Looking For Cruiser Decks New York City

Observation decks in New York City?

This was a well kept "secret" place.
Would see if it is still there.
Beekman Towers apt bldg just off UN plaza.
Had / has a rooftop bar w/ open parapet that gives views over East River, UN & East side Manhattan.
Only 23 stories but the views are "different" than from the midtown skyscrapers.
Hope it's still there. There are some small bars & cafe's in the UN area that are also worth a visit.
Best regards
Edit...
Try searching bars/restaurants w/ best NY views

I've always thought the Atlanta class cruisers were cool. They were designed as light fleet cruisers, but always carried a ridiculously large number of anti-aircraft guns for a light cruiser, and eventually just became designated anti-aircraft cruisers. The most famous was probably the Juneau which was sunk by a Japanese sub after the battle of Guadalcanal. Having taken substantial damage in battle there, she was sunk on the way back to base for repairs. The five Sullivan brothers were aboard her when she went down, and all perished. Their loss became famous, and much later the inspiration for the film "Saving Private Ryan."The Atlanta class were excellent AA ships, and the Juneau was credited with downing several dozen Japanese planes before she was lost. Ships of the class also directly engaged much heavier Japanese battleships in frenzied close range night actions off of Guadalcanal, where their huge battery of 16 5 inch guns (14 available in broadside), while unable to sink a dreadnought, could put a real hurt on one's decks and superstructures simply with volume of fire.Later versions of the ships reduced the number of 5 inch guns to 12, and replaced those guns (and also less effective 1.1 inch light AA guns) with batteries of excellent 40mm Bofors AA guns. Late war ships bristled with so many 5 inch, 40mm and 20mm guns that they were somewhat unbalanced and had trouble berthing the all the crewmembers manning the weapons.Aft of the USS Juneau showing four of the eight twin 5 inch mounts.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US...

When I was a Subway Train Operator, I'm used to tourists asking far fetched questions, requests to take your picture and the occasional demand to run a red signal because they are late for the theater. But during my career, two tourists, had it not been for my sharp eyes and fast reflexes, would have been part of a grim statistic… ‘man under’ train. As an Uptown 6 train leaving Union Square, I noticed something dart across the tracks. I apply the brakes and slowly approach the abandoned 18th Street station. I noticed something on the tracks that looked like a garbage bag moving on its own. Something didn't feel right, so I put my train to a full stop and blew my horn twice. That ‘garbage bag' turned into two young women who quickly ran up onto the deserted platform. I radioed Command Center about the situation and they ordered me to get those women on my train. Pulled up to the platform, manually opened the passenger door and motioned them to get on the train. I asked them what the hell were they doing out there? Seems they were European students backpacking across the US and was sleeping on the abandoned station to save money. I told them that it's very dangerous on the tracks, between getting run over or electrocuted. Not to mention the notorious man-eating rats. As I pulled into 23rd St., I was asked by Command if the women were still in my train. I opened my cab, and they took off. Command told me to go back in service. Never saw or heard of them again.

Where do I park for the New Years event in New York Times Square?

leave it in Queens, Brooklyn or NJ, depending on which way your coming from, and take the train.

Honesty, you shouldn't go. It's ten to twelve hours in the cold (if you want a good view) with no access to bathrooms or food. We locals don't go, the majority of New Yorkers at that thing are the NYPD.

Need a new longboard, please help!?

So my longboard was stolen the other night :( (d-bags) so i need a new board. i HAD a Sector 9 Apex board that was 34 inches long, had Gullwing 9 inch Alpine trucks, and 72mm wheels.

I mostly ride my neighborhood which has some hills but most arent to crazy, i hit 20 only once or twice, so i dont need a crazy 50 in board, i want something small again so its easy to carry but something that can handle what i ride and let me push myself and do some bigger hills every once in a while too.

I definitelly want big wheels again and wide trucks and a short deck but i dont know where to begin.
Is Sector 9 a good place to look again?
or is Earthwing better?

i dont really want a landyacht cuz they just seem big and flambouant but ive heard they have good downhill boards that are 40 inchs, but is that a big jump 34 to 40 inches?

anyways i could go on forever just let me know what you think and maybe a link or whatnot.
Thanks in advance,
a fellow boarder

Advice for Travelling across America in an RV?

First questions, do you have a US drivers license and if you want a larger RV are you able to take classes and pay the fees to drive it? Are you over the age of 25 (most places will not rent to people below this age)? Do you know how to take care of an RV (i.e. dump sewage if needed)? Well this could all become rather pricey but I do not want to crush any hopes. It sounds like fun!

Most companies rent is done by how many nights you need. Nightly rental rates vary throughout the year and by company etc. There will also be a tax in which ever state you rent and possibly insurance fees (because you do not have US auto insurance) and damage deposits. And since you are not from here you may want to pay for an "emergency kit" with them in case you break down or there is an accident.
A "Hospitality kit" may also be worth it since you can not fly over all the supplies.

Rates will depend on the type of RV you are looking for. I would say something similar to or smaller than a compact ... Class-C or Euro Cruiser, which can be $120/night to $176/night for a week and you will need more than a week considering the fact the locations you chose are all over the map :). So try to plan your vacation around the peak seasons such as summer and spring. As far as mileage fees go it can be over 32¢ for each mile traveled over the base amount given.

Fuel consumption is another factor. If you have a Class-C then it will be around 7-10 miles per gallon highway. And gas prices here are $3-4 a gallon depending on location...not sure if they will go up or down by your trip. Your generator may also run on gas and will add to the cost.

Other cost considerations are where you will be parking your RV. There are places all over where you can legally park free (wal-mart) but will have no amenities this is called boondocking, but you will need water / sewage or maybe even electric hook ups. It will depend on where you choose to stay but this can run from just $5-10 to $$$ if you stay in nicer parks. So, look ahead and find locations where you can stop for the best price.

As far as places to go there are many free things to do and that is lucky because much of the budget will be in rent, hook-up location, food, toll roads etc. If you like nature then look into national parks. There are also weird road side places all over.

Have a great trip! :)
