Is swimming 2 times a week enough to lose weight?

Not immediately. Swimming in a LCM (50 Meter) pool is really good for working on your stroke without having to constantly do flips and wall practice. (I usually only get to take 7 or 8 strokes in a 25 yard pool after my underwater kicks). Depending on how fast you swim, it will burn many more Calories. If you swim constantly for an hour and a half at a 2:00 100m pace, you will burn lots of calories. On the other hand, if you make sets that work different muscle groups and strokes, even if they aren't just constant swimming, you will get much more in shape.

I've been swimming 6-10 times per week in a SCY pool for 1 hour to 2 hours each time, doing sets and lots of endurance training, and I've dropped almost 10 lbs since the beginning of the swim season (~2 months ago). I was in about the same boat as you, a little extra flab in the stomach. I actually got rid of my Asthma by increasing my lung capacity from swimming as well.

I'd say that swimming is a great choice to become more fit generally, and you will have trouble making the full hour and a half at first. In addition, I would give it about a month before you begin to see actual results. You will improve very fast at first though.

Does swimming help you lose weight?

I need to have a body of a hollister model for the summer for my cousins wedding. There's going to be an after party at the pool and she said we all have to look skinny in our bathing suits. So starting in spring I'm going to swim 3 days a week for 2 hours. I don't do laps I just swim free style and play lol. Will this make me really skinny?

Has anyone lost weight with Swimming?

I have been trying to shed those extra pounds that I gained due to hormonal shots in the past couple of months. I tried Yoga, Gym , GM diet plan. I managed to lose 16 pounds. But now it seems really hard to lose those 20 pounds more.
I have resorted to swimming these days. I read online that swimming isn't a great way to lose weight. But these med articles are not always reliable.
I want to know from the experiences of people. Is anyone out there who has lost weight with swimming? If yes, how many hours per day/ how many times per week? Is there any other exercise which I need to follow along with swimming? Please help!!!
