Low Gpa And Average Sat Will I Get Into These Colleges

What colleges could I get into with low gpa/sat?

You have a shot at Hunter and Baruch, but both are reach schools for you. You have a good shot at Buffalo State - that's a fit for you.

In terms of schools I think you have a good shot at in NY State, I'd have you look at Nyack College, Alfred State U, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Old Westbury, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Lehman, York College, Brooklyn College, Dominican College of Blauvelt, Morrisville State, College of Mount Saint Vincent, St. Francis College, College of New Rochelle, Mount Saint Mary U, St. Thomas Aquinas College, LIM College, Iona, Long Island U Brooklyn, Long Island U CW Post, and as reaches (but possibles), look at Pace, Manhattanville, SUNY Fredonia, St. Bonaventure.

If you don't mind NJ, you may get into Caldwell College, Centenary U, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgian Court U, Kean U, New Jersey City U, Rider, Rowan, Rutgers Camden, St. Peter's U, William Patterson, Richard Stockton, and Felician U.

What are your chances at college if your gpa is lower than the admissions average ?

I would have to know your extra currics and SAT score to know this. Good thing with SD is they have a point system, which in my opinion is more fair.

A high GPA and SAT are good, but I know for a fact that some friends of mine got into schools such as UCLA with a 1600 SAT, (4.5 Weighted GPA though). Some of it depends on if your the first one to college, the essay, and how many AP classes you took. Don't worry man your GPA is decent and will get you minimum Riverside or Irvine.

Higher SAT score is always good, and remember they only take the best score now, so take it as many times as you want. A good score that might push you through would be 1900-2400. In terms of essay, make it personal and they want to see a passion to learn and succeed. Doing all this will guarantee you SD or Irvine, not doing it with only a 3.76 will give you a 50/50 chance.

But don't worry at all, because I guarantee Irvine. That and college admissions get crazier every year, had a friend go to Pomona college with a 1700 SAT, and 3.6 GPA weighted.

Okay this is some advice after reviewing what you just added on. You will get into Irvine and SD no question about it. However if we had to question if you would get into SD, it would probably be how many APs you took. But in my opinion and my college counselors opinion, is that A's are more important the name of the class. If you can improve your SAT score to about 2200, you can maybe even get into UCLA if your lucky. The main reason I say that UCLA is possible because you are the first one to go to college. Apply to the private schools to like Chicago, Emory, UCSB, USC and NYU if you want.

Now not to be racist or anything, but knowing your nationality can help alot. Most people believe race doesn't play a part in admissions, sadly it does. I had a friend with a 1700 SAT, 3.7 weighted GPA, and little extra curriculars get into Pomona college. However he was Latino and the first one to college, see how race and circumstance plays a huge role in admissions. The list goes on but basically anything could affect your admissions. If your missing a foot I mean anything, can really affect your admissions, including a special talent.

Can i get into Baruch College with a low GPA?

Your GPA is not stellar but then I don't know what subjects you studied in high school and what you want to major in. If you do great on your SATs and write a great essay, it will certainly increase your chances. Here is something you can check to see how grades and scores are weighed for Baruch College for the class of 2017, who will be attending this fall.

Can I be accepted to any CUNY Colleges with a low SAT?? ?

Hi,

I'm about to cry. I'm feeling like a loser, I don't know what to do. I want to apply for college (CUNY) but my SAT is very low. I got a 820 math & reading combined. 380 Reading, 440 Math. My total SAT math, writing and reading is 1280. My GPA at the end of my junior year was a 89, right now I'm a senior with a 91 GPA. I've not played any sports, clubs or amy extracurricular activities. Right now I'm a member of the Arista Honor Society. I'm taking AP Biology and AP Economics. I'm going to do more activities from now on. Do you think I can make to any CUNY college? I don't want to go to a community college. I want to major in Physician Assistant. Thr goal was to get accepted at Hunter, but my grades aren't that great. I'm not a lazy student, I just don't know why my SAT is so low, i'm a good student, excellent behavior... Etc. Any suggestions, ideas, critiques? I feel so miserable. Thanks to all of you in advance.

Why can people with low SAT and GPA be accepted by top colleges?

