It depends on the lawyer and the practice area. As a legal ethics attorney, I normally will have a quick, and I mean quick, call on the phone with potential clients to determine if they should come in for a formal consultation. I also want to run a conflict check. If we move on to a formal consultation or they come in to see me, I charge for the consultation. The charge is the same as I charge for one hour of my time, but I will allow the consultation to continue past an hour. If the person retains me and I expect the matter to be lengthy, I put the original one hour fee towards my retainer. In other words, people who retain me for a matter that will be more than a couple of hours, get a free consultation.If I am talking to someone about a legal malpractice case, the consultation is free. The same goes for all of the lawyers in my firm, who handle personal injury cases of various types. That is, car accidents, medical malpractice cases and so on. I doubt you would find a personal injury lawyer in the US who would charge a consultation fee. The reason for this is that these cases are handled on contingency, i.e. the lawyer only gets a fee if he wins the case.Most family law attorneys that I know will not offer a free consultation. This is to stop people from wasting their time, or to stop those who are getting consultations simply to prevent the soon to be ex spouse from hiring any of the lawyers in town by creating a conflict.Other types of lawyers really vary. Some charge a lesser fee than the usual hour fee, even something along the lines of $25-$50, because it really does dissuade people who are looking for free advice. Others charge a full fee for the time spent with the clients. The only way to know for sure is to ask the lawyer before the consultation.

In USA, I believe that the IRS is the last organization that one would want to mess with.If you can’t get an opportunity in your circle, you can always try local stores and businesses. It’s the elephant in the room. No need to act as if it doesn’t exist.Most businesses in all the major cities like NY has employees without papers. Or people use someone else’s identity for tax purposes. However, you should also consider that people around you or colleagues who don’t like you can always report you. This way you might end up doing some prison time before being deported.My best suggestion would be this person should find a way to turn their status to “legal” one way or another. Otherwise, this will cause trouble in the future. Most likely, it will happen right at the moment that person says “I have everything sorted out”.It’s a better way to ask “how can I become legal?” in the first place. Because most Democrats support immigration, and specifically illegal immigration. ICE detains and deports illegals that the mayor would rather keep in the city.It has often been said that illegals will do jobs that “lazy Americans” won’t do. But is a form of forced labor. These immigrants need money to survive, and they cannot work through legal channels without a legitimate Social Security card and a valid state-issued ID, birth certificate, or passport. So some Americans use that as a way to get workers and pay them far less than they would have to pay to hire a legal American. But the workers don’t complain about the wages because even the lowest paying American job will translate to living like a king to their families back in Mexico.If people do not like our current immigration law, they have a duty to change or abolish it. ICE has no choice but to uphold current law, so getting angry about the detainees and deportations and blaming ICE does not help.Atlanta is a hub of child traffickers and is an issue far more important than stopping ICE from doing their job.The mayor is apparently unconcerned for the welfare of the children who are taken by traffickers. People who vote in Atlanta and care about children should remember this at election time.

Just don’t give them your name and tell them you want to remain anonymous.At a certain level in gravity of the circumstances, I’d also be cautious about what means you use to communicate with them. If you are seriously concerned about your identity being discovered then it’s better to take unnecessary proactive measures than it is to try to implement them once they've become necessary.Normally, I wouldn’t have much concern that law enforcement would backtrack your report to figure out who you are but I’m guessing it’s a pretty serious issue if you’re thinking the FBI would be concerned (it’s pretty unlikely they’ll do anything unless it’s something impossible to ignore).By remaining anonymous you aren’t going to give them very much to work with. Even if you’re reporting something really serious, the fact that you refuse any accountability for the information creates a really shakey foundation to premise a serious investigation on.The fact that they can’t even prove you exist means that basically anything you tell them will have to be discovered by some means that is totally independent of your report to them. In some cases that might be impossible. In any case it’s gonna require a lot more time and resources than it otherwise might if you just went on record.It’s very unlikely to be the case but I have to imagine that if knowing your identity was somehow critical to national security, they wouldn’t have a lot of options. They would have to weigh the potential consequences of doing nothing against those for betraying your confidence.Mostly, I think you should just go on record and report the information you have.
