Life In Ny City Like Chicago

Which is a better city Chicago, NYC, or LA.?

You asked this question, in a place where you will not get a correct answer.

Why, because you asked in the Chicago section, majority of the people in here are biased and will only vote for Chicago, same can be said if you posted this in the Los Angeles or New York City section of Yahoo Answers. This should be under Polls and Surveys or general U.S travel.

But having been to and lived in all three cities, I would tell you that nothing can compare and beat New York City, it is a world famous city and it is the best city in all of the United States. That is not saying that Chicago or Los Angeles is bad, but New York is New York, and theres nothing that can beat it, and I still have much love for Chicago and Los Angeles.

I would say "Prince of the Rajahz" said it best in here. Its the capital of earth, if earth had a capital.

Is chicago a good city to live in ?

i live in chicago right now. it's absoutly fabulous. the nightlife is fantastic, so are the restraunts and sports teams (usually) and it has a beautiful lake. i live in beverly which is technically part of actual chicago (not a suburb) but it isn't right there in the city. it is about a 15-20 minute drive into the city which is not long. it is perfect. it has everything you could ask for and usually in walking distance. starbucks, panera, borders, churches, schools, and great family run restaurants. and millenium park is fantastic.

Chicago vs. New York City?

My dad just got offered a really great job in New York so I'm moving to NYC in a few weeks. And although I don't want to leave behind my friends and boyfriend, I think the thing I'll miss the most is where I live.

I've lived my entire life in Chicago. And when I say Chicago, I don't mean "Chicago area". I live in the city.

My question is, what's the real difference of the two cities? In what ways are the similar/different?

(I've vistied NYC before, and what I can tell I think Chicago is better. Though I am baised.)

Thanks!

Where would you rather live: New York City or Chicago?

I lived in Chicago for 4 years and currently live in NYC (been here since 97 w/the Chicago hiatus in the middle). I would obviously dismiss the opinions of anyone who actually hasn't lived & worked in both cities. To me, this is an absolute no-brainer: NYC. Though Chicago is pretty and has the outward trappings of a metropolis, at the end of the day, it's overwhelmingly provincial (you’ll note that everyone who protests this is from Chicago or other place in the midwest), segregated (literally demarcated by "Northside" and "Southside") and blatantly racist. It is the "Mecca" of the midwest and all the folks from the flat states migrate to Chicago believing they've made it to the "big city" not realizing it's just a lot of ignorant, narrow-minded people like themselves who think Chicago is the cat’s pajamas. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be overly harsh and there are great, open-minded people around, but the proportions are all wrong and without typical social, peer feedback that racism is wrong (or at least should be muted), it thrives there, right out in the open.NYC is the "Mecca" of the world; it's the center of culture, fashion, media and finance and there is no place remotely like it. Sure, Chicago has a nightlife and a dating scene (what decent-sized city doesn't?), but it utterly pales in comparison to NYC. You'll meet people from all over the world and from all walks of life here, not a single or small handful of archetypes. The NYC public transit system knocks the pants off Chicago's, by the way. No comparison at all.Regarding the startup scene, there are really only 2 places in the US that matter as tech hubs—Silicon Valley and NYC. The tech scene in NYC is booming, being home to Google’s 2nd largest office outside of Mountain View, and a huge swath of startups and more mature tech companies.Sure, NYC can be a harsh mistress and weak people will get eaten alive (or claim they like their own city better when they end up leaving), but there is always a palpable energy and allure to NYC that cannot be denied. Obviously, NYC will be far more expensive (think $1500 for a 1bd in Chicago vs $3500 in NYC), but if you can find a decent job and manage your finances, you shouldn't even think twice about moving to NYC.

Is Chicago, Illinois an expensive city to live in?

I know it's cheaper than New York City, and probably cheaper than San Diego, California according to what someone said. Is Chucago, Illinois affordable to live in whole you figure out what you want to do in life? I'd even consider a roomate, even if apartment rent is $700 it could become $350.

New York City vs. Chicago.......?

I'm starting to think about life after college and where i want to settle down and live and everything, but one little problem. I'm so dead on about these two beautiful cities, but neither one has yet been "better" to me.

there are pro's and con's to both

i live in the chicago area (suburbs) right now and i barely visit downtown or anything so it's not like i'm sick of the city of Chicago yet.

But i've been to New York only once and i would very well be a "new" person and people would think of me as a "tourist" so to say and i don't know how life is like in New York.

in your opinion (city live-ers).... which would you live at if you never technically grew up in either?

and why is the other better?

and other facts, like which crime rates are worse, which is cleaner, which has better atmospheres, better apartments, better whatever!

Which city is closer to canada new york or chicago?

Windsor, Ontario is 300 miles from Chicago.
New York City is almost 500 miles to the nearest point in Canada.
