There are generally two types of affidavit of supports: 1) Is an official form used to show income of the person who is sponsoring a person to immigrate into a country. For the United States search: Form I-864 2) Is a simple letter stating your name, the name person who you are sponsoring, your relationship to said person, both of your addresses. the reason for the sponsoring them and the amount of funds you are making available to them. This type of affidavit of support is usually used to declare your financial support for someone who wishes to travel abroad for a holiday or to study.
Insurance fraud for lying about fender bender?
Someone hit my car, just a little fender bender, some paint scratched off which was the only visible damage, they filed a claim and said I hit them. I wasn't in the car when it happened, and there were no witnesses, happened on private property. Someone told me he could get in trouble for insurance fraud for lying about it, I was wondering if that was true and what the consequences are for that? What if they believe him (he's older and I'm a new driver) and I get accused of lying?

Short answer: nothing. Plaintiff and defendants lie all the time. It’s up to the skilled attorney to do something with the lie. That is, expose it in a fashion that lets the jury know they lied, they cannot be trusted, and your fact/opposing witness can and should be trusted instead.This idea that people are going to be charged with perjury and go to jail is absurd. I dont think its perjury. That is in a court of law when you have been signed in by a judge. Notaries are not clerks of the court. What he did is lie on a loan application. That would be loan fraud. Depending on your state there are fines and penalties. In utah its a felony and carrys up to 25 years in prison and a 1 million dollar fine. But normally the lender would have to go after your husband. If he pays the money back the lender wont care. Usually they will call it do or foreclose. I really dont see the lender will care. Now the affadavit of borrower normally these forms are National forms that lenders used. Ours in Utah say the exact same thing. The notary will tell him since Utah isnt a community property state your spouse doesnt legally have to sign this. And they would be right. Your state may not require this signature. Its a standard form. We dont have the spouse sign it in Utah and its perfectly legal. If he is taking your equity and spending your equity when you know you are getting a divorce that would be decided by the divorce court. But you would have some nice ammunition on your side. For example:An affidavit is a sworn statement which is tendered and declared under oath by the deponent ie the swearer of the affidavit . The oath is conferred by the notary on the swearer of the same and the deponent is bound by the contents of the affidavit which he has declared when the said affidavit is attested by the notary.An agreement entered into by two or more parties to the same and duly attested by the notary is legally valid in favour or against the parties to the agreement , in respect and the extent of the terms and conditions enumerated and embodied in the said agreement .
