Lifestyle Of A Commissioned Air Force Officer

Air Force Officer Lifestyle?

Im a pilot (HC-130) in the Air Force. I am a commisioned officer and I work closely with the intel people and intel officers. TO be brutally honest- As an intel officer just starting out, you will do exactly what the junior enlisted intel people do. Its a great job, but as an officer you will be expected to get the information from the enlisted people and do formal briefings to pilots (like myself) and higher leadership. Good for you man! Its a great field and good luck to you. email me if u want to know more.

Housing- excellent, unlike enlisted you dont live in barracks (unless your in formal training like basic for officers or something) you can choose wherever you want to live in an apartment or house if you can afford it. Its good cause new enlisted members have to live in barracks for the first year.

As an officer in the USAF, on day 1 you will be leading people albeit not very many, probably 1 or 2 to begin with, but enlisted people take about 4 years before they formally supervise someone.

Trust me, the lifestyle is great for officers, and is much better then comparable jobs and lifestyle in the civilian world.

Life as an Air Force Officer?

i have three older brothers who were officers in the u.s. army and a father who was as well.so i grew up an army brat....i know that your question was for air force in particular, but i can tell you that the life/lifestyle is similar...and that my bros and dad all said on various occasions that air force guys had it better....you'll probably make a couple dollars less in the air force than you would in the civilian world, but the full benefits, free housing (usually pretty decent for officers) and/or housing allowance, use of on base facilities (gym, golf course, px, commissary, hobby shop, etc.)
families are taken care of pretty well too...kids especially.

How slow are Air Force promotions (officer)?

You get promoted to Captain within 4 years. They can have as many company grade officers as they want so that is pretty easy. However they have a limit on field grade (Major to Colonel) so you will sit at Captain for 5-9 years. Major to Lt Col takes about four years and you might make Colonel by 20. You have to be regular over 20 to make Brig General.

ALL the services have the same issue about field grade officers so no matter what service you join you will get to the O3 rank in four years or less then will sit at that rank for quite a while. However, you might want to go Army as they seem to give nurses more responsibility. In fact, for a while the Surgeon General of the US Army was a nurse (anesthetist). She was the senior medical officer in the entire US Army above everyone, including the doctors.

Life as an Air Force Intelligence Officer?

Hello. I served in AF enlisted Intel for 10 years before becoming commissioned in the Army. Your training will be at Goodfellow AFB. You'll basically be trained as a Generalist, your knowledge will be a mile wide and an inch deep. You won't be sitting and performing technical tasks, but will be managing the people that do. Basically, middle management. You'll probably be doing a lot of briefing. So I hope you're familiar with powerpoint. If not, you'll soon learn.

You may be deployed quite often, or not at all. It really depends on what kind of assignment you get. Expect to be leading a Flight of Airmen ranging anywhere from 10-40 personnel, maybe more. As a junior officer, your hours may be long and the job demanding. You can be stationed in a variety of places both stateside and overseas. I recommend Germany or Hawaii.

How is the life of a medical officer in the air force/army? I'm planning to join as a spine surgeon.

It is the best of both worlds- professional satisfaction and personal fulfillment. You save precious lives and add- value to the most deserving of human lives . The quality of life is matchless, camaraderie is incomparable and social life enviable. You are well paid but not as much as to make a dirty- pile.It is a disciplined life, organised and well-ordered. Besdes being a Doctor, You will become an ‘officer and gentleman'- soaked in military values. Does this feel like a challenge or a put-off. The choice is yours.

What is the daily life of an air force officer like?

yea, you will be able to live with him on base, when ur married that is. and deployments of air force people are around 6 months, and then they come home for however long. thats if they are deployed of course. just depends, he will get 30 days of leave a year though , and weekends when hes not deployed

Are the Indian Army or Air Force officers happy with their life?

Yeah, here it comes from the horses mouth. With 10 years up my belt, I have nothing to hide and no reason to cry. Yes, today it's just another job, a profession that's more awed about than respected on the civil street, a uniform that's more sympathised than sanctified in a common mans heart. How many of you reading this would want to give away your daughter or son or brother or sister for a nation that says ‘'it's just another job, what's it that they brag about’.As i write this article, my brethren are involved in flood relief in ASSAM, Law and order situation in Darjiling, a standoff in Sikkim and a fresh terror attack in J&K, yet they're the deprived lot. Repeatedly, the pay commissions have deprived the Armed forces of their standards to the extent that an Average Army officer today looks for a second source of income. To top it, the current govt has provided the Army with 3 defence ministers, an indifferent part time Raksha Maitri, a foot in mouth Raksha Mantri and a third who wants the forces to clean garbage. All my fellow Bhakts may disagree with me and call me a greedy cat. They'd go ahead and quote a thousand words of their “"Supreme Commander” but I rest my case with a line that iam doing nothing more than a normal job.Let's wait for the Ghaznis and Ghoris to reach out to the citizenry and make them realise the importance of the Armed Forces. That day will spill my blood for sure, not because my countrymen deserve it, but because the soil that reared me would demand it. The cost of an indifferent citizenry and a greedy political system will be paid with blood. But blood will also be of the common man as today's battlefield pervades much beyond the borders. And for all those who say that “Armed forces never invited you to join and yet you joined, so it's your fault” - all that I've to ask the common citizenry is that - ARE YOU HAPPY TO HAVE AN ARMY OF REPENTING OFFICERS.Add On 1:This answer is not to be misconstrued that the forces are not battle ready. That'll be as far from truth as possible. The forces are very much ready and the cohesion between the three services is at its best. However, not a bit of coordination is attributable to national will or political support.
