Loose Shoulder Socket Hurts A Lot

How bad does shoulder surgery hurt?

I had shoulder surgery a year ago to repair my labrum and to tighten the shoulder joint because I was constantly dislocating my shoulder. The surgery was no fun, very painful, and I did not sleep a full night for almost 3 months. The physical therapy is very intense and painful (in the beginning) and it does take a long time. I was in for 8 months. But, it feels great now and I have been able to do all the things I did before my injury and surgery. Depending on the level of your pain and what is found in the MRI, your only option may be to have surgery. When certain parts of the shoulder are torn, there is no amount of PT or time that will repair the injury. That was the issue in my case. I had a SLAP repair done with 2 anchors and an Anterior/Posterior capsular plication. I thought that it would never get better and that I made a horrible mistake until about 4 months into it, but then it improved steadily (slow though) and now it is fine. If I ever had to do it again, I would because I know the pain is only temporary.

And one more thing; for people who have very loose joints with extreme hyper-mobility, you will lose range of motion when compared to the other shoulder, but this is only because we are so used to having the hyper-mobile shoulder joints. When they fix the shoulder and tighten it up, it feels the way most people's shoulders feel. It's just weird to us, if that makes sense. Good luck with the ortho and I hope that you don't have to have surgery. If you do, you can email me and I will send you some tips on how to get through the first few weeks in a sling!

Severe shoulder pain?

i have severe pain in my shoulder. it's getting so if i walk the friction is enough to make it spasm. it's not frozen, i can move it but the joint pops up and down. i've tried doing little exercises to build up the rotator cuff muscles, i've tried more general shoulder exercises, the more i move it the worse it is. especially if i lift above my head, and not immediate pain but like it builds up and eventually is so bad i have to stay in bed and it makes me sick. the doctors that have examined me have only looked at me, and done xrays, no MRI scan. i have had it for a year, i've had injections. put cold on it, rested it, moved it. if anything it's more severe. i am seeing a physio soon, but i dont know if i should be resting it or moving it. when moving it makes it so bad. what should i do??

How do I "pop" a dislocated shoulder back into it's socket?

I have dislocated my left shoulder three times now. Everytime I go to the emergency room It takes them 2 hours to get me in a room and another 2 hours to get someone to "pop" my shoulder back in. (which takes 2 minutes to get it in). Everytime they do it they drug me up on some super morphine stuff that makes me black out for a minute, so I cant see what they're doing. I was wondering if there was a faster, of course cheaper and safer way of doing it.

Dislocated shoulder from football?

I played defensive linemen last year for my high school. During football practice, someone tried to block me, and he was huge and strong. When I went past him, my left arm was up in the air, and he pushed it with both hands really hard, and my left shoulder kinda popped out of the socket or something. It was numb and hurt. I hurt it again doing the same thing a few seconds later, and on that second time, I had to push my arm back into the socket. I just pushed it slightly. It was like the arm went too far back. It sotra popped off, and I think i dislocated it, but I wasn't sure. It hurt really bad the next two days and i couldnt move it at full speed . It didnt even have any power in it anymore, but it healed back. Then, i hurt it during a game. Ever since then, ive been hurting my shoulder a lot. It keeps popping out when i play basketball or football. Last time, I was playing basketball, nobody touched me. I just dribbled with the abll and somehow my arm popped out. Another time, I was watching a football game on TV. When there was a big play. I jumped off my seat and yelled in excitement and threw my hands up, but then my left shoulder popped out again. I dont get it. Is my shoulder really hurt that bad? It pops out a lot when i play sports. Its better than it used to be, but in football practice, ive hurt it two days straight. And when I got home, it was really sore. It was hard to sleep too. What should I do? Should I stop playing football? But more importntly, what do I do with my should injury?

Shoulder Injury. Proper Diagnosis?

Hi. I am a teenage girl who throws shot put and discus competitively.
There is no swelling or brusing
Lately I've been having issues with my shoulder for the last 6 weeks or so., I was playing volleyball and dove for the ball. I fell awkwardly on my right shoulder, and my whole arm when numb just for a few seconds. I have dull achy pain, but the pain gets more severe at times; esp. when I am in bed. When I lay flat it feels like it is going to fall out of the socket (it makes this weird popping noise), and it hurts to lay on my right shoulder. It also hurts when I throw something. It makes a popping sound every time I bring my arm from backwards to forwards and also right to left if that makes sense. It is really starting to bug me, it catches and jerks my whole body. Also, if I do not support my shoulder, it feels very loose and makes noises. I have also noticed when something pulls against it, either outwards or downwards, I feel it slightly pop out. I am also a lot weaker on my right (dominant hand) which previously was my stronger and a good amount of range of motion lost.

It hurts specifically on the top (near the AC joint) of my shoulder as well as the front part where the arm meets the chest ( bicep tendon?)., but at the same time is a dull, achy pain all over. Sometimes the pain radiates to my upper arm and sometime hand....
My specific shoulder gets tired VERY easily, even if I just hold my arm up.

I've been to the athletic trainer, orthopedist and physical therapist, and all three have given me a different diagnose. I have heard that it is a shoulder separation, rotator cuff tendonitis, and bicep tendonitis.

I have been going to PT for at least 6 weeks. I have seen an improvement in my ROM, but not really pain wise.... the clicking of my shoulder is still very apparent.

What do you think this is? What should I do? See another doctor?

**I'm sorry if this is wicked long, or it seems like I am complaining. I just want to get this figured out**

thanks :)
