Makeup-eyeshadow Help

What is the best brand of eyeshadow makeup?

You want eye shadows that have lots of pigments in them. Most of the time, this means purchasing more expensive brands, but if you find the right color, it's well worth it! I'm a huge fan of MAC because of the range of colors and textures. If you go into a MAC boutique or counter, the sales representatives there are extremely knowledgable. I've never had a bad makeup session there. Plus, the makeup lesson is free.

Another great brand is Stila. Jeanne Lobell, the creator or the brand, knows her stuff. She frequently has palettes out that have impeccable colors. Stila is more expensive than MAC, but the shades are softer and the textures are very nice too. Hope this helps!

Makeup (cosmetics): How can I get my eyeshadow to last several hours?

There are a number of ways that one can make any eyeshadow last:1. Use an eyeshadow primerThis is normally the first suggestion offered, even if it may be a tad expensive. The UD Primer Potion and Too Faced Primer are cult favorites but I use the e.l.f. Mineral Eyelid Primer and it makes my eye looks last a good 8-9 hours. The fact that it's less than 5USD helps the wallet too. :pThe new elf essential glitter primer at $2 is also pretty darn snazzy. 2. Use a makeup setting sprayI have used the MAC Studio Fix+ and elf Mineral Setting Spray with pretty good results. My makeup has lasted a good 7 hours and when used with a good quality face primer (like the Hourglass one) it has lasted for over 12 hours with no noticeable fading! 3. Using a Mixing MediumJust simply brushing a mixing medium like Inglot Duraline or elf Makeup Lock and Seal on your finished eyeshadow looks can lock in your makeup for a long time. But please make sure that use a very thin layer, work quickly and use a high quality flat eyeshadow brush or you are bound to mess up your eyemakeup. 4. The Long Haul- Use makeup remover to completely rid your eyelids of any oil- Dab a little translucent powder or compact to make sure that you have a completely oil free canvass to work with- Use a tiny bit of foundation to even out the skin tone and provide a base for the eyeshaodw to adhere to and get started with your eye makeup- After you are done with it all, seal in the look with a little more translucent powder. The key is to use a light hand or else everything will look too cake-y.

What color eyeshadow should i use? makeup tips?

Neutrals such as greys, browns, taupes look good on all skin tones. Stick with those especially if you are just learning. NYX has a neutral palette that is really nice.
Also you can use your blush and apply it over the eye as a simple natural looking eyeshadow, I do this all the time when it's hot and i just want a simple look. Don't use too much eyeshadow or too much glitter, it makes you look like you have no idea what you are doing, too young and it's inappropriate outside of a club.

This is my fav how to for applying eyeshadow, there are a few here but they are all simple and easy to follow. You can use whatever makeup and brushing you like with it http://www.esteelauder.com/looks_tips/5_...
I find videos annoying, I prefer a step by step list.

I personally do not use primer, I have oily acne prone skin and layering products just causes more acne.

Whenever I try to do a makeup look, my eyeshadow always blends in with all the colors & turns into one shade. How do I fix this?

First off, are you using any sort of eye primer or concealer on your eyelid? This can really help to ensure your eyeshadow sticks to your eyes and doesn’t move around anywhere. Be sure to apply a neutral shade that matches your skin tone after applying the primer because a primer alone can really hinder your blending if you don’t set it with a shadow.Next, the quality of your shadows is important. High quality (usually expensive) shadows offer much better pigmentation and blend so much more smoothly than shadows of poor quality. If your shadows are chalky or aren’t very pigmented, not only will they not offer much color but you will have to blend incessantly to get them to look good. This often leads to overblending, which makes your shadows look muddy. When blending, you want to keep a light hand. If you’re pressing too hard, the shadows may mix with each other. Blend only in a small concentrated area between shades to create that gradient effect between the colors rather than blending with broad strokes over the whole eye; this will help keep each color separated with a smooth transition between each one. Also, when applying a shadow, pack it onto the lid instead of sweeping it on so that that shade stays concentrated where you want it.Make sure your blending brush doesn’t have any old product on it so that you don’t accidentally blend an unwanted shadow somewhere, muddying up the look. Try out different blending brushes, preferably a fluffy one (try Morphe or Sigma) to see what works for you. Also: practice! Your skills will get better with time. Best of luck to you!

Why does my eye makeup look bad and messy?

Blending - You could be blending your eyeshadow incorrectly. A light color in the inner corner is a universally flattering look. You should blend in from the outer corner in small circles. This will create a nice, smoky effect.Color Combo - You might be using a color combo that clashes, or is unflattering. For my daily look, I use three nude colors: one very light and shimmery, one medium brown and shimmery, the other dark brown and matte. I apply the light color to my crease and inner corner, about halfway down the eye, and then put the medium color across the whole eye. Then, I apply the dark color on the outer corner about halfway in and blend inwards. You probably don’t need this tutorial, but my point is to keep it simple, use only three colors for your daily routine, and try to have them be the same color, just different shades. Of course, you can do more, but if your shadow looks messy this is probably the best bet.Mascara - Mascara puts your whole look together, and the way you apply it means everything. Don’t get caught up in trying to make them look long, make them more voluminous. I use Covergirl’s Lash Blast mascara, in the orange tube as it helps volume. You can get this in any Walgreens and similar store, and I highly recommend it. Most of you mascara should be applied at the base of your lashes, though you should still work on length, obviously.Eyeliner - With this, I don’t even bother most days. If I were you, I would stick to a smoky eye, something that doesn’t need eyeliner, and is sometimes worsened by it. If you want to include it in your daily routine, I suggest just doing the lash line, and no wing until you get good. Practice making winged eyeliner before you shower, so it will wash off soon after you do it, and it’s a good way to get an experience and style. That’s all I have for you. Hope this is helpful! If not, tell me your specific problem.

What does transition shade mean in makeup?

A transition shade is used for blending. So for example, say you have a light gray and black eyeshadows that you want to use. You put the black by the lashlines, and the light gray closer to the eyebrows. A good transitional shade to use would be a darker gray. It helps blending and creating a smooth gradient.

Which is more important, eyeshadow or mascara?

Like most people who answered this question, I would also say mascara. Mascara makes your eyelashes look long and voluminous. Also, you can use it without any other makeup product. On the other hand, eyeshadow sometimes doesn’t give you a natural look you may be wanting. Also, eyeshadow doesn’t really look good without mascara. As a bonus, mascara is easier to put on than eyeshadow, making it easier for beginners. What really matters though is your features. Different features look better with different products. If you have longer eyelashes, then, skip the mascara and go with eyeshadow. If you have natural eyeshadow, like my mom and I, skip eyeshadow and go with mascara. If you have both of these features then lucky you.~Silmi

Does brand matter with eyeshadow?

I've been debating whether to buy this cheap palette from amazon or buying something more expensive..I already use urban decay primer, so would it make a difference if I bought the five dollar 48 color palette or the professional eye shadow palette? In the end with a primer wouldn't both do the same job equally?
