Making Home Theater As Sound Output

I need to build a good computer home theater surround sound what should i go with?

Bad idea.

When you buy a computer speaker set, or a set like the Cambridge system - it is not designed to let you mix and match with other gear.

Sometimes people have taken the speakers from their old $199 'home theater system' and hooked them up to a nice AV Receiver. Then a few months later they wonder why their receiver keeps going into PROTECT mode and eventually burns out. It is because the speakers are something like 3 ohms and this is close to a short-circuit and over-heats the output transistors on the receiver.

The amp that came in the 'bass cube' was deliberately designed to work with those strange speakers.

Does your sound card offer optical output?

If so - great. Just go to Amazon and search for "Onkyo Home Theater". You will find some box systems that are generic home theater systems that have lots of spare inputs and give you growth path. The beauty of these systems - you can replace just the sub or just the AV Receiver or just the speakers. These ARE designed to let you swap pieces out as time/interest or money allow.

Good Luck.

How do I connect a TV with no audio outputs at all to a home theater?

If you're using a set-top box such as a cable or satellite receiver then that may have an output like an SPDIF or you can use an HDMI output from the box to connect with a home theater. If the TV has a feature called “HDMI ARC” then the TV can send audio back down the HDMI to an attached home theater system. If your TV has Bluetooth you might be able to get stereo out of the TV to a home audio system. If you don't have any of these then you are out of luck, you've already said there is no other way to get audio out. Although I would check the TV doesn't have optical SPDIF, sometimes it can be a little hard to sport that connection if you don't know about it.

How does Dolby Home Theater improve the laptop speaker sound quality?

Dolby Home Theater is a “logo certification” for laptops that implies some level of sound quality that may be higher than is typical for that type of device. There are several variations on this approach, including “Dolby Audio” and “Dolby Audio Premium”.What this means is that the manufacturer designs their system to meet some standard of audio quality, then pays to license the Dolby name. The exact requirements for obtaining the license to use the logo are not published. Dolby claims that systems with this certification/logo are “tuned by Dolby engineers” which likely means that they review the specs and measurements of the manufacturer design and make suggested changes. There may be Dolby-branded equalization software included. The Dolby Home Theater logo in particular also implies an HDMI output and some software to convert 2-channel sources to surround sound for output via cable to an external surround sound receiver. It is likely that laptops with this logo have a higher-power audio amplifier and possibly bigger speakers than similar models without the logo, but this does not mean that there are not other laptops with equally good sound but without the logo. For instance, some HP Laptops are branded with Beats Audio certification which is essentially similar to the Dolby Audio licensing approach.

Does the quality of the sound produced by a home theater depend on the audio technology of the television?

It does not, to answer more accurately to your question I need you give me more info on your setup. The quality of the sound depends on the below major factor,Source of music or the movies ( cd/Vinyl record/Flac for music, Bluray audio for Movies HD audio)Speakers that you are usingAmplification ( A Good AV receiver or Pre processor with Power amplifier)Room Acoustics along with the placement of the speakers & subwoofers if its a multichannel setup)Audio technology depends on the file that is carrying the audio format & the processing capability of the processor or receiver that you are using.

Is 1500 Watts(Power Output - Total (RMS)) sound system good for a living room ?

You may just as well have asked, "is a sdnwwoawsawoe sound system good for a living room?" That's how meaningful the power rating is. First, Sony and "1500 watts" just don't go together in reality. They are known for making HTiB systems making huge power claims while delivering only a small percentage of the claimed power. Second, it doesn't matter that the power claim is bogus, because even if it were real it doesn't tell anyone anything.

I did a house party once in the 1980's with a portable cassette player that delivered all of 3 watts/ch. The portable player was connected to a set of Altec A7-800 "Voice of the Theatre" loudspeakers and the music was not deafening but plenty loud and of very good quality for the party. So, what exactly are you using for mains... "2 Front Speaker System - each 185W .(Sony)"? Are these by chance tiny plastic speakers or are they something more substantial? This is what determines if the system will be adequate. The larger the radiating surface area of a speaker cone the better the acoustic coupling to the air in the room. It requires less power to fill the room with sound.

If you could update your question with details about the speakers (and you can omit the power ratings because this is irrelevant useless information) then someone could give you an educated guess. Alternatively if you already own this system you could just crank it up and walk around the party area and make an executive decision. Yes this will work or... this just plain sucks! Only you know what sounds acceptable to you.

Btw, hope I wasn't too harsh concerning your power based description. Marketing has a way of taking something bad and making it sound like something good. High power ratings on loudspeakers is a perfect example. Speaker power ratings are a description of how power hungry the speakers are, not a description of the speakers ability to deliver sound. A single acoustic watt is pretty loud http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_power consequently marketing people don't want to talk about watts in relation to the speakers actual output. It's much more impressive to talk about the hundreds of electrical watts required to attain that single acoustic watt and do it implying that the electrical watts is the description of the output. It's a big deception and very few consumers are aware of it.

Can i hook up my PS2 to my stereo/home theater system, how?

depending on your home theater system...if it's the kind that has a video out, then you hook your ps2 completely to the reciever..yellow cable to the video in, red to red, white to white on the audio in side...and then run a video out to the tv...if its purely an audio system with no monitor hookups, then you will have to still run a cable over to your tv to get picture, but yes, you can get your sound through your home theater by simply running the red and white cables and hooking them to your 'audio in' red and white RCA hookups

How do i fix my subwoofer from rattling/making a farting sound?

My subwoofer seems to be farting/making a rattling sound when bass is at lower frequencies, around 80hz or lower. It wasnt doing it before and i did nothing to trigger it, it was able to output good sound at any frequency it ive heard so far without any rattling, but overnight it seems to have been damaged or something came loose, worked the day before but in the morning lower frquency sounds came out with no bass and just rattling sounds. I wasnt maxing it out or abusing it so this is why im confused, no matter how much i turn the overall sound down or the sub down it seems to be rattling at lower frequencies. It can still make higher frequency sounds fine, anything above 100hz etc. no matter how much i turn it up (reasonably, to the point where i wont go deaf). The easiest way to notice it is listening to "earl" by earl sweatshirt, the bass just rattles the sub now, as it didnt before.. I was wondering if there is any way to fix it or if anyone would know how to. Or is the driver just toast?
