Long Volunteer Abroad Options 1 Year

What are the best volunteering abroad programs?

I'm interested in traveling abroad through a volunteer program. In my google searches, I've found many options, such as Govoluntouring.com -- is that a good one? Basically I want to find reputable NGO's that make good use of the money you give them, and are aimed at making a difference, not a profit.

Where should I volunteer abroad?

I might be replying late to this question, however, I hope my reply does help seekers. :)You could explore this link http://www.betterworldinternatio... for an internship. I joined this team as an intern and I work full time now. Its an online opportunity and you get to work with a global team (people from Poland, Hungary, USA, Italy, UK, Russia, India). The work is diverse and super cool and shares awesome courses for your holistic development. You would be able to see your growth first month from the first month itself. Trust me, in my job experiences, the growth was so slow paced. The results are quick and visible and my skill-set has expanded. We don’t realize what all we are capable to doing. Do check it. :)

I would like to volunteer abroad, i have no college degree, and i need all expenses paid, do u know a group?

Short answer -- as is noted by others here -- is that this is not going to happen. Longer answer is...

Well... you're not at all specific about where it is you are hoping to travel and what skills you might have to contribute. No college degree does not mean unskilled. But, with limited work experience and few definable skills there are going to be NO organizations willing to pay for you to volunteer abroad. Consider simply the current economic climate and levels of unemployment, especially among the young, worldwide.

Also, you need to consider the realities of the current "marketplace" to volunteer abroad: it is dominated by what are called third-party providers and/or voluntary service organizations (Jayne's links offer a good overview). They can be great options -- especially for those without clearly defined (and in demand) skill sets, limited experience abroad and/or foreign language background, etc -- but there are often considerable fees involved (which don't cover transportation to the country).

Which is not to say there aren't options and though they are not paid there are certainly lower cost alternatives and programs available to you and anyone.

You will need to get a bit more specific about where you want to go and/or what sort of work you'd want to do before any sort of search would be particularly productive, but... you can start with some of these resources, perhaps...

A whole host of low to no cost (generic) volunteer options can be searched at any and all of the following pages & sites:

For general information, Transitions Abroad also offers extensive articles and resources on the ins and outs (benefits and expense too) of volunteering abroad. Heavy on the provider-side of things:

And... well, I hope some of the above helps.

Best,
Mark.

What are some organizations for volunteering and travel?

I think AIESEC may be a good option for you. A few months ago, I applied for an AIESEC project in Indonesia and stayed there for five weeks. As a volunteer, my job was to teach English and Chinese culture in the local elementary schools and orphanages. During my stay there, I also experienced the great seaside scenery, the special food and the unique Minang culture of West Sumatra.I also traveled to many other wonderful places and met a lot of nice friends from all over the world. I am not an AIESECer myself, but I do like the opportunities  provided by AIESEC. The combination of Traveling and volunteering. Guess you can have a try!

What is a great 1 week volunteer program for a young adult, either in the US or abroad?

Anything abroad, for one week, isn’t really volunteering - it’s just you paying a lot of money for a feel-good experience.HistoriCorps might be an option for you. But if you want to go abroad, find a place where you really want to visit and simply travel there. Also see Volunteering Abroad - How To Do It

President's Volunteer Service Award for Volunteering Abroad?

To get the President's Volunteer Service Award, you have to volunteer through an organization that is already registered with the Award, and agrees to track your hours in order for you to obtain this award. I've never heard of a volunteering abroad org being a part of such - volunteering is supposed to help your own country for this award - but check the web site, which links to all registered orgs.

Is it worth it to do International volunteering?

Good on you for asking this question before you go. I spent an entire year traveling and volunteering and spent a lot of time grappling with this question...From my experience, if you are paying money to go, chances are the organization is using you as their revenue driver, and as a result, the work you do isn't that important. In some instance, the work you do actually hinders (or reverses) progress. It's worth looking at this report about volunteering in orphanages:"Cambodia's Orphan Business"My recommendation is that you answer these questionsWhat skills do you have? What causes do you care about?Where/how can you donate your skills in such a way that will NOT erode local jobs or support unethical business? Are you volunteering for a project that exists, or was a project created just for you (you want the former)Then, I would try and connect to a social impact organization that needs your expertise using MovingWorlds (strong bias as this is my organization), Workaway: http://www.workaway.info/, or Omprakash: http://www.omprakash.org/ to find an organization that will provide you accommodations in exchange for you volunteering your expertise, instead of you paying for it. If an organization is offering you a service in exchange for your voluntary work, then you know that you will be doing high-impact, meaningful work.I hope this helps - please don't hesitate to direct message me if I can help in any other way.... donating my skills overseas was a truly life changing experience for me and I hope you find an amazing opportunity :)

How do I get chosen for a volunteer abroad program? I applied 2 months ago. What do I do?

I think it is important to understand the process you choose to go through for finding a volunteer opportunity abroad.Essentially there are two options - going through a volunteer company/agency and having them direct the communications, or reaching out directly to the local nonprofit and communicating with them.In terms of responsible, ethical and sustainable volunteering - it is always considered BEST to communicate directly with the organization to best understand their needs, time frame, whether your skills can be a good match, and more.Where did you apply? You are welcome to directly communicate with nonprofits worldwide through the free GivingWay platform.

Looking at an Internship abroad, does anyone know about Global Experiences International Internships?

Wow that is an extremely, extremely expensive program. I think you should definitely intern abroad but no way in heck should you pay $7-$9 thousand dollars for the experience. I did an internship abroad last year and it was the best decision I ever made...but trust me there are programs that are much cheaper and probably a lot better organized since they are not as big. I can write up the link of the program that I used so you can compare prices. But basically I went through Leave UR Mark and I did an internship for 4 months at a travel magazine. I also never studied abroad in college but wanted to get my life experience through the internship. I had an amazing time because I got to write tons of articles like restaurant reviews and cultural festivals, etc. I also lived in their international guest house with all the other interns and volunteers from all over the world so it was a lot of fun socially. We'd all go on our separate projects during the day and then go out for drinks in the evenings or travel to the nearby beaches and ancient ruins etc. on the weekends. It was also in India which is a booming economy and looks much better on your resume and your professional career than I'd say Sydney or Dublin. Although those are beautiful cities, right now Asia is the hub for good work experience. It will really impress your future employers when you come back to your own country. So please think about spending a lot less money and that way you can spend more time abroad or do like maybe 2 months of internship, 2 months of volunteering, and 2 months of traveling. Good luck, hope you had as good a time as I did! Here is the link for the internship projects: http://www.leaveurmark.com I think they can also place you in whatever you are interested if it's not on the website but you should contact them directly to find out.

What are types of volunteer work?

A person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking . A person who performs a service willingly and without pay is volunteer work there can be two types of volunteer programs -1- Short-Term Volunteer ProgramsIn a short-term volunteer program, volunteers provide service to a community on a short-term basis and/or focus on the cultural learning experience. These programs can be for-profit or not-for-profit. These days, short-term/intercultural placements make up the vast majority of volunteer abroad programs.2- Long-Term Volunteer Programs-The focus of most long-term volunteer placements work is on empowering local people. These programs often involve some kind of skills transfer and may require volunteers to have specific educational or professional qualifications. These can often take the form of fee-paying volunteering placements, but also free volunteering projects that you organize independently. They are generally not - for - profit making. The right type of volunteer work Depends on your interest and what you are looking for. Some people like to play with kids they can volunteer at boys\ girls club . Some people are animal lovers they can volunteer for animal NGO's.
