Leaving The Army And Would Like To Become A Gas Fitter

How is being a Master At Arms?

If you enlist in the Navy and pick the MA rate you will begin your journey in bootcamp. Once you complete that you will go to A School.

Think of the MA A School as going to a police academy. You will learn all the basics of law enforcement, security, anti terrorism and force protection. Students will learn how to control subjects, unarmed self defense, weapons skills, report writing, military law, patrol tactics, breaching, and yes you will be sprayed with OC. After you get sprayed, you will have wished for going through the gas chamber instead, but you will be ok.

Once you graduate from A School you will then be assigned to a command. This could be either on a ship or at a shore station but more likely than not will be a shore station. Once you arrive at your new command you will most likely go through yet another mini police/force protection academy. Then your first assignment will be of the least glamorous jobs available. You will have to put in your time doing the boring jobs. Once you put in your time and gain experience and rank you will get better assignments and opportunities for advanced training in C Schools where you can become an investigator,
K-9, Corrections Afloat, or a multitude of different specialties.

In your career you may do law enforcement, corrections, anti terrorism, force protection, security, patrols, investigations, court security in court martials, captains masts, etc. The opportunities are endless.

All in all, you will learn how to be a cop and when you decide to leave the Navy, you will be in an excellent position to get hired by a civilian police department.

Basic training questions - Women only please...?

I'm thinking about joining the National Guard but I'm not exactly the 'military' type... I'm a hairstylist but unfortunately stumbled into some legal trouble and think this would be the best way to pay my fines and get back on my feet. I have a few questions/concerns about basic training... Mostly, when showering, I know there is limited space/privacy/time, and being a gal who likes to stay 'groomed', will I have the opportunity/time to keep myself shaved? Not only am I concerned about having hairy legs, showering when I am not quite 'up to date' on the grooming process is a tad bit freaky to me... I was planning on getting waxed before leaving but it only lasts so long, you know?
Is there anything else I should know? I understand that the process will be a very trying and difficult one but I am not worried about that aspect of it... I've been preparing for the physical requirements and what not... I'm just worried about the things they don't tell you about and the answers my male enlister wasn't able to provide me with...
Can anyone help prepare me for the feminine side of basic training?

What happens in army basic training?

You will do push-ups, running, sit-ups, lunges, side straddle hop (jumping jack) and lots of other exercises.

In RED phase, weeks 1-2, soldiers begin the process of becoming a Soldier; learning the Army values; work on physical fitness; learn about communications, basic first aid, map reading, and the military justice system. They also practice drill and ceremony and negotiate Victory Tower. Before moving to the next phase, soldiers must successfully complete a knowledge and skills test.

Weeks 3-5, WHITE phase, soldiers continue Army values and physical fitness. Much of this phase is spent learning, practicing and qualifying on the M16A2 rifle. They will also learn about other U.S. military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training. Soldiers will participate in the obstacle course, gas chamber and bayonet assault course and pass another knowledge and skills test.

The BLUE phase, weeks 6-9, in addition to Army values and physical fitness this phase includes individual tactical techniques, foot marches, confidence course, and obstacle course. The culmination of basic training is Victory Forge, a 7-day field training exercise combining all previously taught basic combat skills. Soldiers march ten kilometers to their designated training site to start the exercise, occupy the position and establish a defense perimeter. On subsequent days, Soldiers complete the Teamwork Reaction Course, execute tactical exercise lanes and a night tactical and live-fire exercises. The last night includes a return march to the unit area and a ceremony recognizing the successful completion of this challenging operation - and the final transformation as a Soldier in the world's finest Army.

Questions about going into Air Force as the Open Electrical Aptitude Area?

They'll glance at your top picks but do not rely on that, I was guaranteed my AFSC because I was able to receive a slot for it. However, seeing how high your overall score is you might actually have a good percentage of receiving your top 5 jobs. It doesn't technically put you over someone else. Since you don't ship out till later this month, it isn't too late to see if your recruiter has any openings for the following AFSC's you want because going open is a gamble and often times people cannot crosstrain out of their primary AFSC's.

Higher score only means more options, but those can be closed off if you don't meet certain requirements etc. During BMT you'll have a chance to look at the general scope of your actual AFSC, usually around the 6th week of training. The AF will go by what is needed, and a lot of electrical jobs are open at this time.
