What are the coldest cities in Australia to live in?

Melbourne is one of the coldest cities in Australia in Winter times. It is the Capital of Victoria. It doesn't snow there but the winters can be notorious. Or you can opt for Hobart, the Capital of Tasmania and it is even colder than Melbourne and Winters last longer.Or you can live in Geelong which is the second largest city of Victoria, exposed to the sea and equally cold as Melbourne the distance of which is about 85kms, one hour driving (From Melbourne).Or the third largest city of the State of Victoria you can choose Ballarat and is the coldest part of Victoria. Summers are not that hot like in Melbourne. Or Adelaide, the Capital of South Australia which lives with six months rain and the temperatures are slightly higher than Melbourne but Summers can get very hot. Its dry Summers make it easier to live in Adelaide. There are much more choices but I couldn't fit them in here!I still think that Melbourne is still the best bet in the sense that you will freeze on average four months a year and yet it doesn't take much rain albeit it rains every month. You will have more Job opportunities, too. Summers in Melbourne are generally warm to hot depending on the weather cycles. If you think Melbourne would be too big for you, you can still move to the outskirts of the city (Frankston or Dandenong) which are very well connected literally to anywhere. The Ring Roads and Freeways are world class in Melbourne. Why don't you make some Google search? There is a plethora of websites about every State and Territories about Australia. You'll learn much more.

Whats the Bishop Auckland area like in Durham?

I don't live there now but I grew up in that area ... that's a while ago now so my information may be a little out of date but I doubt it's totally inaccurate ... yes the town of Bishop Auckland is nice, it has a lot of history and character, for instance the Bishops Palace and grounds ... the problem is that some of the housing estates on the outskirts and in some surrounding towns/villages are a bit dead-end ... they were a bit difficult when I was a kid 40 years ago and nowadays my relatives who still live in the area reckon it's got a lot worse ... there used to be coal mining and other industry years ago, the vast majority of which has now disappeared ... so in the people still left in these places there is a culture of unemployment and despair, which obviously leads onto drug dealing, crime etc ... the countryside around Bishop Auckland is beautiful, you're on the edge of the Pennines and Teesdale, and it's not far to drive to places like the North Yorks Moors, and I miss it dreadfully (like many others, I moved out of the area for work) ... maybe this helps explain some of the comments you've been getting, you tend to get a split between professionals and other qualified people in work who are charming and really nice to live with, and disaffected people who are either unemployed, unskilled or on minimum-wage type jobs and who are maybe not quite so charming to live amongst ... if I were to work in Bishop Auckland and were looking for where to live, I would probably gravitate towards Durham City ... Durham has a world-class university and cathedral and is a very cultured and diverse place to live, if you want to live outside of Durham I would take advice from your local contacts as one village/town can be good and the next not ... I wouldn't say it was fantastically racist, but minority ethnicities are perhaps not as common as in other areas of the country and there can be resentment from unemployed locals towards incomers

hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy the move
