Why are Pro-Life people against birth control?

Baby, I agree with you 200%! Unfortunately, you have folks in government that would rather give a man Viagra for free instead of a young woman birth control. Plenty of folks who are pro life can't even grasp the concept of people who don't think, act, and speak like they do. Abstinence is a good thing, but let's be real. Sex education should be taught BETTER(some of the curriculum stresses abstinence ONLY!), and more parents need to get involved in the lives of their kids. I tell my younguns to come and talk with me about matters of the heart, mind, and body. I encourage all parents, teachers, clergy, and even government officials to get real and let's teach our young people about all aspects of reproduction, protection from STDs, and help them to get the CORRECT information. FEAR and GUILT are not methods of birth control. Education is.

What was the significance of primogeniture in colonial america?

That's a fairly straightforward question.

The development of Colonial America was determined heavily by a settler's ability to obtain cheap and plentiful land with which to cultivate a product (food, livestock, precious minerals, etc) and therefore provide a living to themselves, their family, and their community. Land was commonly equated with wealth and power, and those with the most coveted pieces of land enjoyed a higher quality of living.

Primogeniture (the act of passing physical assets - land, in this case - to the eldest son) was a tradition that came to America from Europe and was continually supported by colonial communities. This ensured that the families in power kept their valuable land within their family lineage once the original colonists had passed away. Primogeniture ensured that land could not be lost through marriage or divorce, or by means of illegitimate children. It was how wealthy families maintained their wealth, power, and status for generations.

The significance goes beyond community wealth and politics, though. Many of the states we live in today derived their shapes from territory owned by certain families and communities, the borders being determined by the borders of the land they had purchased and claimed in contract. This, of course, completely ignored the treaties the colonists had signed with any american Indian tribal nation, and the concept of Primogeniture was actually an argument against American Indian protests that their land had been stolen.
