Those kids only got kidnapped because they were stupid enough to trust someone they barely know. I don't understand. My mom has never lost trust in me, but I don't know why she won't let me have a snapchat. I would make it private, and only add people who I personally know. I've asked her so many times, and I really want one. My friends have them, and they also tried convincing my mom that it was basically just photo texting with people, and you can choose to make your account private. Both have pros & cons. Private lets only the people you want follow you & not everyone can see your photos & people can wonder what photos you post so they follow you.
