Low Oil Light And An Oil Leak. Any Ideas

Low oil light came on, put 1 qt. of oil in, now Im getting a clicking noise 3 days later, why?HELP!?

So, Friday my low oil light came on. As soon as it came on, I went to an auto store and checked fluids. I was 1 qt. low on oil, so I put 1 qt. in. Today, I have been getting a clicking noise from the engine. You hear the worse when you speed up but you can hear it when you are in idle too. I took it to an auto mechanic and he said the noise is coming from the engine, all over. Said it was either a clogged oil screen or, bad barrings.

Since it happened while I was driving it and NOT starting it up, could it just be a clogged oil screen? If so, why didnt my light come on for low oil pressure?? Im confused and worried this is going to turn in to something major.

I drive a 2003 Buick Rendezvous with only 80K original miles! Help! Please!

Oil light on my eclipse?

Oil pressure warning light sending units go bad all the time. They usually have an oil leak where the metal and plastic are joined. The part is cheap and takes less than 1/2 hour to install. I would always check the motor oil level as a precaution.

Oil leak cause car to idle or stop.............................

I've recently discovered an oil leak, which resulted to me having VERY LOW olil. 6 days ago, before I knew I had a leak, my car stopped at a red light... BUT i was able to start it right back up. This happened 6 days ago, and i drove to the beach and back, and far out to far places and my car hasn't shut off again. My question is, could my car shut off because of low oil? When it shut off, I was unaware of it.. the engine shut off but my radio was working and my engine light DID NOT come on tho. I checked my car now and its REALLLY LOW ON OIL.. so i didnt drive it today. ANY IDEAS?

My 95 Lexus started to lose power and make noise oil light check engine light came on no smoke?

Well, I am sorry but it sounds like you may have killed your engine. If you need a new valve cover gasket, this means it is leaking oil. And if your oil light came on, this means that the pump must be sucking air, I doubt the pump went out already on a toyota. Go under the hood and, without engine running, check the oil level on the dipstick. If there is no oil in it, the odds are you blew your engine. Try letting it cool, fill it up with six quarts of oil, and restarting it. IF it still does the same thing, check while it is running what the oil pressure is on the gauge. If it is under 40 then your pump most likely will be bad. If the oil pressure is good, it sounds like you may have cracked a cylinder sleeve or something else internal; This will be a costly fix; engine rebuild or replace. Try also for the check engine light, without engine running, turn the key in th off position, then on position, then off, then on, and this will cause the check engine light to blink, count the number of digits in each code and then get back with us. Also, when this happend, did you happen to see what the engine temp was? Well, good luck, if you still need my help email me at mopar_4__life@hotmail.com

Why would my oil light still be on? I just had my oil changed and it has been reset.

The oil light does NOT measure how much oil there is in the engine…the idea that it measures the amount of oil is a very common misconception. It measures the oil PRESSURE…how efficiently the oil is being pushed around into the parts of the engine that need it.If you don’t have enough oil - then the light will certainly come on because there isn’t enough pressure. But if (for example) your oil pump is failing - then there may be insufficient pressure even though there is plenty of oil.So just because you had the oil changed - doesn’t mean that there isn’t a serious problem here.Since lack of oil pressure prevents oil from getting everywhere it’s needed - you probably have parts of your engine that are wearing out because they aren’t being properly lubricated. This is VERY damaging to your engine - so it’s essential that you get this fixed before you drive the car much further. Every mile you drive with that light on is doing long-term damage - and it’s the kind of damage that spells “New Engine” rather than “Quick fix”. Some car manufacturers (BMW is one of them) recommend getting your car towed to the dealership rather than you driving it there if the oil light comes on.To be fair - there are other possible reasons why the light might come on - maybe the oil pressure sensor is busted - maybe the wire broke or shorted or something - but because the engine may be seriously damaged if it really is the oil pump - then you MUST get this fixed ASAP.It costs maybe $500 to replace the oil pump ($100 parts, $400 labor) - but that’s a lot better than maybe $5000 to replace the entire engine a month or so from now.

