Put them (especially the perfume) in your check in bag. Put any expensive jewelery in your carry on bag. I have brought everything you say with me on all my trips (7) here & never any problems) I was only checked 1 time & that was because I put an X on my bags to help me identify them - I found out that is the signal to check the bags so never put an X on anything. If you are worried about somebody stealing the bags & want to make them stand out so you can see them easily paint about 3 or 4 different colors on them so you can see they are yours from across the airport. LOL
Mother-in-law wants list of gifts "her friends" gave us for wedding?
I have to agree with armywife2012. What's the big deal? As others have said, you don't need to tell her how much each person gave. Just say "Sue gave us money, and Angie gave us a gift card to Red Lobster," or whatever. If she pushes, just tell her that her friends were all very generous with their gifts, and leave it at that.

Patted myself on the back for that idea. Vitamins are cheaper in California than here. Bringing those as gifts (for hypochondriac friends) is still a good idea, I suppose. It is kind of weird to me to give vitamins as a gift, unless it was specifically asked for by someone. You are right, vitamins are available here, but it is more expensive than in N. America. I prefer to get my vitamins by eating the correct amount of food from the 5 food groups. Chocolate is always appreciated, particularily special local chocolates from independant producers. Napa wine is a valued commodity and is a very valuable investment for many Taiwanese, it will be very appreciated. If you didn't know, most microbreweries that are in USA have no representation in Taiwan, if you want to surprise and amuse people out here, bringing samples of beer from microbreweries, or even just the bottles with their various interesting names, probably will make a good gift for any adults out here who are bilingual. Only large corporate beers get shipped out here. People in Taiwan love spicy food, perhaps some of the famous spicy jalapeno mexican chili sauces with their various amusing names and levels of doom will challenge the even the jaded tastebuds of Taiwanese. Once again, mostly only bland large corporate brand name spicy sauces are represented out here.

Bringing gifts across US Canada border - is it legal?
You can bring gifts but do not wrap them before you cross the border. Customs may want to see what you are bringing and they will open them so wrapping is a waste of time beforehand.
