What is the best way to make a difference in the lives of those around you?
This will be an anticlimactic answer. You watch people and see what they need. That’s it. If you can help, do it. Any opportunity is potential. Some folks wait for some dramatic or visible effort they can apply. Don’t. Don’t wait for gratitude. It may not come for years or it may not come at all. If you feel you’ve helped, it’s helped you. It may be something as unglamorous as giving a homeless person a hamburger from MacDonald’s. Or letting someone waiting to enter traffic into your lane. Or telling someone they look nice. Compliments are free. Most other stuff that makes a big difference is pretty cheap — particularly in this country. No appreciation? So what. You feel good.
I really want to make a difference in this world. I want to help others and save people. What kind of profession should I look into?
To make the difference in the world, you should be different but not on physical attributes but in other different ways,Like1) Selflessness: even if you do help someone don't be proud of yourself, be happy instead. And even if you don't get the credit for your work keep doing.2) patience: generally people don't appreciate any help, many times they even resisted against that. You won't find a great person whom people have not opposed initially.And after putting tremendous efforts if you couldn't save a single person don't be sad. Take the necessary experience and move on to save others3) always welcome troubles: to help people you have to sacrifice your personal and work life, and in mean time you don't even know what's coming next. Don't be demoralized and keep going with smile.4) never mourne: that never helps in anything. There are people dying for many reasons from natural disasters to human wars, to starvation to riots etcYou can sit and mourne for 10 mins for those who you couldn't sathough you can spend that time in making efforts to save those you can.If you think in such ways then there is no profession being in which you can't save people.You can't save people, you can only try.Remember one thing, "You cant be hero to others, if you are not hero of yourself."Apart from all this, you can help them to help them.there is some quote I read somewhere, it's not exact though " if I feed someone today, he will starve tomorrow, but if I educate him how to do fishing he will feed others for rest of his life"what I have learned from this is that you can't go to every person and help them, instead you help one abs transfer your thinking into him ,Now there are two of you, and you can help more and this continues till everything is fine (hypothetically), it's like asymptote. Dear Courtney, Just by asking this has already made a difference in my life. I see the love you have in your profile. You have a heart of love. It is people like you that grow up and think of others. What a wonderful gift. There is a song called "What the World Needs Now, is Love, Sweet Love." Love never fails. You have a gift to give to others that is vital. Did you know that sometimes babies when they are born die because they do not feel loved. Medical science calls it "failure to thrive." The Dr's have found that if someone will come in to the hospital and hold them and rock them they start feeling loved and they start growing...they live and not die. I would hope that nursing will be one of your considerations.You can be what they call a candy striper at the hospital too. You can volunteer in lots of programs for your age but I hope you do what your heart wants you to do. What would make you feel rewarded for your abilities. Ask your teacher or counselor at school and have her guide you. IT is not dumb at all...it is very intelligent and a good thing.. Tell your parents that I said you are a jewel!