Why does my oil light stay on even after the oil is changed?

it would probably have something to do with the oil sender unit. the oil pressure sender unit is defined and symptoms are as follows:An oil pressure sending unit controls either the oil pressure light or gauge in your dashboard. When it detects oil pressure in the vehicle, a switch trips and either the light shuts off, or the gauge becomes active. A faulty oil pressure sending unit can result in inaccurate oil pressure readings and warnings. So, it is important to recognize the signs of a sending unit that needs to be replaced. Here is a short list of symptoms that may mean you should get the oil pressure sending unit tested or replaced.1. Check Engine Oil Light Remains OnFirst of all, you should always check your engine oil when the warning light comes on, even if you’re sure it should be full. Oil could be leaking from your engine, which is a more immediate, potentially costly repair. If you have checked the level of your car's engine oil and it is full, but your car's engine oil light is still on, your sending unit may be indicating a false positive, in which case it will need to be replaced.2. Oil Pressure Reported as Extremely High or LowIf your car's dash is equipped with an oil pressure gauge, look for signs of extreme high or low oil pressure levels. It is not uncommon for some older vehicles to have low oil pressure when the car is first started. However, if the oil pressure gauge continues to show a low pressure reading even after the car engine is warm, and there are no other problems that you can tell, the culprit may be a defective oil pressure sending unit. The same would be applicable if the gauge reports very high oil pressure levels as soon as the car's engine is started.3. Oil Pressure Reporting ErraticallyThis is perhaps the most telltale sign of a malfunctioning sending unit. If your oil pressure gauge or engine oil warning light have very sporadic behavior—the gauge moving from low to high or high to low randomly or the light coming on and off frequently—you can be sure there’s a problem with the sending unit.Having faulty readings for your engine oil can be hazardous, since you’ll never know if/when your engine oil is truly low, so it is recommended that you repair it quickly. An oil pressure sending unit is not hard to replace, and for most car makes and models, it is inexpensive as well. In fact, replacing a sending a unit is something most DIYers can try for themselves.

Cause for oil light coming on on PT Cruiser...?

Have you checked your oil level? You may be low. If the oil level is fine, you either have a problem with oil pressure (bad oil pump or clogged screen) or a bad sending unit. Have a mechanic (not wally world or anyplace with quick, jiffy speedy, tune, or lube in the name) check the actual oil pressure using a gauge. If it is normal, have them replace the sending unit. If it is low using an accurate gauge, most likely the oil pan will have to be dropped to see if it is the pump or screen! If you have to drop the oil pan, it is a good idea to have the pump replaced even if the screen is clogged!

Oil light come come on in my vauxhall agila?

It sounds like your oil pump has gone bad. A bad oil pump can allow to much oil to flow into the engine causing a buildup within the engine. This means that the oil level will get lower and lower which causes the oil light to come on in the car.

I'd take the car to your local dealership and have them replace the oil pump. Dealerships have parts that work best with your vehicle and if you take it to a dealership you don't risk the chance of someone else working on it and possible messing something else up. Dealerships know what they are doing on your car because they were specially trained to work on your car. Dealerships also usually have the most up to date technology which means they can usually detect problems faster and can very accurately tell you what the problem is and how to fix it.

Hope this helps!!

I got an oil change and now the check engine light is back on. What are some reasons for that?

Is the check engine light flashing or on solid? If it’s on solid, it’s related to the emissions control equipment and it’s relatively minor and there’s no real chance of permanent damage. A flashing check engine light means there was a severe misfire and the car should only be driven minimally. In either case, an oil change has little or nothing to do with the check engine light being on. They’re effectively separate systems. The engine oil, when the engine isn’t running, sits at the bottom of the engine in a pan and is then circulated around the engine by means of a pump.Whoever is maintaining the car needs to do other diagnostics to figure out why the check engine light is on. Many auto parts stores will hook up a scanner to the diagnostic port under the dashboard and tell you what error codes the engine computer is reporting. From there you can get a rough idea of the problem.Without actually seeing the car, typical causes are the gas cap is either not on tightly enough or faulty or an oxygen sensor needs to be replaced.

83 Nighthawk oil light low grind sound, died on freeway. Wont start. Advice?

I recently bought a used 1983 Honda CB650 Nighthawk. Guy I bought it from last month said it was in great shape, had much maintenance done on it over years. I took it for an inspection at Hayasa motorbikes in Oakland, and Tyler said it was a great deal in great shape aside from needing a new back tire soon, and a new battery which we replaced.

The oil light had come on and off intermittently a few times over past couple weeks, so I checked oil level it was a little low but I filled it up. Strange that I saw no oil leaks spots where I left it parked ever.

Tonight on way home, the oil light came on and off a few times then suddenly engine sounded weird, almost a grinding sound the a loud and smoke from engine it died while riding.

I coasted to the side of freeway. Tried to start it up again, but it wont start. Lights turn on, but just click and no sound at all of engine even trying to turn over.

Any ideas what happened, and how to fix and cost? This video is of me trying to start it, and it only clicking.

Here is a video I took of it right after it died, of me trying to start it by pressing the ignition button. Its right on side of freeway so a bit loud background noise.
