Learning To Play The Game Of Basketball

What can you learn from watching a basketball game on tv?

your correct the best thing you can notice is defense. Watch how they play help and rotate. A good thing to do is to key in on one really good player and see what she is doing at all times. You can pick up on why she just did what she did or what she should've or could've done right there. If you play post you can learn alot by keying in o both offense and defense. I like watching the point gaurds handle the ball under pressure as well and how they pick and choose when and whre to make a play

Should I start to learn to play Basketball?

If you have free time to devote to practicing, you should try it out. Otherwise I think you shouldn't. Height alone won't do it anymore. The game is evolving everyday. Kids are able to do so much more at younger ages now a days. It comes from their desire to work on their game. If you don’t really want to play you'll be wasting your valuable time that could be used elsewhere. If you’re interested in possibly earning a full ride and getting a free education, you should give it shot. What's the worste that can happen. You could get in really good shape, develop teamwork and leadership skills. Lastly you could fail. If you don't try you'll get that last result as well as far as basketball goes. Much more upset to trying!

Is it too late to start playing basketball for me?

Even though I have been watching college basketball,NBA,and high school basketball for around 3 years,I have never really given basketball a chance.I mean,I've played it before but nothing serious.Just group games with friends at the school playground or at the park.Despite my size,6'2'',every time we used to play unorganized ball in the playground,my friends would tease me for missing easy layups and mid-range or point blank shots. In fact, they would call me "Shaq",because of my knack for rebounding and as well as for my knack for missing easy layups or shots. This was almost 3 years ago,and I was around 5'11'' back then.(though once again,I mainly blame my lack of maturity for missing those shots, coupled with the fact that I was being serious while playing). This all changed however, when I began rapidly maturing(thanks in fact to the sudden death of my grandma, the person who pretty much raised me). That and other struggles that have shaped me into a man.Anyway, due to my maturity,my game started blooming.I wasn't scared to drive in and get a well-focused layup, and my mid-range game has grown tremendously.I have also learned how to shoot the three, thanks in part practice. So here I am now, having just turned 17 on the 14th,in 10th grade and standing at 6'2''(Im 6'4'' with my Nike Uptempos on).I have found confidence in myself to play the game, and I have also grown a deep passion for it.There is just one problem -- I dont know if Im too old to play basketball next year in my school's varsity team.I can certainly shoot and drive for the layup,as well as know just about every aspect of the game,I have a decent dribble, but I need help with my crossovers and having confidence that defender cant stop me.I do have, however, one thing that very few players my age have:passion, focus, determination, and maturity to lead a team. That is why next year will either make me or brake me.That's why next year I need to make sure that I match all of my coaches standards and demands,if I get selected to play basketball.Do you think Im still in time to fix my game and be someone?

PS:Im really sorry for the long rant.I didnt mean it to be like this.

How can I learn to LOVE basketball?

Is 14 years old too old to start playing basketball?

you can start any sport at any age. i didn't start playing soccer until high school. softball then basket ball was my sport. I also Picked up golf in 9th fgrade.

Start with some drills either looks some up on the internet or do
dripple back and forth the length of the court. First go at a small pace until you get a ahndle on the ball and then slowly up your speed until you finally good a good feel for it.

also my dad use to blind fold me and had me tripple like that. it helps you practive keeping your head up then on the ball.

shooting I would start close and shoot until you make like 10 in a row and then take a step bac. take make another ten and go ntl you're at the three point line.

Practive Pratice pratice! It was drilled into me as a kid not matter what sport I played. good uck. If you need any answers about the sprots let me know I've been playing since I've been ten so i've been plaing ti for 12 years.
