Looking For A Job Over The Holidays

Do you like to vacation over the holidays?

Generally no, since most places are crowded and far too many people with the tourist mentality. One notable exception was Morro Bay a few years ago. The weather people had predicted horrible weather for the entire Christmas - New Years Eve week. We went up for 4 days centered on NYE and it proved to be a great time.Yup, the weather was horrible … poured most of the time. But the place we stayed at had a great NYE party. We also found quite a few venues open the next day and the nice thing is that none were crowded. You might get 2 minutes with the wine maker on a typical crowded good weather weekend; this time, we got to chat with owners, winemakers, craftspeople quite a bit. Often times, we were the only ones in the shop.Granted, that’s bad for business but it was good for us looking for a relaxing time. Close to that was years ago when the Adirondack area of New York State was first trying to promote fall tourism. I and my then wife stayed at a 4 star resort for 1/3 their normal price and 100% of their normal service and hospitality. Many other things were open but since the concept wasn’t yet popular, not too many people.

Getting a job at Bath and Body Works during the Holiday season.?

I work in retail and the holiday seasons in my opinion gets a tad hectic, oh who am I kidding. At times its pure hell. Most places will be looking for people just for that set of time. Most places will be searching for cashiers since we know lines get pretty backed up. So there is a chance. For tips, I say put as much as you can on your application. Also if you can drop in one day and just pick one up, fill it out there if you can and give it to them. That way your name will be in the stack for applicants. Since its still on the early end of holiday season you have a much better chance getting a job rather than the person who applies a few weeks before the kickoff of the season. They might ask how many hours you can work as well, so if you give them a pretty good amount of hours your free that's also a plus. An let them know ahead of time if your in school or certain activities so they can schedule you accordingly. Most importantly if you get called in for an interview show up early, let them know your serious about the job. Also dress nice, put your best manners forward, because they also look at your personality. Since any position is some form of customer service.

If you get hired, be punctual, keep to your schedule, try your hardest and maybe if your lucky they'll keep you as a member of their team. :)

When do stores start hiring for seasonal help for the Holidays?

I would start dropping off applications and resumes by the end of September. Just be sure to specify you are looking for temorary or seasonal work. The holiday rush normally starts right after Halloween, but it may help to start a bit earlier. Some companies will hire you to start at a later date.

Quitting during holiday season?

With a little more than two weeks to go until December, I am planning on quitting my job at a retail store Ive been at for almost three months. There's about 10 workers here, but I plan on giving a 2 week notice today. However, I feel a little guilty about quitting since we are getting ready for Christmas time, though two weeks will help them likely find a new replacement. Would it be inappropriate to quit during holiday season? Note: this is not a temporary job.

Is December a bad month to look for a job?

I'm not sure, I just think the worse time to look for a job is in June when School is finished. Most People want a Job then. Good Luck!