There are various reasons why people with low SAT scores and GPAs are accepted by top colleges. But first, I will explain what exactly is a “low” score. If a student has a 21 on the ACT, their chances of getting accepted to a top college is nearly impossible. But, low compared to the school's average may be actually considered high for the average student. For example, Yale’s average ACT score range is a 31-35. These are incredible good scores. But if you have a 30, your score is still solid, but technically considered “low” for Yale. To get your foot in the door, you will want your SAT scores and GPA to be within or slightly above a school’s target range. Once you reach a certain threshold, you will be considered academically qualified! So how much do your scores matter? To sum it up, your scores aren’t everything. If you’re an athlete, there is more leniency. Athletes are recruited for their athletic abilities, so their scores are not as important. That being said, top schools still care about whether their recruited athletes have good grades and test scores. They want to make sure that the athletes can stand the academic rigor of their institution. The recruitment process is completely different than regular admissions! Learn more about how sports can get you accepted to college.Admissions officers also consider the applicant's context when reading applications. If a student didn’t have the best grades or test scores, admissions officers want to understand why. For example, students who grew up in low income areas don’t have all the resources that most high schoolers do! Admissions officers take this into consideration and look at how the student overcame these academic challenges.Lastly, the most common reason why people with low test scores and GPAs get into top colleges is because most schools read applications holistically. This means that they look at every single part of your application. Your extracurriculars, essays, letters of recommendation, they look at it all! These components are just as important as your grades and scores. So, admissions officers will admit a student with a lower than average score if the rest of the application is strong and compelling. It’s not just about the numbers, it is about who you are as a person!

I have a low GPA but high test scores. What colleges should I be thinking about?

I would think that the schools you listed would be receptive to your application. What intrigues me, however, and may hold you back is the discrepancy between your SAT/ACT and SAT Subject test scores and your GPA. You may want to try to find a way to explain why your GPA is so low with such high standardized test scores and subject test scores. Obviously you can’t attribute it to boredom or dislike of school. But you appear to be something of an underachiever where your studies are concerned.Clearly you have a resume that includes some of the things you would expect from a top student such as leadership and a rigorous course load. But a weighted GPA of 3.5 with 10 AP and honors courses suggests that your unweighted GPA is more like 3.0. This is fairly low for the schools you have listed. It is not insurmountable. But you should probably consider applying to some safety schools where a 3.0 unweighted GPA with a 36 ACT and 1600 SAT would put you above the mean. You could try looking in your home state at public universities. You could also look at second tier liberal arts colleges that award merit aid off standardized test scores. These schools typically are rewarding students with high test scores because it improves their ranking when they increase their test score mean.To find such schools you might want to start here Scholarships for SAT and ACT Scores

Getting accepted to college on a low GPA?

I am looking into applying to Oregon State University. Right now, I am a junior in high school and in the past, I haven't gotten the best of grades. My average GPA for high school at this point is 2.8. In order to get into Oregon State University, their website claims I must have a 3.0 or higher, and a C- or better in required courses. See here: http://oregonstate.edu/admissions/admiss...

I'm not afraid that my GPA is too low, I'm doing much better in my courses now, and I'm sure I can bring it up to a 3.0 before the end of my senior year. However, I'm afraid that because I did not receive a C- or higher in a couple of semesters, that I will not get accepted. Is this the case?

My question is, if I do well on my SAT/ACT and my submission essay, is it still possible for me to get into this school on this GPA?

Thank you in advance!

Can I still get into an Ivy League school with a low GPA/AP/SAT scores, but with strong extracurricular activities, work experience, letters of recommendation, and an essay?

Ivy League schools are some of the most prestigious universities in the world. That being said, there are certain requirements these schools look for when assessing a student’s application. Having a high GPA, AP scores, and standardized test scores is crucial to your acceptance into one of these universities. There are exceptions to this, with students with low GPAs or SAT scores being accepted. But these students must have had an exceptional essay, recruited for sports, or a serious circumstance when applying. However for the most part, colleges look for students who can succeed in their school academically. If your grades are subpar, the admissions officers will most likely not give a good look into your application once they see a low GPA and test scores.

What colleges should I apply to with a high SAT score but a poor GPA?

Keeping this ANON because its a tad un kosherYou want to apply to large state schools, talking UIUC UMICH or really any major public institution that tickles your fancy. I was in a similar situation (you dont specify how poor is poor here but I was definitely not the valedictorian). I had iffy luck with the private schools when I was applying, I either got a good scholarship or a straight and pure rejection. There was very little middle ground. With state schools I got into all of them in the UC system except for the true upper echelon schools like Berkeley or UCLA. The state schools are more formulaic, so on paper your scores on the SAT could actually overcome a mediocre GPA. I feel like for many of them (considering their size) they probably have a standard score or ranking that combines all test scores, AP scores, and GPA weighted. The admissions committee usually looks at that score and then reads the essays and looks through the extracurriculars to make a final decision. Private schools are probably a lot more holistic. If you have done at least a few decent Extracurriculars you aren't out of the playing at all for some premier state institutions, private schools are a true crapshoot.
