perhaps an App to increase fan speed. You may want to consider Upgrading your video card rather than replacing with same if indeed this is the issue which will likely be the case if your cooling system is working properly and there isn’t a poor connection to your charger or charge port system causing power spikes. Test it with a replacement charger and inspect charge port on your laptop where it is prone to issues with any laptop, May only need a simple solder repair, or to replace a charge port ribbon & port. Hard to say without taking it apart and inspection. Some without skills and simple tools (and patience) may find someone on local Kijiji or Craigs list to do this for you for a fair price but beware of scammers and over-priced shops - Always get a phone number and address. Safest really is to do it yourself but that isn’t reasonable for everyone but is only a 2 on the scale of 1 to 10 in difficulty.

Acer laptop shut off and won't turn back on?

My Acer Aspire (5250-BZ455) randomly turned off a few weeks ago and ever since then, despite my attempts, it simply will not turn back on.\

The adapter light (green) will turn on when it's plugged into the wall, and the orange charging light will also come on when the adapter is inserted into the laptop. Once the light turns blue (indicating the laptop is charged), the computer just will not start. I don't understand what's going on, or how I can fix it myself (I am under a lot of financial difficulty and cannot pay to have it professionally diagnosed). Help, please?

Sidenote: What I have tried was taking out the battery, unplugging the power cord, and holding the power button down for 30 seconds. Plugging the power back in and trying to turn the laptop on, but all this is to no avail.

Is it okay if I fold the laptop without shut down?

If you are using Windows OS then you can find something called Power options(You can find it by searching power options in start menu) and select  Choose What Closing the Lid Does from the left pane and there will be 3 options Shut Down - which clearly shuts your laptop down. No Functionalities will be active, No need to worry about heating.Hibernate -  This is the best if you ask me because the Hibernate mode saves your open documents and running applications to your hard disk and shuts down the computer, which means once your computer is in Hibernate mode, it uses zero power. Once the computer is powered back on, it will resume everything where you left off. Of course this is best if you want save battery life.Sleep - Sleep mode is a power-saving state that is similar to pausing a DVD movie. All actions on the computer are stopped and any open documents and applications are put in memory. You can quickly resume normal, full-power operation within a few seconds. Sleep mode is basically the same thing as “Standby” mode. This is best if you want to use it again after a few minutes.Do Nothing - yeah it does nothing as it says so. The best thing is you can vary these options according to your need that is when the device is charging then you can choose any of the above options, I'd prefer with sleep in this case. when it is not connected to power then you can choose hibernate(unless you want to use it after a few minutes).Coming to your question "folding it cover then will it harm my laptop?" Yeah it will if you select do nothing option. No it will not, If you select hibernate or sleep option.Hope this helps.

What is wrong with my laptop that suddenly shut off without warning?

How does it shut off?I had a desktop that would all of a sudden just shut down like you clicked ‘shut down’ and nothing you could do but power back up. Turns out it was simply a bad power switch. If you hit the switch on a Windows computer it will shut down.If it just instantly turns off, that could be numerous things. Obviously power is failing somewhere. It may be something like a failing capacitor. Laptops are very hard to work on. Somebody hands me a laptop I shake my head no and hand it back to them. But there are, perhaps, things you can try. That is to remove everything that is removable and re-seat them and see if you have any difference. If you want to clean parts, including RAM, take some WD40 and Q-Tips and you can use that to clean the contacts. I live in very salty air and I have to do this with all my electronics and it does work very well at cleaning and protecting.Just wipe the contacts and set it aside for a little while and let it dry. WD40 doesn’t allow electricity to flow. But you don’t want to put everything back in your PC dripping wet either. A little film is OK to help protect.

Why is my laptop shutting down every time I Play a game?

See the reason for this is definitely not your battery being dead. When a normal battery gets fully charged, the computer automatically makes the connection direct. This is just happening all the time in your case. One problem can be that your Graphics memory is going out of range else your RAM is going out of range. This can be confirmed if you see a blue screen showing memory dump. The second reason can be overheating. You said you have a Dell laptop. So, when you start your system, go to the Dell System test and do a stress test. Then you'll know what is the max level of heat your laptop is reaching. If it goes over 95 degree C, you must contact Dell.I don't see any third reason behind this.
