Which is better, Dell Inspiron 11, HP x360 11.6 or Lenovo Yoga 11? Why?

I'm gonna take 1 laptop from each of the model range you specified (do correct me if I've mentioned a device that you've previously ruled out):HP Spectre x360 13-4007na Laptop (Core i7 5th Gen/8 GB/512 GB SSD/Windows 8 1)Lenovo Ideapad Yoga Y 11 (Tegra Quad Core/2 GB/64 GB SSD/Windows RT)Dell 11 3148 (Core I3 4th Gen/4 GB/500 GB/Windows 8 1)HPPros:Ideal for portable performance. It  has a good integrated GPU.The lightest option.Amazing display resolution but,***A convertible for work, home and play.Cons:Very expensive***The screen resolution will eat into the battery and drain quickly.LenovoPros:Ideal for its graphics performance.Cons:It runs on Windows RT.Not worth its price.DellPros:Ideal for portable performance at work or home.It comes with a decent integrated GPU.Can add another 4gb whenever you desire.Screen resolution is ideal for the battery size.Relatively decent touch experience. The cheapest and durable option.Cons:It's got an i3 4th gen which restricts the graphic options for this device. You can't game on this device if you wish it to last beyond the warranty period. My Recommendation:HP and Lenovo don't compare to the value for money option offered by their competitor. Only if you've got the spare change for the HP splash it. Consider the Lenovo as a light gaming option. Dell will stand by your side through many storms for the next 3-4 years (just don't game with the Dell option).PS. If you've got a different model variant do post it here. Then we can break it down.

Why do people still hate Microsoft? Recently, they released Surface Studio and the Surface line of products which are as good as the iPads and MacBooks. Why don't people give them a chance?

Things change. The Surface books do not compare to Macbook Pro machines, the Surfaced Studio was a very interesting machine but it is so under powered and expensive that it is just crazy. The Microsoft people hate is the old Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer company. The company that called Linux a communistic cancer among other issues. The company that put good companies under just because they wanted to, the company that crushes allies as enemy's.Microsoft today is a 180 degree change, it is so different, they even have a github page with whole programming languages as open source with a license they can’t take back. They accept peoples push requests. They love Linux today, they actually say that out loud. The company with Sadya Natella is so different.I like them now, a lot. I stopped using Windows unless for gaming in around 1999–2000 completely. I never need to use Microsoft office but I do sometimes. I keep up with changes and know things but Windows just never did anything for me.I bought the Surface RT and RT 2 and really liked those machines and hated for the lock down for no reason. I own surface 3 now and people really like it. You don’t compare it to an iPad, they are real computers that are awesome, they do cost too much in my opinion.I am now a Windows 10 user, I even do C# and MS SQL development, picture that. If someone had suggested that 3 years ago to me, I would have told them they were crazy. But Windows 10 has gotten so much better, so much faster than anything else. Linux as a workstation is at the exact same place it was in 2000, no better, no worse. Mac OS X seems to get no attention from Apple and it shows. The once thriving indie developer scene is mostly dead now for some reasons.I think the people you hear from are just stuck in their old ways. I really like Microsoft, A LOT. Even Azure is awesome. Their Xbox is awesome. They are doing a lot of fantastic things, and the Windows economy is awesome. Being able to buy a 16 core 32 thread AMD Threadripper and just run Windows and it works, macOS just does not get it. They can take the hugely expensive XeonW and stick them where the sun does not shine, I am not paying $5–10 thousand dollars for a computer, no way. The option not to do that is awesome. There you go. I am a microsoft convert.

Would you substitute pen and paper for taking notes with an iPad Pro/Surface Pro?

I’ve been in love with stylus / touch based computing since my Palm Pilot and original WinCE iPaq.Compaq T1000, ThinkPad convertible tablet PCs, a Surface Pro and now an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil.Even a Livescribe. What works best? What do I use now?A knock off Moleskine XL and a mechanical pencil. Why?It’s fast, silent, high res, light and amazing battery life. The chronological page based system makes it easy and faster to find things than digital search. I just write the date, time and location at the top of every page. The tap tap of a stylus on a hard screen is just too distracting in an internal meeting or a client workshop. When I need to save something I just take a quick picture of the page with my iPhone and send it to Evernote in the same way I take a picture of a whiteboard we’ve been working on.I tried a Livescribe pen and notebook (with sync back to Evernote) but I really did not like writing and sketching with a ball point pen. I prefer a pencil, fine liner or a fountain pen. I also found I was saving a lot of notes I really did not need to keep for the long term. When I want to share something I write it up on my MacBook Pro either as a confluence page or an email and then email it to the team and Evernote. This way I’m sharing considered information and I can find it in Gmail and Evernote if I ever need to refer to it.

What is better for a computer science student, a MacBook Pro or a Surface Book?

If I would be in computer science, I would buy a laptop that I can:repair, expand, configurehas good keyboard to type a lothas good Fn and other special keys for codingI understand the operating system doesn’t matter for you - in case you would need an Apple machine, your choice is obvious.Hardware wise:Both laptops score 1/10 on repairability on ifixit, so basically I cannot repair anything without damaing.Compare Mac modelsMicrosoft Surface Book 2 TeardownBoth came with small SSDs (unless I pay fortunes), which are not possible to upgrade by me, or difficult. However right after buying I would upgrade myself both the ram and ssd, which is not really an option for either of these. The MacBook Pro has a touchbar, this won't be useful for me, I use the Fn keys a lot, I mean a lot.I would use the battery a lot, and to keep a good battery life, after 1–1.5 years, I would exchange the battery.I find the keyboard on both machines OK, but not outstandingThe price is similar of the two machines.I would use many peripherials which come with USB ports. All in all, as a Computer Science student, neither of the two is appealing for me. If I would need to buy Apple, then there’s not much choice, there’s only the Macbook Pro. If I have the choice to buy a Windows machine, I would buy something that I can tinker with. A good condition, second hand, enterprise class Dell, HP, Fujitsu, or Lenovo is more appealing to me. These machines are configurable, servicable, and have long lasting components. I would get something from last year, with a docking station, and upgrade the SSD, ram, exchange the optical drive in the bay to a second, large HDD, etc.

Should I buy a laptop from Dubai?

Depends on whether you seek a bargain and/or an Arabic letter printed keyboardDubai has the Dubai Shopping Festival as well as multiple sales including GITEX through the year. So you’re likely to get a deal at some point. However I found relatively better bargains on latest electronic products to be had in Hong Kong.Another factor is for all locally retailed laptops, I found the Arabic characters imprinted on the keyboard. If you need this feature, then just go ahead and buy the product here. If not, consider other options.Last but not the least, depending on your requirements, you should consider a configuration that works for you. Then check its availability in Dubai. For example, if you’re a heavy gamer and need heavy duty graphics chips separate from the core processor, a true 1080p display, multiple USB 2 and C ports, larger battery and additional memory to be present in your preferred configuration then it may not be so easily available in the market.
