Mail App On Mac Powerbook G4 Wont Recive Mail

Reset Apple iBook G4?

Not sure what you did by "using the discs", so I'll ignore that.

Here is the simplest way to get a new admin account and put the old accounts in the "closet":

Your best option is to ask the owner of this computer to make an admin account for you. If you manage to make an account when the owner doesn't approve, you will get caught and it won't be good. Naughty, naughty.

On the other hand, if you found this computer on a park bench and you want to add your own, fresh admin account:

Restart holding ⌘ and the S key.

Type:
/sbin/mount -uw /

Press Return.

Type:
rm /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb
Press Return.

Type:
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Press Return.

Type:
reboot

Press Return.

This sets your computer back to a default NetInfo configuration, as it was when you first installed Mac OS X. When the computer is finished starting up, the Setup Assistant will appear. At that point, all previous user account home folders have been moved to a new folder called "Deleted Users", and an administrator account has already been created with the name "Administrator" and no password. If you don't go forward to personalize account (for example, you simply power off at the first screen of the setup), whomever uses the computer will have one admin account with no password, and will have any old user home folders in the "Deleted Users" folder.

If you want the computer to act like a new one, fresh out of the box, so to speak, but with any updates and third-party software still installed, you would need to do the steps above, but after the "rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" command...

Type:
rm -r /Users

Press Return.

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to shut off.

If your goal was to get totally back to square one, like a new computer (with all the wear and tear, of course), you would do an Erase and Install, and follow the steps needed to either setup an account or avoid setting up an account as explained above.

Macbook or Powerbook 17"?

I think the Powerbook is too old, I would say, get the Macbook with the 2 GHz processor and get yourself a removable harddrive with at least 500 Gigs worth of space, it's a bit expensive, but at least all your songs are organized in one place and you can use your laptop for other things, plus, there's more space to install applications on it.

Also, the removable harddrives work with USB, and Apple says anything with USB works on Mac OS X, so I would say this is your best bet. And make the harddrive an NTFS (Windows) format, it is supported by Windows and Mac. HFS (Mac) cannot be opened on a Windows pc, because Windows sucks!

My Mac is frozen, how do I save the PowerPoint I am working on?

If the program is frozen, there's really no way that you can save it now. Sometimes though, when you reopen the program, PowerPoint might be able to recover the file and will automatically open up and give you the option to save it then. This happens a lot when I'm using the Microsoft Office programs, so they must have some sort of recovery build into their program.

If it doesn't open up with that option though, you'll have to start over.

How can I make an arrow symbol on a Mac?

The quick method (in any operating system) is one or two hyphens and a greater-than or lesser-than symbol:->--><-Many applications (both Mac and Windows) have an Insert Symbol option that lets you select a Unicode symbol:←↑→↓(and many others)You can also copy and paste an arrow from a List of Unicode arrows. Some applications (both Mac and Windows) like Word have an auto replace function so that you can create your own codes that automatically convert to an arrow. I've added one to Word ---> = →.To have it work in some Apple apps (Notes, Messages and maybe others), try this method:In System Preferences, click Language & RegionClick Keyboard PreferencesClick TextClick the + buttonEnter the code of your choice (e.g. --->)Copy the Unicode character of choice from the link or examples above and paste itClose the System Preferences windowIf you really need to be able type an arrow in any application on the Mac try this method:In System Preferences, click Language & RegionClick Keyboard PreferencesClick Input SourcesClick the + buttonScroll to the bottom of the list and select OtherSelect Unicode Hex Input and click AddSelect Show Input menu in menu bar (if not already selected)Close the System Preferences windowTo enter UnicodeClick the flag icon in the menu bar*Select Unicode Hex InputHold down the option key while typing the Unicode Hex code:2190 = ←2192 = →2191 = ↑2193 = ↓* If you want to use the keyboard to change input methods instead of clicking on the flag icon.Select System Preferences → Language & Region →Shortcuts → Input SourcesSelect one or both checkboxes

Trying to connect a Canon powershot to a Mac and it's not recognizing?

Go to the blue apple in the upper left-hand corner and select "About This Mac". Click on the "More info" button. Look under the USB section, and if your camera shows up, you're in business because you have a connection. If not, either the USB port or the USB cable is damaged.

If you have a connection, open the Finder, go to Applications, and click on Image Capture. Click the "Image Capture" (next to the blue apple) and select Preferences. Under Camera, it will say something like, "When Image Capture detects a camera, open.....". More than likely, it is set to "do nothing". Here is where you want to select the program you want to use to detect & download pictures from your camera. iPhoto works just fine if you haven't installed the Canon Solution Disk already.

Hope that helps!

Laptop's right-click won't save pictures?

My laptop's right click button stopped saving pictures on select websites. It will still right click to open folders, and it will highlight a website link if I right click it, but if I'm trying to right click and save a picture, it will not work. I was working on a website last night, and out of curiosity, I went back to it, and it will still let me right click and save from it. DH said maybe the website blocked my ability to save, but even if I go to people personal blogs, it won't let me save. It's completely random. (Side note: I just misspelled a word while typing this, got the big red underline underneath it, went to right click it to fix it, and it wouldn't right click to bring up the correct spelling, either) SO RANDOM!

I am using an Compaq Presario CPQ50-110US laptop with Windows Vista

I am losing HD space on my MacBook Pro with Yosemite. How can I fix it?

Are you using TimeMachine? If Time Machine is on and no backup HD is present. Time Machine will make so called "Local Snapshots" on the local disk, which can account for the space you see disappearing. To see how much storage space local snapshots are using, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu, then click Storage. The space used by local snapshots is labeled Backups. You can stop Time Machine doing this by switching automatic backup to off. Read About Time Machine local snapshots to find out more Read How to Free Up Space Used By Time Machine’s Local Backups on Your Mac how you can delete local backups and or turn this feature totally off.

Issue with iBook G4 14" 933MHz.?

Okay so I bought an iBook G4 14" 933MHz laptop on craigslist for pretty cheap. I have had a iBook G3 and I like it much (despite its 11" screen) but I figured 130.00 for a later version will be fine. The person i buy it from states that the power cord needs to be replaced because his dog destroyed the original. That wasn't an issue because I can buy a replacement for like 3.00 on amazon. Having good faith in people I agree to buy it trusting that when I bought a new power cable it would work (stupid me). My replacement adapter arrived today, 65W normal charger. So I plug it in and the little white box starts making this ringing type sound and the computer won't turn on. I have checked that battery button on the bottom and no lights. It's not charging or running off the ac adapter.

I have googled issues with this model and I have found a few. One suggest that it could be some loose brackets on one of the chips, or it could be the DC-in chip that needs to be replaced. There is no green or yellow light when the cable is plugged in so I am just stumped.

I would like some suggestions, advice or experience with a similar issue or just how to fix it would be nice.
For People who insist on posting Microsoft Windows Comments:

Apple friendly advice only, So keep the "well your first problem is you bought a Mac" suggestions to yourself. You can go jerk off to Windows 7 and keep telling yourself it's better. When you know that they are slowly making Windows look like a Mac and stealing the OS layout. Oh and plus Snow Leopard and Lion have only been 29.00. Hasn't every version of windows started out over 200.00? yes. :)
